I did not apply for merit source so far, but sometimes I see very good posts that deserve to get some merits, and it would be nice to merit them. I try save few merits for such posts, especially when it comes to members who have lower ranks. Because of that it is almost impossible to merit some very good or excellent posts from Legendary members.

I am in [TOP-200]The most generous users giving merits, and if Theymos need some new merit sources this is good place to look for them.

I support the applications. I'm also considering to apply one day, as last days (months) quite often I ran out of sMerit, and there are some people deserving to get merit, when I have the possibility I report them to a Merit source.
I know that with every application comes a drama so that's why i haven't done it yet. Anyway if there is a need for more sources, I'll trow my hat in the ring.
I have almost 100 days online in the forum for almost 2 years now so I can say that I've spent quite some time in the forum, here is my sent merit history (thanks to Vod and BPIP) with 564 merit sent Smiley
Again this is just in case more sources are needed, I would love to avoid all the drama attached to an application.

I encounter running out of Merit Source merits for around a quarter to a third of the days in a month, turning to my personal merits on those occasions (instead of running a v 2.0 of 250 profiles merited (by me) in 1 hour and 2 minutes – What’s got over me?). My awarding habits are in the ones for the most, to make them last, awarding two in more exceptional cases.

No indeed, I wouldn't do that neither, but sometimes its appropriate to higher merit some good members instead of higher meriting a newbie...
Of the older establish members we know they here to stay and to contribute to the place as well and circulate the gained merits they received ....

I second this view: merits should be sent to interesting posts, regardless of who wrote this and, theoretically, even if we disagree with the actual content of the posts. This in Theymos intentions, but I reckon this last bit is more difficult to do so.

Only bias I have:  I lean toward meriting less what I should members I know they hoard smerits.

I feel really bad as I always seem to have around 200 sMerits to award, In fact I've had a few difficulties recently, so I'm up to about 250 at the moment. Maybe I'm too strict in applying my rules for good posting behaviour.
Have you considered sending more per post? Theymos recommends you empty your source:
If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.
I don't really agree with this though: it wouldn't look good to to just dump 50 Merit on a Newbie with one post, but doubling or tripping the amount per post would make sense if that's what you need to empty your source.

I wouldn't recommend continuously sending out 50merit etc, but when you do, just do it to a member that will recent the gained merit with care, so for example a source has a holiday or no internet or busy RL stuff for X-amount of time, then he could send out some merit to just some other members that will be on the forum at his absent, I mostly not completely off from here, but I do think some guys could be.

I just think for the sources that easily empty their bag and absolutely don't mis use their merit its just right to increase their allocation.

I hope this thread is taking serious and we get some more to work with.

I've exhausted my merit pool this month, but that's because I'm starting to adopt a increased spending policy. I'll usually reward high amounts for exceptional posts more often now. Whereas before I wouldn't even think to spend 15, I've done that a few times already this month. Luckily, I get 19 merit back today!

So imo I think sources could use an increase of Smerits as well,

In as much as we request for an increase in smerit circulation through merit sources allocations it shouldn't be in excessive or uncontrollable form to avoid abuses.

Indeed it must be controlled for abuse, but double triple amounts could work very well IMO

Especially for the very active sources....

Also if their is thought of abuse or not good behavior from sources.... Then they could be released from there duty so why not give it a try I think it Will do good.

Maybe I'm too strict in applying my rules for good posting behaviour. It isn't very often that I open threads with all caps titles, and it is rare for me to read a reply that quotes the OP in full, or includes a quote pyramid, or a redundant image. I'm also trying to avoid meriting "meta" type posts, as I hope this forum will increase its Bitcoin and crypto, political and economic discussions.

