Dreamwatcher's PCIe x1 -> x16 Adapter has arrived in the mail today just now.

Thanks, dreamwatcher.

I will do some testing on my pciex1, see if it needs pin shorting.

or it is some proprietary slot and u dong get a connection Sad

Why du u need that riser, when there is a whole pcie Slot aviable?

Do you mean "when there are two PCI Express x16 slots?"

Well, two of my PCI Express x16 slots are occupied by two cards atm. I do not need the riser now as I am going "in the future" to use the pcie x1 slot for a third card. I believe I cannot use the PCI slots with an adapter while my PCI Express x16 slots are occupied otherwise the risers block the fan inlet of the cards. Risers are tall from the looks of it.

Another work around is to get two one PCI Express x16 extender for my two one card, then I would be able to occupy the PCI slots with the work of 2 risers & 2 adapters.

Hope that it works for u, gibe it a try Smiley

It should, if not, then I have tons of different gauged wire that I will have to pin short the pcie x1 slot. Find the right gauge and short it.

I am really hoping I do not have to pin short it. People stating they fried this or that because of shorting it.

Dreamwatcher is mailing off one PCIe x1 -> x16 Adapter to me, tomorrow.

Oh well, but you can still use that x1 pcie slot, no?

Yep, that's free to be occupied. That is exactly what I was thinking.

Actually, I cannot fit the riser on my board. The slots face the wrong direction, making not enough room as I have two cards on it, in fact I don't think the riser that is linked will fit either.

The linked riser will fit, I just looked, I will complete my goal in coming months.

Thank you to all for have helped me.

I will no longer need that extension, Dreamwatcher. I appreciate the offer though.

If the linked riser will fit, so will yours, just remove it from the metal bracket. BROKK is probably right though that it won't work.

Yup, I believe he is, i got the term for the slots on the adapter, they are diagonal, making it impossible to use anyhow.

Does your mystery riser have a model number you can google? It's some kind of dual pci/pcie riser. If it fits in a pci slot, it's worth a shot I suppose. But since you can get exactly what you need for $20, I'd be inclined to just get it and not experiment with some unknown riser that might f-up expensive hardware.

Another thing to consider is that between the adapter and the riser you are looking at around $50, and it might make more sense to just get a new mobo. This

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130616

for example is the same socket type as the board you have, and has 2 16x pcie and 2 1x pcie. So you can fit four GPUs before you even need to mess with pci to pcie adapters. $60 after rebate. You should to do a search on this forum before buying it, though, to see if anyone has had experience mining with it.

Awesome idea to check the model number, didnt even come to mind to do that. I found it at ebay but mine is  rev A01

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-TRINIDAD-RISER-CARD-REV-3-1-CN-03B217-/290661677823

Nah, I cannot buy a new mobo at this point, I'm strapped at just getting the extender from dreamwatcher.

Cool - unfortunately that Ebay listing isn't too informative about what the riser is - maybe you could email the seller to get more info. But like I said, if the riser fits a pci slot, it's worth a try. If it fits a pcie slot, then I don't think it will be useful (unless you want to get a pci to pcie adapter and try to run two cards off your riser, which is more than a bit crazy, but who knows it might work).

Yup, it won't be useful at all. It was worth a shot though.

That PCIe Slot on the Riser is for a special Controller Card. I don't think that a normal card will work with it.

Its for that card: http://www.google.de/imgres?q=add2r&hl=de&client=safari&sa=X&rls=en&biw=1409&bih=662&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnsfd&tbnid=4qliQzt6P92FTM:&imgrefurl=http://www.ebay.ch/itm/IBM-39J9334-PCI-e-DVI-D-Connection-Adapter-ADD-2-R-/360243803548&docid=40ei8M11F0eahM&itg=1&imgurl=http://i.ebayimg.com/04/!BoeRkCQBmk~%2524(KGrHqYOKkIEu,VS7cqOBLnk5F1Ijg~~_35.JPG&w=300&h=225&ei=sAXeT7D1BfH24QSZ2sGKCg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=716&sig=101676894714872158279&page=1&tbnh=135&tbnw=181&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:77&tx=114&ty=66

Ah, ok, cool, thats great info there. I believe you are right. It was worth a try, come to find out anyhow, if it is pressed into my pci slot on the board, the slots on the adapter face what would be up, towards the processor, making it not fit anyhow as my pci e x16 and x8 slots are occupied  with two cards.

We were posting at the same time.

I will no longer need that extension, Dreamwatcher. I appreciate the offer though.

My apologies for my mishap here.

But, I got the basic idea what I need to do now.

Alright cool. Thanks man for the help.

That is what this adapter is for in post #2, But Dargo and I are un sure if my posted image riser will still work.

http://cablesaurus.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=28
I have a bunch of those pci-e extenders, in fact I have made a decision to shut down one of my miners and sell off the cards to by a BFL single.

I could send you some (I will have (2) x16-x16 and (2) x1-x16) for cheap say 0.5 BTC including first-class postage ,if in the USA. IF outside the USA it might cost more in postage then to just order from a vendor.

Edit: 0.5 for 1 of them.  Cheesy

First thing first is it exactly this? http://cablesaurus.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=28 And is that including postage?
If so, then Yea, that will be wicked. What I can do is, have that mailed to me, and test the riser here with one of the cards I've got now. And if it works or not, I'll know.

If it is exactly the same product as in the link, post up in for sale and pm me right away, I'll be right there.

Edit:
I'm in the States.

They do not have the molex connector, however I doubt you need it. I am running four cards per rig now w/o the molex just fine. Other than that exactly the same (x1-x16)

From the description on cablesaurus:
"Molex connector reroutes power from your motherboard PCIe slot. This prevents graphics card damage to 5970 & 6990 or other dual GPU cards running via an extender cable, and also prevents motherboard damage to any system running more than 4 GPUs simultaneously."

I have no problem sending one to you first to try out, we are only talking about a 0.5 BTC.  Cheesy

Just PM me an address and I will mail it out first class tomorrow.
