Someone recently asked me.... Why should I sign the petition if I don't use Spreadshirt as a service? Even if they accepted Bitcoin I still wouldn't use it.

He was my reply:

If you are pro-bitcoin and want bitcoin to succeed it is important for you to sign this petition even if you have no interest in using their service.

What you need to appreciate is getting Spreadshirt to accept Bitcoin is a little bit different from just getting an online retailer to sell goods for bitcoin.

It will also enable Spreadshirt to pay the 72,000+ worldwide artists that create and use their platform to sell designs in bitcoin which will increase bitcoin user adoption. This enables anyone to earn bitcoin by selling designs using their service, which is a big thumbs up in my book. The bitcoin eco-system will not grow & thrive if we remain dependent on paper money to purchase bitcoins. Getting paid in Bitcoin is just as instrumental as using it for purchases.

Spreadshirt provides anyone with the freedom to create custom items to express individuality with designs for personal use or to sell to others. I think enabling people to earn bitcoins for creating and selling designs on their platform is just as important as them accepting it a as a payment option.

Getting paid in bitcoin and using bitcoin as a medium of exchange to purchase goods is fundamental to the survival and core of the bitcoin eco-system. If we want bitcoin to prosper we need to encourage change and be vocal in promoting businesses to pay staff in bitcoin not just accept it as payment. If bitcoin is to succeed and stand on its own we need to sever all ties and remove dependence from fiat money.

If this petition is successful I hope it will inspire people to create new services that will help everyday people to earn bitcoin directly. Not only will Spreadshirt rivals Cafepress, Zazzle, Redbubble, Design By Humans, Threadless etc. have no option to follow their lead and accept bitcoin but people using their services will demand payment in bitcoin as well. Other online services and future new comers in the internet retailing arena will have no choice but to accept and adapt to bitcoins growing influence and dominance.

For bitcoin to succeed we need to increase bitcoin user adoption.

Now I just want you to think for a second. Spreadshirts service alone has 72,000+ sellers. This will introduce a lot more people to the world of bitcoin. Now add all the sellers on Cafepress, Zazzle, Redbubble, Design By Humans, Threadless in to the mix and you can see the huge potential here.

Many people would like to take a position in bitcoin but lack the Fiat to invest. Providing a global online platform for people to earn bitcoin is a double barrel shotgun to the banking cartel. People purchasing goods for bitcoin and sellers earning bitcoin without banker intervention was the foundation of bitcoins creation. So if you are passionate about bitcoin and believe in the fundamentals of what bitcoin represents. Please back this petition. We need to encourage more services and employers to pay out in bitcoin as it is the achilles heel of the cynics that protest bitcoins enslavement to paper money.

This is why I need you to get behind this petition. Regardless if you will use Spreadshirt services or not, it is a massive win for the Bitcoin community. So please sign the petition and help me increase awareness about the petition by sharing social media Facebook & Twitter to friends and family.  Smiley

Users of BitcoinTalk I need your help!

I have started a petition for Spreadshirt to accept Bitcoin.

Petition Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3lSvGIyyW4

Petiton Website: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/philip-rooke-ceo-spreadshirt-please-add-bitcoin

Facebook Fan Page: https://www.facebook.com/SpreadshirtToAcceptBitcoinPetition

Twitter: https://twitter.com/BTC4Spreadshirt

I would be extremely grateful if you could share the petition on your news feed to help me increase awareness to the Bitcoin community.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Getting Spreadshirt to add a Bitcoin payment option would be a big win for the Bitcoin community and put pressure on other online retailers to adapt to the requests of the consumer.

If you are unfamiliar with Spreadshirt they are an international online retailer operating in 17 countries with over 72,000 sellers. In 2013 Spreadshirt had sales of over $95M globally with orders from 200 countries.

The Bitcoin community recently got an open invitation from the Spreadshirt CEO Philip Rooke that if enough customers request Bitcoin that they will grant the request.

Quote
"I receive hundreds of requests a month from consumers and our ecommerce platform sellers wanting Amazon checkout and payment. We have yet to have one for Bitcoin. If Bitcoin is not mass market then it will be of little use to ecommerce retailers and platforms. The internet is a funny place however, where new ideas do catch on. My job therefore is to try and cover as many of our customers' needs as possible, so if enough people want to use either Bitcoin we will adapt and find ways of taking payments!" Philip Rooke InternetRetailing.net March 2014

If we are successful in completing the petition not only will it attract media attention and increase sentiment for Bitcoin. I'm sure their rivals Cafepress, Zazzle, Redbubble, Design By Humans, Threadless will all stand up and take note.

With the recent announcement from Amazon, that they will not be adding Bitcoin payment functionality. I hope I can rely on the Bitcoin communities support to help encourage more retailers to join the Bitcoin revolution to increase exposure and add to the Bitcoin eco-system.

