Halving the stake reward maybe? I know it's been mentioned before.

I figured it out.  Just typed in threshold limits on command line, super easy.

On another note the blockchain doesn't seem to be synchronizing.  I'm doing it over wifi, not sure if that's an issue.  Seems to be stuck at 3 years 310 days.  How long should it take?  AM I doing something wrong?

Try downloading and using a zipped blockchain. It won't be three years behind, it will probably be a few months behind instead.

http://108.61.216.160/cryptochainer.chains/chains/HoboNickels_blockchain.zip

After I download it, do I need to do anything specific with it?  Thanks!

Unzip it and put the contents of the unzipped folder in the HoboNickels folder inside appdata\Roaming, Appdata is a folder that's hidden by default in windows. To see it you have to go to appearance and personalisation in the windows settings,  select folder options, then select "show hidden files, folder or drives".

You can find your HoboNickels folder in appdata at

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\HoboNickels

where is your windows username.

Thank you Mike.  I'm really getting frustrated.  After downloading your link and inserting zip file into appdata/roaming it won't unzip...says zip file is invalid.  So right now I can't synchronize the blockchain via wallet and cant open downloaded zip file.  Grrrr.  Need help.  Thank you.

Do you have peers? use the peer connections from crytopia coin info page and in the debug window console type

Change S4C to 100% - I think I will likely do 75 or 90% for the first change. Then if that goes well change to 100%.  But I can bump it, yes.
Lower CPU  - This will be one of the first one. Multiple changes for this.
Lower Memory - Most important but also most difficult. Will take much time, but will begin to investigate this and see what can be done.   Need help from the crowd on this one. What POS coins are out there that have the least memory?  New coins don't count. Have to have few years under their belt.

What else?

HYP does a pretty good job for what you're looking for memory and cpu as well as resolves the S4C issue. I also mention some general issues most crypto wallets have in the last few pages of the thread. Have a look: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=678849.6360

Yes I know HYP well. Again look at # of blocks vs amt of memory used. The ratio is still close.

I authored S4C originally I know what it can and can't do.  I am just not sure what it should do yet..

This is already part of the code. It simply require active wallets staking. As the staking difficulty goes up the reward goes down.  We could tighten it, but a hard fork is my last thing I want to do.

GenStake is another PoS/PoW coin that runs much less CPU and memory than HBN.  2GiveCoin runs with very little resources but is much differently structured kind of PoS/PoW coin.  Hyperstake and Truckcoin are also lower in memory and CPU use but do not use PoW. (Truckcoin runs higher on CPU use) The GreenCoin daemon runs with very little CPU and memory use but is also PoS only.

CPU will be solved, so take that out of the equation.

But with memory, you have to compare apples to apples. We are at block 5.2 million. What are those coins at? When HBN was only at block 1 mill, it used a reasonable 300megs. More blocks, more memory.

Run a spread sheet on Memory vs number of blocks, and tell me which is the lowest.  We can go from there.

Build an exchange into the wallet to use with various coins.

A person downloads the relevant chains then the wallet has a tab where you can offer x number hbn for y number other coin, offer good for 20 blocks etc. It would let a person learn arbitrage with less risk. Arbitrage at a low level is going to start becoming important as coins gain more merchants etc.

-

Long term, make a blockchain update something like Pascalcoin that consolidates the chain every few years into a lockbox that has all the info but is smaller. So maybe every jan 1st the chain is reduced to a list of all balances plus a hash of that list. Maybe have only certain nodes download the whole chain, but newbies can download just a few mb.

I have considered this. It is possible but the amount of work involved would be huge. Also the amount of resources needed to run it on your computer would also be huge.  If I had a team of 5 40 hour a week developers, it would still take 6 to 12 months easy.

So what I am saying is probably not.   Wink

However greencoin has problems of its own which i need to take care of when i get time. Its based on the old blackcoin. Likely going to be upgraded to the new blackcoin base when i have some time. The main issue with it is that peer discovery isnt working (may be due to faulty seed nodes) and the blockchain sync stalls at certain blocks

I just bought a bunch.  I had been eyeballing this coin for awhile.  Happy I finally pulled the trigger.

On another note, if I have say 100k lot of coins, random number of course, and I want to generate the maximum number of coins every 10 days do I need to break up the coins into smaller lots of say 2 or 3k within 20 or 30 addresses.  Since the max pos reward, based on what I've read is 250 is that what I need to do.  Or can I leave all 100k coins into 1 address and as long as I leave that 1 address staking continously 24/7 will that work just as well?

on windows

HoboNickels-qt.exe -splitthreshold=200 -combinethreshold=200

Thank you for the answer.  Where do I go within my wallet to set up that.  I don't know what a combine threshold and split threshold are either.  Sorry I could use the help.

Dusted off (literally) and fired up the Dev Box, its running again! I need to do a bit of maintenance as last time it kept crashing on me. I think it is the CPU. Anyone know what the fastest FM2 (not FM2+) CPU you can still get now-a-days?

Is this the best?  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CPLGEFM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

After a quick search, that's the best I see out there for that socket unless you go to to ebay (which I would recommend.)

Personally, I'd just get a newer motherboard + cpu for that kind of money.

Agree. (I guess you  mean not recommend ebay)  Newer platform would be preferable.

How about H210 bundle, with i3 ?  What other requirements are there ?

Good catch.

Ya, no ebay.  Requirements are speed to build. I just want to slap in a new CPU. I know the socket and the MB is older. But don't have to mess with all that.  At least not today.
