Blockchain technology isn't really applicable to social media platforms. I've seen some projects add the blockchain to social media platforms (steemit for example), but the blockchain is really only used to be able to facilate fast, and easy transactions for users to profit off content (think steem, and the rewards you get from making content on steem).

Social media platforms is a place where content is produced and shared, and blockchain isn't really popular for doing that sort of thing - it's mostly used for transactions.

Why can't it be? Blockchain has many more uses than just confirming the ^transactions^ quick, and everything that relates to data and especially databases (just like it does while producing blocks) needs blockchain and can empower it in a different way if the one implementing it knows better on how to set blockchain into this genre and get things going, then I believe that limiting blockchain to just a few uses doesn't seem to be fair enough in your thoughts.

That is true. Social media have been part of the daily lives of almost everyone in the world, especially the younger generations, thus, since the introduction of the blockchain technology that is heavily hinged on social media and the internet, in general, its success has also been directly related to how it is being marketed online as it is in social media sites. There was even a time ICO campaigns are advertised through different social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter; that is testament enough as to how social media is very useful in the promotion of blockchain technology.
I look at how Facebook and Twitter block accounts of cryptocurrency users and think why there are no full-fledged social networks on the blockchain? For example, the same Twitter on the blockchain? Why not make such a social network?

We are now living in the world dominated by the big social media sites and this is not boding well in terms of control, ownership and influence. We need something that is really working for the interest of the people as the primary reason of existence above all else and hopefully the blockchain technology can be helping us towards that goal. This is all about content ownership and how this content and how the monetization of the content can be share with the owners of the content in the first place. I am also looking into the many ways that the blockchain technology can help lessen the prevalence of fake news shared all over social media sites. There are many things that can happen once we utilize the blockchain technology to make social media much better and be responsive to the needs of the people or the very audience they should be serving.

I think we are seeing a shift in the way people are thinking about how they use social media. More people are upset about ads and the fact that data is being used against them. There are some promising projects in the pipeline that I hope replace our current social media apps such as Contentos and Elixxir messaging app
Over-optimistic! Do you actually believe that blockchain developed apps can replace insanely popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp etc? You have got to be kidding with me.

You are expecting a miracle here bud. There is huge potential for blockchain based apps, but they will sit alongside the traditional apps and not completely replace them.

I don't think either that such apps will replace any of social media. Despite the fact that people have changed their attitude towards social media, especially in aspect of use of their personal data , not much is going to change. Blockchain technology is something that gives endless possibilities and probably will be used in every aspect of our lives but probably will not replace classic technologies entirely.

why not ? i mean it is possible that a blockchain based app or social media will replaced other existing sites out there because afaik blockchain is fair and its centralized  . no one can manipulate our data's and personal infos once it is already stored in the blockchain not unlike to other sites that they can steal and expose our infos online .  it might not happen for now because blockchain is not really that mature but itll definetly happen soon  .

The best thing would be when we'd be able to send/tip our coins via the chat itself (just like a feature in Parjar over telegram but with limited coins). I'd love to be able to transfer cryptocurrencies through such chatting and even via PM to someone instead of even visiting my wallet. As Facebook is being buried down into too many cases out there and used to the No.1 social media engine, this will also give a boost to the social media platforms like Steemit, Sapien, Sola, Indorse and many available with their own in-built cryptocurrency being given in rewards. While we're too concerned over not giving our identity for a few bucks (even if it's a KYC over blockchain.com for a few $ worth of XLM), what will influence us anymore to use social media like Facebook any more knowing that they're just playing with our privacy?

I think there is a big changes will blockchain soecially in social media world. Because before if social media is used as a intsrument to know and to see new trend but when it became connected to blockchain it will be the best source of blockchain news and update. And also in internet, when blockchain and crypto are going to going to become regulated even internet connection will be upgraded.

I think one of the things that would most definitely change in Social media, would be the way that they incorporate cheap micro payments on top of these platforms. They currently use "in-house" payment systems that are centralized and expensive to scale and I think they might outsource these services to decentralized Blockchains to host cheaper micro payments networks on top of their platforms.

Why do you have to pay for a "in-house" payment network, if a decentralized Blockchain network can  do it for you for FREE.  Grin

I don't think that the changes are global but sure that it has certain influence and we can't deny this. To my mind, it is better to accept btc and its effects on everything around

There is so much to offer of this blockchain technology to the social media and internet. The idea behind this kind of technology will change the normal usage and process of the internet but will not totally replace the internet. Thus, will only enhances their system.
Today's modern social media platforms has already developed through this blockchain technology and vice versa.
Yeah, there's so much idea that making by people. It just, people still don't run the idea perfectly, like managing it as best they can. I think, it would be more fun if the blockchain was used in social media. However, people must have thought about the negative side even though the positive side looks good.

Despite the fact that blockchain operate using the internet, am made bold to say that the blockchain is the future of the internet just like Google have enough data about all that happen within the internet blockchain is heading to becoming more then Google with data collection  using the smart contract. Blockchain is taking over the from the social media with is verifiable data.

During this blockchain technology has proven to be reliable in recording various transactions that have occurred, and blockchain technology also stores the record data into a ledger that has spread to many computers on the network itself. Besides its reliability in recording blockchain technology never uses a third party or bank. With blockchain technology, at least it will help us to minimize the danger of hacking which often occurs in various countries around the world. Because, each surfer's traffic will be recorded automatically on all computers spread on the blockchain network.

Block chain is originally a mechanism for tracking the digital currency Bitcoin .

This statement is incorrect. The blockchain was not created by Satoshi Nakamoto, distributed ledger system existed before Bitcoin and dates as far back as 1991.
It is surely not originally meant to track Bitcoin. It was modified using the proof of work algorithm to create a secure network for transactions.

I don't think the bolockchain will replace the internet or the bank .. why don't we think blokchain will support the internet and vice versa. We will soon replace the blockchain that really gained popularity over the next five years, I think the blockchain will grow in parallel with the current internet.

The global community today is depending on the big social media like facebook, twitter, and Instagram and I don't think that all of the people really interested in the rewarding value that blockchain could offer. The reason why social media are used by the people just because they know that the people on their circles also uses that social media app/site and it would connect them together.

They don't need the rewards, they only needed to save their memories and ability to share with their friends!
Usually, I'd argue that no-one could have seen the impact of facebook and twitter 2 decades ago either.
But I do think that blockchain is harder to sell indeed.

Blockchain will not change only internet. It'll change all areas on human life. It has just already started. I am looking health sector closely. I think health service can be great soon with blockchain tech. Off course, it affected internet and mobile techs because its nature suit for internet.