I don't read what I consider to be low level posts. These are topics such as " Should Trump have a haircut", or the old repeated discussion such as " Is Bitcoin better than Gold". Maybe I'm getting too heavily involved in Brexit and the deep state, and I don't understand why the banking elite are trying to shove The US under a bus, maybe they just want a war so that they can lose all its toxic debt. If I can settle down somewhere on Sunday, then I'll have a 5 sMerit awarding day, and see if I can reduce my merit bag. It does take quite a bit of time to scan through a load of threads and posts, so please keep replies down to a reasonable length with good quality information in them. Formatting is a bad idea, as I usually ski over such posts.
I think I can help you emptying that bag.

So imo I think sources could use an increase of Smerits as well,

No doubt we do, I have come to understand it's time for an increase although when you speak about some sources allowing their allocations to go to waste I doubt that to be true but if it's then theymos should reduce their allocations and hand it over to others who can manage those allocations in distributing them properly.

About the management strategy you spoke off, I did employ that and notice it doesn't only limit number of post you can merit but limits post reading capacity as I subconsciously intend to concentrate more on quality topics to search for questions replys. For the past 15 days I have been relying on earned smerits.

In as much as we request for an increase in smerit circulation through merit sources allocations it shouldn't be in excessive or uncontrollable form to avoid abuses.

You can employ the services of other sources with fewer allocation by meriting their quality threads to enable them have more smerits to distribute instead of letting them go to waste.

So I think with everyone in here that my topic isn't really unreasonable.... and an increase to sources would be healthy right??

Yes, I think increasing the source allocation to those who are using it up, and are distributing it to good posts, should get a bit of an increase. Also, we could use a couple more good merit sources. Even with the increase, I do not suspect account farmers and spammers are going to get too much love.

Indeed and Alex_Sr and 1miau would be two good ones to start with....

And just for us existing sources I think we do whats expected and just could do better.....

As I said before and continue saying, I don't hoard merit and I don't let merit go to waste, as I'm always out and i'm a dailey forum user so I will keep distributing as best as I can

I ask that users post links to at least two posts that are “good” that they have written so I can review them to receive merit from me. I often have submissions with much more than 2 examples of merit deserving posts, however due to a lack of merit, I often give out 1-2 merit per submission to my thread, meaning I often will end up giving out less than one merit per post.

What you’re doing is a good idea & obviously really helpful for noobs to get noticed who sometimes possibly won’t even have their posts read due to their rank. I definitely think a source merit increase would be positive for some of us who need it.

I've added myself to the list too. I'm one spot above bones261, while I know he has a larger source amount. In January, mine was increased from 200 to 400 sMerit. This topic makes me realize once more that's a luxurious position to be in Smiley
At the increase, I expected I'd have to give more than 1 Merit per post to empty it, but I'm still giving just 1 most of the time. I do merit more posts though.
If I'm "slacking" for just a few days, there's a huge amount piling up that feels like my duty to quickly distribute. I've been working hard to get "my own stash" down, it peaked at 560 recently, and is now down to 477.

I often find myself deliberately rationing my sMerits so I have some to award in the coming days.
I do that on my mobile Tongue And I often post my own name from mobile to use Maggiordome to summon myself to Merit a post. I've considered applying my Mobile to be a source too, I think hilariousetc did that too.

So I think with everyone in here that my topic isn't really unreasonable.... and an increase to sources would be healthy right??

Wow, you exhaust your source merit and only give out one at a time? That is a great deal of reading and rewarding! I give out 2 at a time and with the smerit that I earn, I only tend to run out every once in a while. I'm not certain that I am capable of meriting 500+ individual posts per month. You are a true merit cycling legend.
BTW, if theymos is taking into consideration whether to up certain individual's source merit, I personally think that I am in the Goldilocks zone.

And not cause something is worthless to you it doesn't mean its worthless to someone else Roll Eyes
Wait, hold on, I think you misunderstood my post. I was not criticizing you or anyone else. I was just surprised that so many merit sources were expressing a desire to get more source merits. That is all.

Aaaah ow sorry if, but still if someone else feels so then this line still apply Smiley
