I noticed coinbase doesn't allow me buy altcoins.

What are some suggestions to buy these altcoins and what are your top #5 picks in terms of ICO/Altcoins to buy?
Once you have Bitcoin, you will have to make a Bitcoin withdrawal so that you can receive the coin in another wallet that's installed in another website (YoBit).

You can buy alt coins during ico where they are much cheaper and/or give bonuses but watch out to not join a scam.

You can check this tips https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-start-an-successful-ico-2131560 and compare with the ico of your choice.

And as others said you can buy them in exchanges and trading portals, also here i advise to read TOS of every service you might choose.

here are some trading beginner tips: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-start-trading-alt-coins-beginner-tips-2154746

Good Luck!

Why coinbase? In fact there are lots of reputable exchanges which do offer lots of altcoins that do exist on the market. Coinbase do only offer BTC,ETH,LTC - correct me if im wrong since this is the coins i have seen why i do visited the site.If you do really love to see lots of variety of altcoin then i would suggest poloniex bittrex, c-cex exchanges. For sure you would enjoy on selecting lots of coins.lol
In United States, some traders like to using Coinbase to trading than other large exchange as Poloniex or Bittrex. Maybe, the reason is after make good profits from the market, they can withdrawal to FIAT directly through Coinbase exchange.

General question...

Is there a way to more quickly get money into Bittrex without first buying on Coinbase and waiting 4-5 days for that to show up and transfering to Bittrex? One major annoyance with crpyto's is it seemingly takes almost a week until you can convert you FIAT into tradeable BTC to buy ALT's.

For example, I want to buy more NEO today. But I also do NOT want to sell any of my other existing ALT's in Bittrex to do so. I could fund Coinbase, but it will take at least 4 days until that money is ready to be moved into Bittrex, and by that time, who knows what the price of the ALT's will be....

I know some exchanges allow credit card deposits, but they have massive transaction fee's which make them not attractive at all imo...

My suggest buy from Bittrex or Poloniex these two exchange most popular to trade Altcoin.
For long term better buy BTC and LTC
For mid term and/or short term buy Ethereum and Waves.
And you can buy other Altcoin based on your feeling.

It's pretty easy if you have a basic understanding of how transactions work. Since you seemingly already used coinbase I'm assuming you already know how to buy bitcoin.
The first thing you have to do is sign up an account on a (popular) exchange. The benefit of utilizing an popular exchange is the fact that they have loads of volume, this means you will get prices near to market rate (and big orders get accepted more easily).
Personally I'd recommend Bittrex.
Once you've signed up, locate your deposit address and send your (fraction of a) bitcoin(s) over there. Now you should be able to purchase the desired altcoins.

To buy altcoins open accounts at various exchanges (or just one, if you are getting started) and get used to trading with small amounts. Once you get the hang of it, slowly increase, but never more than you would feel comfortable losing. Not that is feels comfortable losing, but I mean any amount that will not make you lose sleep at night. You should not be betting the farm, is what I am getting at.

So most people already told you how you can buy them from bittrex and polo. But the main question should be that what should you ask yourself before you go on an alt buying spree. I suggest, look into the team, whitepaper and community engagement before hopping into any of the alts, or you will get your hands burnt and money lost.

Just like most of others I would recommend Bittrex for the beginning. Interface is rather simple, min bets are low and there are lots of coins out there. There you buy alts for btc but what is rather inconvenient (and I don't know exchanges without these issues) that you have to sell alts to buy other one for btc first. I mean, there are no markets of alts themselves.. You can't buy NEO for doge. You have to sell doge for btc and then sell btc for NEO.

Do you already have Bitcoin available? If yes, head over to Poloniex or Bittrex exchange ... there are whole list of other exchanges to choose from but those two are my favorite.
Register an Account on either of them,  then transfer some Bitcoin from your current Wallet to the Exchange... and that's all! You can now start exchanging your Bitcoin with the list of available Altcoin on the Exchange.

Would advise to avoid DeepOnion at the moment. Still a pretty new Altcoin and currently not listed on either exchange. Happy Trading!

You may join this Telegram channel  http://t.me/free_crypto_signals for advice on coin to invest in. I don't own the group... I only joined them recently and liking them so far.
Make sure to ask around or do your own analysis/research before finally investing in their recommended coins.

You can check coinmarketcap to find out which exchange list the altcoin coin you want to buy. After registering with the exchange, transfer BTC to fund the account and buy the altcoins.

Coinbase is basically wallet based exchanger and they don't gave much of the scope for altcoins section. They are more into bitcoin than alts.
Oh! That's good no know - it is absolutely clear from the start

Yes i agree, also you can try to buy those altcoins on cryptopia, since you can buy a lot of altcoins in there and their fees are too low, anyway, it is a good exchanger but a little bit uggly, i prefer to use Poloniex, it is more easy to use, and very fast, only that it does not have too many altcoins like cryptopia, but it is the best exchanger at the moment.

Poloniex and Bittrex are good exchanges to trade some altcoins. I traded on polo for a long time, but then I switched to bittrex again, because poloniex had some much lags in the last couple of months. Bittrex is always stable and I trust them Smiley
