How do I subscribe to the post, but only for people who reply to my posts?
What do you mean by subscribe to post? You mean you want to receive notification if someone quotes your reply? This not possible in current forum software. Smiley

yes that's what I mean Smiley

ohh no wonder I was confused look for it, and finally I tick all on notice Smiley

ok thank you for the information Smiley

I think all you need to do is to post on a topic, and it'll notify you of new replies.

This applies as well if you start a topic.

I think what he meant to ask was:
He only wants the thread to appear in subscription list if someone quotes his posts.

I am pretty sure this is not possible right now.

I think this would be too difficult anyways... a lot of us will snip out quotes or paraphrase to keep  threads more clean. I'm not sure how they could do something that encapsulates all methods of quoting someone like that. So he'd still miss a lot of messages.

AFAIK, it is currently not possible to 'unfollow' a thread in which you have posted. This feature is greatly needed because the thread list keeps getting bigger and bigger day-by-day and many of them are of no further interest to me.

Maybe this will be implemented in new forum software?

"Show new replies to your post" and "Watchlist" are two separate mechanisms, and I agree that it's annoying that you can't unfollow a thread in the "Show new replies" section once you have posted in it.
I don't know how the mythical new forum software handles this, but to me it looks like the best way of implementing the desired functionality would be to have a profile option "add threads to watchlist when I post in them."
That way, you can remove them from your watchlist just as any other watched thread once you lose interest in the topic. Maybe watchlist entries should be marked as either "manual" or "auto-created when you responded to a topic", but that would be icing on the cake and not really necessary.

Or even merge the two together, such that when you post in a thread, it's added to the watchlist. The watchlist would then show all threads you're watching, and "new posts" would pull the listing FROM the watchlist, but ONLY show those with new posts. This would be the perfect solution.

Yep it's very annoying and I can imagine how messed up your "New replies" section would be. Mine is currently just about manageable, 2 pages.

Why do you need to edit that?
As of current features , you can not edit it.
But Have you tried to use the Watchlist ?
It's pretty easy and better than that , the posts you find better , just watch or unwatch them.

Please read the above posts, I did try the watchlist. But where will you get notified of new posts?
Check this

Enable it! and they will be automatically added to your watch list and when you click your watchlist you can see the last Post to see if there are any new Replies .
The list is Sorted time wise so you can also know if you got reply to them lately

Thanks for the info!

go to your profile and then go to "Notifications and Email" section. uncheck the options that you don't want.
i have only checked the "forum announcement" thing.
i think that will solve your problem

I think their goal was to unfollow specific threads, to clean up the list of new replies. I'd actually like to know how to do this as well, since as far as I can tell it's not possible.

Yup. So some threads I posted in are has so much replies that it fills up all my new replies tab. I tried to go to watchlist and untick those unwanted threads but afterwards they just kept informing me for new replies.

Using pooya's method I can only untick the email notification box. The problem in my case is about the forum notifications but not the email notifications for PMs.

Yeah, this has been an ongoing problem for me as well, and I spent a long time in the past trying to figure out how to get around it. I'm thinking it may be a... "feature" of SMF, such that we don't have control over it. Sucks because it's pretty annoying.

May I ask what SMF means? Lol it might be a stupid question.

It appears that I have already unwatched a topic, because the option on the bottom right side only has "watch" but not "unwatch". So it is a bug that needs fixing right?

SMF = Simple Machine Forums. It's the software these forums use (and is also seen in the footer of every page, :p).

Watch vs. unwatch only deals with the watchlist. Not the "show replies" function.

If a thread is on your watchlist, doesn't that mean as well that you'll get notified of new replies in your new replies section?
