@Tranz, May I suggest an enhancement in the new wallet to where it will show the total dollar amount of your total balance. Maybe use crypsty's price or coinmarketcap.com to determine the value.

My first response was to be no. However considering resent IRS guidelines, it could be very useful to have a FIAT/COIN cost in the wallet, current and at time of mining.  Won't be anytime soon, maybe HBN 2.0 Smiley

When I PoS mine PHS, I use Alchemist to get this information. Its a pretty nice tool but I believe its closed source. Perhaps something similar can be put together for hobonickels to hold us over in the mean time?

It seems that coinchoose.com is on the wrong chain too (or likely takes data form the wrong block explorer), displaying wrong profitability atm.

May the force bit with you.
If you haven't upgraded to version 1.3+ you may want to. There are some old clients on 1.2, and they have been forked off. I have issued alerts to them.

You may want to hold transfers to Cryptsy's as they are on the old version.

If you are on 1.3+ and match what you see on coinwarz.com ( http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency/coins/hobonickels ) or our abe explorers ( http://hbn.blockx.info/get/chain/HoboNickels ) you are fine.

I will give the coast clear to Crypty's when I see it is back on the right track.

can someone please update the mac wallet once it is closed by the red circle not quitting the wallet it won't come up unless you quit it and restart it

it should have a show/hide when you right click on the wallet icon to bring it up like the rest of the mac wallets.

Thanks

ryan. I will have a look as soon as I can. I think unick was trying to get it compiled for OSX, does anyone have a good set of instructions?

someone might want to get the word out there about HBN? I dont know what unique properties it has besides the ones I posted there already. I think a whitelist for people who are "new" to the game might be a nice thing not to get burned on first contact with cryptos.

i wrote there to add HBN

Cold storage of your private / public key combination in principle protects you against hackers but you need to be extra careful re

a) backing up your keys (if you only have it stored on a paper wallet and you lose it you lose all your coins)

b) physical theft of you paper wallet

In addition to encrypted wallet.dat files & cold storage paper wallets I have my keys backed up in the cloud in OpenPGP encrypted files stored in TrueCrypt containers (ie dual encryption protection).

So basically,

1.) It allows you to store funds outside of a software wallet, so no one can every actually steal them

2.) It allows you to hand someone a piece of paper (or dispense it from an ATM, etc) so even without having a wallet they can acquire coins

anything else?

Can someone explain why people use paper wallets? Is it just purely for security and to give people the ability to trade with those who don't have the appropriate software?

yes

Just finish adapting bitaddress.org's script on the blockchain's website. So you can generate paper wallets, bulk wallets and brain wallets.

Also made a couple of designs for the paper wallets.

Normal wallet

Encrypted wallet

hope you guys like them, feedback is welcome  Cheesy

I tested a couple of addresses with send/receive and everything worked great! Let me know if something is not working as intended.

Enjoy!

Yes there is very little chance that HBN will be changed to another algo. It would be a pretty hard, hard fork to pull off.

It will be interesting to see how various implementations of POS holds up against the possibility of 51% when we consider just 3 of these "Titans" will produce more hash rate than the current HBN network.

This is actually one of the best parts about HBN, for a successful 51% attack you would need at least 51% of PoW as well as a large share of the PoS stake weight. This means that the attacker would be attacking their own holdings, how would it be profitable to attack a coin that you have a large holding in?  Makes it much more unlikely to happen, especially when there are lots of smaller blocks competing for stake.

Barring a force majeure-equivalent event, I emphatically support keeping Hobonickels as is. sCrypt ASICs or rising PoS difficulty are not such events. Generally, consistency is vital to the long-term health of any cryptocurrency.

Keep up the good work, Tranz. Your wallet development is outstanding.

I have no doubt great things await they who use and hodl hobonickels.  Wink

Yes agreed, we are still in early adopter/evolution stages at the moment and these coins are going to get much harder to come by via POW and sooner than expected this year.
I say that with a slight smile as I have a wallet with my first HBN solo POW block dated 24-07-2013 - wish I could say I've mined continuously but ...

I suppose we will also need to account for the inevitable migration of GPUs away from the LTC and other currently profitable straight scrypt coins also beefing up the nethash on other coin.

It will be interesting to see how various implementations of POS holds up against the possibility of 51% when we consider just 3 of these "Titans" will produce more hash rate than the current HBN network.

Anyways I'm just wondering out loud because I know I need to know more.

*edit And as I type the nethash of HBN goes to 374 .. so call it a round 4 "Titans"

lol :p yes it will be nice to see the impact of all those Titan like miners on the network this year. it's completely crazy to say that just 4 titan can push more power thant the entire HBN network... Agreed it's not a big network, but still impressive :p

I am surely holding on to my HBN and glad to be in before all hell break lose  Wink
