Buy your btc on localbitcoin then transfer to bitttrex or poloniex, then wait. Research for first 20 coin on coinmarket cap. Do make sure you pick coin regardless of your research that has volume for the last two years or so.
i agree with you. buy in local wallet then transfer to poloniex or bittrex its easy way because more safety than buy in coinbase any risk in there
poloniex is better than bittrex in my opinion, because bittrex when wede there is a limit

Most of the cryptocurrency exchanges use BTC as the base currency. One good exchange is Binance. It is better to do your own research for investment. Good luck.

Do you already have Bitcoin available? If yes, head over to Poloniex or Bittrex exchange ... there are whole list of other exchanges to choose from but those two are my favorite.
Register an Account on either of them,  then transfer some Bitcoin from your current Wallet to the Exchange... and that's all! You can now start exchanging your Bitcoin with the list of available Altcoin on the Exchange.

Would advise to avoid DeepOnion at the moment. Still a pretty new Altcoin and currently not listed on either exchange. Happy Trading!

All altcoins are sold on stock exchanges. To find out where any currency you can buy, use the services-reviews, or install on your phone application Blockfolio. It is very convenient for tracking exchange rates, I have been using it for more than six months.

I also use this app for a long time and I am very happy. Blocking with current and fast service with access to information You continue to observe the stock market which will help increase the chances of auctions. I heartily recommend!

It is very simple to get started:
- Buy BTC on Coinbase
- Open exchange account (there are several good exchanges)
- Send BTC to your exchange account
- Buy the altcoins you like  Smiley

I noticed coinbase doesn't allow me buy altcoins.

What are some suggestions to buy these altcoins and what are your top #5 picks in terms of ICO/Altcoins to buy?

Coinbase allows you to purchase only 2 altcoins.  Ethereum and Litecoin.  For all other altcoins, you will need to purchase them off of an exchange like Bittrex or Poloniex.  Just purchase some bitcoins off of Coinbase and send them to the exchange that has the altcoins you would like to purchase.

To  buy alternative currencies you will need something that can be traded or barterd.  Easiest is just to use fiat.

Open account at Coinbase.  Transfer funds via ACH transfer.  While you wait for your funds to be credited to your account go to Bittrex and sign up for an account.  After a week or so your funds will be ready at Coinbase.  Transfer those funds to GDAX.  GDAX is Coinbases exchange.  Buy Litecoin.  You now have bought an atl coin.  It you want more of a selction send your litecoin to Bittrex where you can exchange it for many more.

You should use an exchange to buy alts. The number one suggestion would be Poloniex, but there is also Bittrex. There are others too but these two are the most reliable options I think.
Create an account on any of these, send some funds to the wallet there(bitcoin), and then you'll be able to buy any listed altcoin from there with your bitcoin.

Coinbase is basically wallet based exchanger and they don't gave much of the scope for altcoins section. They are more into bitcoin than alts.

Anyway you can always choose to buy altcoins from the popular exchanger sites. Here you will have to send the bitcoin first and then trade it with altcoins that you want to buy.

If bitcoin is not the option for you then you can just buy them with direct payments avaible on the few of the sites. For me bittrex, livecoin and hitbtc are the best options to buy my preferred coins.

1) Create account on an exchange that support your Fiat (eg. Kraken for USD,EUR...)
2) Buy Bitcoin
3) Send Bitcoin to an exchange that has your desired altcoin (eg. Bittrex)
4) Buy altcoin
5) send to your wallet (you don't wanna leave much on exchanges)

If you don't know where does you coin trade check a crypto index site like CoinCodex to find out, they have the exchanges ordered by volume.

Coinbase lets you buy Ethereum and Litecoin, they too are altcoins, you can just buy bitcoins and trade them with altcoins in other exchanges.

You can buy Altcoins in exchanges such as Poloniex, Bittrex, Novaexchange and etc. However these exchanges do not accept fiat (example: USD, EUR). You have to use BTC or ETH to buy the altcoins.

After buying BTC or ETH in coinbase, you have to send BTC or ETH to the deposit address. Once the BTC or ETH is received, you can then buy the altcoins.

My top 5 picks for altcoins are ETH, NEO, Deeponion, OMG and XMR.

Bittrex and Poloniex are two popular exchanges that people use to trade altcoins. Make sure you do plenty of research on whatever you're going to invest in, because there are some quite sophisticated scams out there and the exchanges don't protect you against that.