I would be most grateful for your support.

As Satoshi Nakamoto would say "strength in numbers"  Smiley

Thank you for your time.

If you have any questions or ideas to help the cause please let me know.

Disclosure - I do not represent Spreadshirt. I am a solo activist trying to make a change. I am a user of Spreadshirts platform and believe implementing Bitcoin would benefit both Spreadshirt and the consumer. Instead of highlighting the problem, i'm trying to be the solution. Following the recent statement from the CEO I decided to make a stand and take action. I am passionate about Bitcoin and the fundamentals it represents. I believe consumers should have the choice and flexibility on how they choose to pay for goods. I hope the petition will resonate with the Bitcoin community and inspire others to take action and be the change they want to see.

I was not trying to sound like a dick. I just meant my question about whether or not Spreadshirt knew about the petition was a little premature once I realized the number of signatures isn't super high yet. I do hope you get there.

No problem dogechode, thanks for the support  Cool

I'm still waiting on official statement from Spreadshirt, I assume my request is going up the chain of command.

The video views are doing well and social media is starting to pick up. I just need to keep pushing and transfer this in to signatures on petition.

Bitcoin advocates by nature are passionate about their privacy so I think this maybe a reason why the signatures is meeting some resistance.

I know I have said this previously, but just in case people are reading this for the first time.

For those that like their privacy, fear not. A lot of online petition websites ask for personal details such as home address etc. which is big NO for us. We specifically used ipetition as it only requires a name and an email address. You have the option to NOT display your name publicly in list if privacy is a concern of yours. Also ipetition will NOT use your email for 3rd parties, only petition updates if you select option.

Please spare 10 seconds of your time and support the online petition.

Any word from spreadshirt yet? Are they aware of the petition?
I don't think they will be very impressed with 29 people willing to pay with bitcoin.

Ah. Yeah until it hits the hundreds or more likely thousands they are not going to care. I wasn't aware that this had still only reached 29 signatures.

Its up to 51 now. So it is growing. Please keep in mind that the video only came out today. I'm hoping it will do the rounds on Twitter etc.

I would really appreciate any support you can offer.  Thanks Smiley

Petition Update

I have informed the press team of Spreadshirt that I’m behind the petition and requested an official statement. No response yet unfortunately. I will update petition when and if they reply.

Also http://cointelegraph.com/post/someone_really_wants_spreadshirt_to_accept_bitcoin has featured petition.

Video is has done exceptionally well since posting, however has attracted a lot of negative comments towards Bitcoin.

I hope this will with transfer to more signatures.

As always I appreciate any help or support you can give & if you have not signed petition already please do so.

Good effort on the video, but the ladies should have said 'the people' or something. not just the bitcoin community.

I've been pushing for Bitcoin adoption with Sreadshirt for some time. I want to get the numbers up on petition before I push for an official response from Spreadshirt.

Thanks for the kind comment. Good point. Oh well, I will keep persevering and pushing forward. I'm trying my best. I really hope we can really bump the numbers up.

I sent off a few emails to a number of Bitcoin news outlets so hopefully will get some press there and social love on Facebook and Twitter from their articles.

Luckily getting rich when Bitcoin value rises and wanting it to be a world-currency for ideological reasons is not at all conflicting goals. I doubt you can have one without the other.

Fair and valid point RomertL. Whether your a hardcore bitcoin enthusiast backing the crypto-currency because you believe in its fundamentals and what it represents as a new medium of exchange. Or if your a just an investor trying to piggy backing on the trend to make a quick buck.

It is still beneficial and a win-win scenario in both situations to get more Merchants to accept Bitcoin.  Smiley

I don't want to go to far off track from the petiton and risk starting a divide in Bitcoin members in this thread. I just want the support from the Bitcoin community to help increase the adoption of Bitcoin payment options from more merchants to give customers more choice and flexibility on how they choose to pay for their goods.

Three years ago this could have worked. Right now nobody really cares, the only thing current bitcoiners care about is getting rich in USD as fast as they can. Sadly...

Great idea!
If there is activity we can do that for number of other important merchants.

Thanks CryptoPanda.

Absolutely, we have an open invitation from the CEO here so we need to come together as a community and make the most of this.

If we are successful, we can then move on to other merchants. I'm hoping once we pick up a few more signatures. I will push for coindesk, bitcoin magazine etc to give us coverage.

As I said earlier

I assure you if we push and are successful in completing the petition it will make a difference to Bitcoin. I'm sure their rivals Cafepress, Zazzle, Redbubble, Design By Humans, Threadless will all stand up and take note.

Thanks for your support.

Any help you can give I would be very grateful.
