Hello everyone, I'm new to Bitcoin and came across this forum in my searches. I thought it would be a good idea to register here and see what this is all about.

I run a grow store outside of Calgary and am interested in Bitcoin for my shop. I also just learned about alternates to Bitcoin. Like penny stocks. I will probably invest in those too. Anyways, my journey begins...

Hi there, we run a bitcoin store in Calgary. I can help you get set up to accept bitcoin in your business and help you learn about mining or any other areas of bitcoin you might be interested in.

Hi and welcome fellow peer!
I highlighted some of your quote because I just wanted to make something clear that is often confused. Bitcoin was NOT intended as an investment or financial instrument and does not perform like one. It could not be further from a stock. A LOT of people "invest" in bitcoin and end up very disappointed. Yo could buy some and have the value increase. Or it may drop 50% in a week.

If you really want to try bitcoin you may consider using bitcoin as a payment network. That is what it is, and you will better understand why it is important when you buy things in the fastest, cheapest, and most secure way possible. Unlike your other money it will work anywhere and you can trade with anyone.

P.S. Penny stocks are worth pennies for a reason. They are fun to day trade, but it's about as good a bet as the casino.

As has been stated, be careful when you visit the alternatives to BTC.  It is a cesspool of FUD, scams and overall just bad people.  There is some good over there too, but at times it can be very difficult to weed through.  With FUD it's usually because investors are trying to do whatever they can to insight a panic sell-off so they can get cheap coins, or...... they are rivals of that coin, and it posses a threat to their investment.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I will heed your warnings.

I'm thinking about buying some asics but am unsure about it. It seems like the profits are very low. Why would people still be mining if their electrical costs are more than their profit from mining? Strange..

asics was profitable 2 yers ago. now it is waste of money, electricity, your time and energy. it is better to buy BTC for money that you want to spent on asics and wait. there is a big chance that you will buy more btc than asic (bought on that price) can creare.

There is a huge but messy altcoin section here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0. You can learn a lot about altcoins there.
Altcoin prices have a much wilder fluctuation, and so investing in altcoins could bring you big profit or, if you are unlucky, big loss.

Most of the so called alternatives to bitcoins are pump and dump schemes. Worse than penny stocks.

Welcome to the forum  Cheesy
When you implement Bitcoin payments in your shop then remember to post your shop here >>> http://coinmap.org/
Coinmap will be a good free advertising for you and you'll see many people enter in your shop just because they have seen you on Coinmap  Wink

Try to read the stickies in this forum and also don't invest in new bitcoin alternatives as they may be pump and dump coin which will make you lose.

Hello :-)

Nice to meet you!  This forum is for sure the best online place to talk about Bitcoin with other Bitcoiners :-)
So I am sure you will spent great time in here.

I suggest from my experience to keep more to Bitcoin than to other alternative coins because Bitcoin will not die :-) other coins might vanish .. :-) there are only few alt coins worth your time and money so be careful and support Bitcoin!  :-)

Good luck with integration of your shop with Bitcoin payments - smart move if you want to sell some stuff around the forum :-)

Before making any decisions you can always ask around for an opinion of experienced people, we have a lot of them around.
Remember that there are many scammers in the world so just be careful while making businesses and think twice before doing something :-)

See you around!

Kind regards.

just make sure if you do decide do anything on this site, look into getting a escrow. Check the rep also which shows the green + symbols.

And make sure you are talking to the correct person not an imposter.
