Solana Migration Update 6
@Community,
The Helium Core Developers are continuing to clean up stray bugs and issues from the Solana Migration.
First, a few things to celebrate:
1. Hotspot activity is now being rewarded on-chain. Claims are still a bit buggy but we’ve found that this is due to RPC issues and not having enough SOL in your wallet account for transaction fees. That said, we’ve seen that several Hotspot owners have been able to successfully claim their IOT and MOBILE rewards. We’ll work on publishing a dashboard showing this activity but you can see the history of this account to see all the claims happening live!
https://explorer.solana.com/address/orc1TYY5L4B4ZWDEMayTqu99ikPM9bQo9fqzoaCPP5Q2. A new app version is going to Apple / Android app stores for review soon. These should resolve issues affecting a majority of people. There’s another release coming shortly after and we believe this release will also include some improvements for another smaller subset of issues.
3. We’ve had an amazing, enthusiastic, and patient community response to the migration. A huge thanks to everyone helping each other get their bearings post-migration. ❤️ If you’re finding this all overwhelming or having trouble with your wallet, please know that your tokens are safe as long as you keep your private key (secret 12 words, Ledger, or CLI wallet file) secure. There’s no need to migrate and use the Helium Wallet app immediately—your Hotspots, tokens, and Hotspot rewards will still be there at any point in the future.
Now back to your regular bug updates!
Please see the preceding updates for detailed information on issues covered and resolved. Please let us know in the
solana-migration-questions channel if you believe you have found a new bug or issue 🙏
The Core Developers are actively tracking major issues noted below with the deployment. As these are resolved, and new major issues are discovered, we will track them here.
These issues will be resolved with the 2.0.6 release of the Helium Wallet App:
Helium Wallet App unable to send MOBILE and IOT on Solana
Several known bugs for Helium Wallet App, including default Realms URL reading ‘devnet’ while on Mainnet, and MOBILE decimal points incorrect in transaction details
Helium Wallet App falsely reporting that it is connected to Solana Mainnet when it is on Solana Devnet and showing incorrect balances
Helium Wallet App shows claimable IOT and MOBILE balances without decimals
Issues covered in previous updates. These are still being monitored. Read on for more details:
5-year token lock position was initially incorrectly shown on Realms
Claiming IOT and MOBILE subDAO rewards
Extending lockup positions did not extend the landrush
Realms UI issues causing failed transactions
Issues that are resolved or will have no further updates. See preceding updates for resolution and detailed information:
Degraded performance from RPC provider due to NFT mint going on in the Solana ecosystem. (Resolved here)
Rate limiting from RPC provider causing Wallet app issues. (Resolved here)
Helium Wallet App not working with Ledger accounts (see Update 4)
All of these issues were unintentional and are being addressed.
MATERIAL UPDATE: Wallets unable to carry out complex transactions without more SOL
A Widget has been made available at:
https://docs.helium.com/helium-tokens/sol-token/ which is also linked in the in-app Browser screen. Users can swap a small amount of HNT for SOL to perform complex transactions. We’re looking at prioritizing a wallet app feature that may automatically prompt users when their SOL balance might be too low to carry out a transaction.
Additionally, new Hotspot owners need SOL in their accounts in order to start claiming rewards. Historically, the expectation is that most Hotspot owners just need to plug in that Hotspot and earn for providing coverage to the network. We think this UX is important for the network and will work with manufacturers to enable this kind of user experience. The Foundation has reached out to Hotspot Makers, and they will receive communications and support regarding this initiative.
5-year token lock position was initially incorrectly shown on Realms
For a brief period of time, a UI bug in Realms permitted users to erroneously stake HNT and lock up their positions for more than the maximum allowable four years, as stipulated in HIP-70. The number of affected wallets is less than a dozen. The UI bug has been fixed.
The core dev team will correct the affected positions by removing the excess lockup time and setting those positions to a four-year lockup. Further information will be coming soon in a dedicated post.
IOT and MOBILE subDAO rewards still not available to claim
Many users are still having trouble seeing and claiming IOT and MOBILE rewards. Some of this resulted from the RPC issues referenced in Update 5 and in this update (below) as well as bugs in the Helium Wallet app. The RPC issues have been resolved, and many of the bugs that affect claiming will be addressed in Helium Wallet App release 2.0.6. We are continuing to closely monitor the rewards claiming experience.
Realms UI issues causing failed transactions
Core devs have received reports that Realms is producing failed transactions. This is likely due to the RPC provider issue noted above which was impacting the entire ecosystem yesterday, but it can also happen when there is insufficient SOL in your wallet for staking and delegation transactions. Ensure you have enough SOL to perform Realms transactions (see Wallet SOL fees item above as well).
Rate limiting from RPC provider causing Wallet app issues.
An infrastructure provider for the Helium Wallet began enacting a rate limit at 21. April 2023 18:54, which caused the Helium Wallet to display account balances as zero. After investigating the cause, we found a way to remove the rate limit and restored service at 21. April 2023 19:06. We believe some future optimization of the Helium Wallet may be needed to prevent the rate limit from being enacted again and will work with the developers to optimize it.
Another update will be provided around 8 PM Pacific / 3 AM UTC. This is Samstag, 22. April 2023 05:00 in your device’s local time.

5-year token lock position was initially incorrectly shown on Realms
For a brief period of time, a UI bug in Realms permitted users to erroneously stake HNT and lock up their positions for more than the maximum allowable four years (see HIP 51 and HIP 76).
Fewer than a dozen wallets were affected by this bug. The UI bug has been fixed, and the core devs will correct the small number of affected positions by:
1. Removing the excess lockup time, and
2. Setting those positions to a four-year lockup.
Core Devs will perform this activity proactively without intervention from wallet holders. If you are one of the affected wallet holders, you will be able to see the finalized change and can verify the activity on Realms after the core devs have completed the work. We will follow up with more information when this is done.
If you are still encountering issues with Realms staking or delegation, please share questions in
solana-migration-questions .
Thank you, @Community !
Bin langsam echt gespannt, wie lange der Vorgang jetzt noch brauchen wird und ob wir den "alten" Helium Explorer am Ende noch wiedersehen!
