I am glad to say that I did not part of exchange hacking nor losimg of money there. Maybe it is my luck but I never became a careless when it comes to the safetiness of my asset. I want to secure all coins I have and trusting in an exchange is a big NO for me. I hope I would not lose even a small amount eventhough I know that there are many hackers in this industry.

I am happy that I have never been a victim of hackers. Maybe they are not interested in my shitcoins))) In any case, I always adhere to the terms of use and protection against fishing, etc.

With the advent of cryptocurrency, the hackers have a new line of earnings. Many people want to have digital assets, but they neglect their cyber security. In today's world, people are accustomed to hoping for the cyber security of banking structures that are responsible for the safety of their money, but people do not understand that they themselves are responsible for digital assets.

Prior to being hacked,  yes my account in poloniex was hacked but it was my mistake since I did not use their security option of having 2fa.  With regards to OP's brother, since he is gathering fund from other people, he should have added more security to his trading account.  Gmail can be hacked but if your account in trading platform have 2fa, it is harder for the hacker to access your account in different exchanges.  There is also this text confirmation code where we can activate if we are not confident with 2fa.
I hope OP's brother has learned his lesson in that incident.

My account is also hacked, I see the login process is not from me. fortunately, assets are still safe, when I get email notifications to enter, I immediately enter and install 2FA. And until now it's still safe, in my opinion, 2FA is very important !!!

In addition to 2FA security with email, we should also regularly change email passwords and set a long password and have hard to remember characters. The ability to remember passwords is easily compromised.
Another good suggestion is to use a password manager, it is very difficult to come up with passwords that are very difficult to break for a hacker and that are easy to remember, so it is better to use a password manager that can create a password so long and complex that is going to be impossible for any hacker to break it and if you change them regularly then the protection of that password is even stronger.

Even if someone is using myetherwallet or a similar decentralized exchange they can still accidentally give their keys to hackers, just recently the DNS server of myetherwallet was hacked and people transfering ETH or tokens that put in their private keys to access their wallet were compromised.

For the best security use 2FA

Don't use priv keys anymore, use metamask or a hardware wallet to connect to myetherwallet

Use one email address for crypto exchanges, not a universal email for everything.

Dont post on social media with your real name and information about your crypto stuff

Bookmark sites so you dont get phised

Sorry about your friends loss, hope he can get passed it. good luck
I agree with your suggestion but unfortunately that there are some people who are negligent, and finally blame others. About 2 months ago one of my accounts on the trading platform was tried to hack by sending "forgotten password and requesting a password reset" the account was installed in 2fa, and I got 2x email about the unnatural login attempt. Besides that, the e-mail that I used for many years has been tried on someone's hack but failed because I installed security for different IP addresses, it won't be able to log in easily.
The point is before that happens we have to protect ourselves by learning from other people's experiences, unfortunately there are many who underestimate it and finally happen to them

I never been hacker on trading platform. Sometimes the exchange was hacked or had some problems but i not lost funds on trading platform. I use new password on every site i use and i use 2fa where is possible. Some users possible get hacked if they have a virus (spyware, keylogger) on their PC and they don't know that PC is virused. Not all viruses are detected by an antivirus (kaspersky for example can't detect all new version of viruses). Stay secure, and don't download any file you get on email, or from different sites. If file is small scan it on virus total before open it.
Even if an exchange gets hacked or experiences a DDOS attack, the chances of getting affected if you have extra security enabled like email login and 2FA most especially as that would make it a bit difficult for hackers to get into your account, but nothing is impossible anyway if there are some loopholes in some systems which could actually make all accounts vulnerable as the case may be. I have never been hacked though, but I have always made sure that I am making use of these additional securities and even at that, I am not trading more than I can afford to lose at the moment, and that is what actually gives me some confidence

Yes thanks for adding that, setting your passwords and changing it regularly like weekly or monthly should be a practice and you can also check if your email was leaked through https://haveibeenpwned.com/

I used to remember my passwords but now that I grown up and is being aware of the life through internet, we should be aware and careful with every information and emails that we have. I also advise remain from using browsers "remember username/password" feature.

My mistake not used 2fa. It is happen  3 years ago
Thanks for sharing! This is why in every trading platform that we use it has been advisable to use 2FA all of the time. I was also advised before of activating my 2FA so I can be safe from any hacks.

Just like today that there's a massive sell off for the emails and other data's somewhere on dark web, you really can't tell if your emails and accounts are safe. Having a 2FA this will give us tighter security and at least give hackers an headache to stop robbing our funds.
It is just that some people are usually always careless and they tend not to pay attention to the security of their account most of the time. The thing here is to always at least make sure you have your account pretty well secured.

Also, it is not really a full guarantee that some bullshit may not happen which is why it is also advisable to put what you can afford to see let go without it affecting your pocket hugely on an exchange, so that at least you are covered in some way by using those securities and knowing that however things turn out even if the fault tend to be from the exchange, there would really be no cause for alarm. One of the reasons I am making use of 3 different exchanges anyway.

This kind of events are not really that rare and we have seen many examples of this in the past, that is why if the trading platform that you are using allows you to use two factor authentication then you need to use it, because your coins are too valuable and any mistake that you make could cost you your life savings and if you have a lot of money that kind of loss is going to be very traumatic and you don't want to go through that.
It's a fact that this isn't rare anymore and most of the newbies are worried with their coins and isn't aware that this is really happening. But as long as they will learn from the experience of others and by listening to the advises that were given, they will never experience this.

I found it that 2FA is one of the best 2nd layer security and as much as possible include email auth as well for dual security.

Just yesterday my brother’s email was hacked for a period of 24 hours, during this period the hacker has already had access to all his trading accounts and transferred all his crypto assets worth over $5,000.

It was quite tragic, because the funds were not totally his, and it difficult to explain this scenario to his investors. From what i figured it was easy for the hacker to get away with such funds.

To avoid this kind of unfortunate incident, i implore crypto traders to make sure that there’s no loop holes in there trading accounts. I personally, trade on a hybrid trading platform (www.bbod.io) that runs a non-custodial smart contract wallet system where all account balances are held by a decentralized smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain. Centralized entities are too often hacked, our hybrid approach to decentralized safety combined with a centralized trading engine ensures the security of your funds whilst maintaining blazing fast transactions speeds.
I think your brother has not activated his 2FA and this can be easy for the hacker to transfer all his funds to other wallet. If you have big amounts you must secure first your account to avoid this type of problem. Never click on those suspicious links that may lead to phishing site.

To be honest, this has never happened with me as i take security of my sensitive data seriously.
Many such cases have come to discussion before and will keep happen unless you take care of your credentials seriously.
No matter how secure your email id is, you should always activate 2FA in your wallet
2FA is always been suggested to have be activated but people do keep neglecting until they do experience loss of coin and that's the time they do set out 2FA. People wont learn if they wont experience loss for some cases but there are still people who wont really let these things to happen in them.Even I, after all these years I haven't experience on getting hacked with exchangers or trading platforms.
That is the way many people think, they do not see the dangers and they do not take the right precautions because they feel that is never going to happen to them, and then when it does they lament the fact that they did not took as many precautions but by that time it is already too late, so as a bitcoin holder your first priority should be to protect your coins no matter what.
