I don't think forum needs new  separate Investment discussion section and current sections in Economy board could be used for this, but I think that we need some major changes and restructuring with removing some sections and adding some new ones.
I am not sure that bullrun is the best time to make this changes Smiley

I think we have enough boards and restructuring isn't the need the of the hour. Secondly i will never like the board with the name of "Investments" as it will be filled mostly with the ponzi schemes. I am afraid of investments ever since i am in crypto as most of them are not real.  Angry

To boldly go where no rabbit has gone before...
Personally i would like nothing more than a place where people could post investment opportunities they trully believe in.
However, how to distinguish real ones from fake and scammy ones?

I think it'll look like something that encourages ponzis to be created or shared and dupe newbies that are unsuspecting (eg: btc 2xed in a few months, perhaps there was a hack on the network or something...)

Most of the stuff related to service investments is posted in service discussion which is probably appropriate and enough for now.
Yes it will encourage, I think that creating it will only make their breeding grounds harder to find because they can be doing the schemes at that proposed discussion board or the other. I think that Service Discussion is enough, the only time that we should consider having that discussion board is when all the scams are eradicated which will never happen.

Farewell o_e_l_e_o
There are new boards in the local sections requested by the moderators of these sections (French (~ end 2018), Russian and maybe German), but also by users (for the Croatian section).
So no big changes Smiley.
Thank you.

I published my year-end report and there are a bit more details. I don't know names of those new child-boards but data scrapers might know it.
  • Total boards: There are 3 times the number for total boards changed in 2020
    • 254 to 255: 15 Sep 2020
    • 255 to 257: 25 Nov 2020
    • 257 to 258: 04 Dec 2020
    • Which are those new child-boards?

I find your lack of faith in Bitcoin disturbing.
The total board changes from 254 to 255 then 258 since late of 2020.
Which are the four new boards/ subboards?

dogs are cute.
Oh definitely, I would love a board like that. Even if I don't post, I get to read people's analysis, theories, coNSPIRACIREs, ya know ya know. It could be a cute lil wholesome board where traders could ask for genuine advice, and help fellow traders out. Trading discussion is a shitshow of a board, we definitely need a better one. Make it like, limited only to full members and above, to keep the spam out.

idk man it could be pretty cool to see some interesting activity since bitcoin is blowing up like the Capitol building. Sudden, but not surprised.

also PLUS FUCKING ONE to remove Investor-based games board.

i agree with you. several times i saw some altcoins and searched on the internet and the information was scarce, but if we had a section where we talk about investments it would be a good thing, because people could talk about the altcoins they are investing and the reasons. In the altcoins section we only discussed altcoins in general, I don't see anyone talking about when they invested and how much profit they have.

Trading Discussion does everything that an "Investment Discussion" section could do

Yep, there's Trading Discussion, there's Speculation too, and imho both fit into "investment" (and spam too).
Also while we keep telling people to not invest based on strangers' advises, we make a subforum specifically for such advises?! Do you really expect to see there different people than those from Speculation/Trading discussion?!

Trading Discussion does everything that an "Investment Discussion" section could do, I would think--plus I could probably come up with about five or so ideas for sub-sections that would be more useful.  In fact, members have suggested quite a few new child boards that I've supported, but Theymos never created any of them.  So unfortunately for you OP, he isn't likely to create one for your idea here.  I'm not saying it's a horrible idea, just that Theymos isn't inclined to keep expanding sections unless it's for the local boards.

I am actually interested in reading such discussion all around the internet and in bitcointalk economics section occupied such kind of things but mostly generic than any actual discussion so even if we create a new child board for investment strategy discussion still it may leads to spam but good to have if it is possible to put heavy moderation like what we have in mining section. Grin
Yeah, but everything that could or would be discussed in an "Investment Discussion" is/will be discussed in other sections like Trading Discussion (as OP mentioned) and probably Economics too.  I think such a section would be superfluous even if it didn't turn into a spam pit.

Not a place where one shill their tokens but rather where you can discuss strategies, what factors made your investment work, what did not, etc.

The closest thing we have now regarding this is Trading discussion, but these two things differ a lot.

If you want to a place not for shilling but for discussing investments in tokens, your topic belongs in one of the altcoin boards.

For non-Bitcoin investments there's Off-topic but Serious Discussion and Ivory Tower and often Economics should also fit.

For Bitcoin investments if Trading Discussion doesn't feel like the right board for your specific topic, then Economics, Speculation, or maybe the top-level Marketplace board or the Securities board would be a better fit.

Good idea but maybe not really needed so it will be difficult for theymos to grant it.

In my opinion, trading discussion are the most appropriate place to be used to discuss everything related to investing. I just think that someone should make one of the special threads there which is related to investment strategy and also strictly moderated by the OP so that no spammers enter. It reminds me of a well-known thread for traders who have remained active to date in the speculation section and that is Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion

Can we use this as an argument to get rid of the Investor-based games board?

Compare the traffic. Consider the intent of the board.

Sorted by thread creation dates in forum time (UTC), here is the most recent thread: January 03, 2021, 10:51:28 PM

And here is the tenth thread: December 13, 2020, 12:26:13 PM
And the last thread of the first page: June 27, 2020, 09:36:12 AM

Is that seriously going to be a moderation problem for the root Gambling board? In comparison, its last thread of the first page was posted November 26, 2020, 07:20:50 AM, but the general traffic of Gambling is so high that you won't find the thread until you're 5 pages deep in the regular searches. Even the second-most recent thread as of this post got pushed to the second page of Gambling: January 05, 2021, 03:03:08 PM
That's something you're going to have to ask theymos. IIRC any boards that were archived were usually related to the subject itself becoming (essentially) irrelevant (e.g. the Multibit board after Multibit Classic and Multibit HD were deprecated). This sort of ties into the high bar for creation of new boards - once it's there, it'll probably remain there for a very long time.

Spear the bees
Unless a subset of possible board topics is dominating the front page (+50% of topics on the front page belong to said subset), it's highly unlikely that it'll have a sub-section created for it. Not much point in creating a board that will be dead on arrival.

In the overwhelming majority of cases, boards are created not to encourage discussion of a subject but to stop a certain subject from dominating a board meant for a larger array of topics.

but rather where you can discuss strategies, what factors made your investment work, what did not, etc.
It seems to be too niche an area and regular engagements would depend on new members coming in to share their own experiences, advice and strategies. If you broaden it to include updates and news about cryptocurrency investment then it would roughly fit into both Economics > Speculation boards.
I consider the Economics sub forum to be appropriate for most investment discussions as regular news and updates are posted there, with an influx of spam it has become more difficult to find interesting topics however.

If you're referring to having a section for investments in general(also includes assets outside cryptocurrencies like stocks), I actually really really want this. It's just that I think that people here are mostly just crypto-only so it would probably be no different than the Trading Discussion section.

Relevant (with additional edits):

As with all sub-forum requests, I'm gonna ask a question - how many topics about Satoshi investment decisions that'd fit the definition of the new board are currently on the first 3 or so pages of any board? Or on several boards combined? If there aren't enough topics (at least 20 on the frontpage and around 10 on later pages in my experience) to fill a board (meaning such topics do not dominate the discussion sphere of an existing board), what's the point of making a new section that'll be dead on arrival.

Unless a subset of possible board topics is dominating the front page (+50% of topics on the front page belong to said subset), it's highly unlikely that it'll have a sub-section created for it. Not much point in creating a board that will be dead on arrival.
