You created your account on December 13th and you have made total 21 posts in your account out of which two are on Lending board, multiple posts are on Alternate cryptocurrencies and some posts you have read in economic section but they are very short. To earn merit through posts you must post constructively. When your posts are constructive you will see that you can earn merit from your posts. There is a lot to learn since you just created your account. You have to know a lot about the forum and about the different sections when you know about those topics you can create good quality posts about specific topics. But to make good quality post you need to know first so keep learning and bring that knowledge here hope you will definitely qualify.

Hello, new bitcointalk user, been around on this site for around a year or so, just never decided to create an account. I’ve seen people with tons of merit! But yet I have not a single clue on how to gain any, whilst people have thousands! Pretty much a newbie when it comes to posting Tongue. But any help works, thank y’all!
If you’ve been around for over a year even as a guest and you’ve been reading the threads posted here on, then you must have hpt more than enough clue to earn you just enough merit to be at least a Full member. That’s just one of the possibilities even though your only just creating your account, the knowledge would have been there.

Don’t mind me coming at you this way, I’m just going by what you’ve stated in OP and with the fact that, there have been tons of this sort of thread in the past, not like I don’t wish or have hopes of seeing this sort of thread, of course it’s normal but, having the impression that it’s just been used to troll is what makes it a bad idea and that’s what I feel your doing with this post.

I would like to welcome all new forum members. But you must have patience and read forum threads to understand forum cultures. Creating merit threads by newbies is really not appreciated here since you are too lazy to read and search. You may simply use the forum search button in case you need to know something. A ton of merit discussion threads have been created here, and you may learn from them instead of just creating new threads. You have to improve yourself on the forum. It's not necessary to reply to every thread, and you don't need to make a faster reply as well. Develop yourself and contribute to the forum. Merit would come based on your contribution.

Have you been paying attention to this forum for more than a year? how could that be! Are you just visiting this forum as a guest?

there are many beginners who ask this, how to get merit and merit but only a few of the beginners want to listen to the advice given by senior members on this forum.  i just add a little that getting merit is not that difficult when you are able to make posts (can be in the form of new topics or just reply messages) that are of high quality and that are really helpful, it's impossible for you to get merit if the posts you make are off topic and hit by spam, so the thing you have to pay attention to is the literacy of your writing, keep upgrading your insight and be patient.

Well the main reason why I’d like to earn merit is because I have to wait 360 seconds just to reply + post a topic. Kind of annoying, and the only way to fix that from what I’ve read is to earn more merit. <…>
Just to emphasize that the correct answer to the above quote was provided by SquirrelJulietGarden. Merits do not shorten the waiting time between posts in any way, but rather the only parameter that does is Activity, as depicted in the said answer. Merits primarily contribute towards Rank alongside Activity, being the former normally more difficult to increment than the latter in general terms.

One more thing to consider is that the wait time between posts is also influenced by other things you may do on the forum. I can’t recall the complete list, but one of the main ones is performing a search: when you search, the wait time applies to both the amount of time you need to wait to perform another search, and the amount of time you need to wait to create a post.

Wow, 😲 you are speculating this forum for over a year and now you think of creating the account. i mean that's seem dumb because what benefit in spending 1 year in just speculating the forum while the real fun was in creating account and engaging with daily discussion. Well, I will not ask what kept you intact with this forum while you had no interaction with it.

The answer to your question is really easy. Which is you will earn as much merits as much you will contribute to this forum. Contribution in the form of making useful topics and helping others. The more you contribute the more merits you can get. I said can because it is not sure that you will get merits or not. Because you might be thinking this topic would be of any contribution to the forum but you are not getting any merits on that. Its because that topic might not be of contribution for those who have already read it hundred times.

By contributing, you earn merit(s). If your post is good, you get 1 merit. If your post is great, people might give you multiple number of merit.
You just do not ask for it. That's how it works. Just keep posting good content, keep people up-to-date and entertained and you will make it.

You mentioned that you have been around this forum for over a year. If that is the case, then you should have been aware of the required contributions to the forum in order to receive merit, and you should have obtained more information about this forum. I'm still surprised that you ask for guidance. You're welcome, and based on your question, anyone asking a question will know where to go right away. However, getting merit requires knowledge of the guidelines provided by the forum, doing good research about bitcoin, and the creation of a good quality post. If you continue in doing these things, I don't think you will find any merit at all, merit will come to you. If your post is good enough to gain merit, you will, but, people who have thousands of merit didn't get it in a day, their hard work and contribution to the forum's outcome are what got them those points.

Frankly, I understand that beginners may ask about anything in the forum, and I may do that if I join a new forum, but some things can be found with a Google search, and how to earn merits has been discussed at least hundreds of times, so creating such topics will not help you collect more.
lock this topic, create at least 30 posts, do not spam, and if you do not get merits, make a link to your best posts in the merit sources topics.

If you have been here for about a year and have not discovered this information, this is a problem.

If your reason for being on this forum is all about earning merits I don't think you will do very good on here because the reason why this forum was created is to help beginners like you to understand more about crypto and the blockchain system, you need to spend your time on learning as a newbie I expect someone like you to start creating some topics about things you don't understand or start asking questions about some things you want to know in crypto space.

If one of your question is good enough someone can send you merits,. You can also earn merit by helping people out on this forum, all you have to do is engage in different discussions and try to solve some problems  that some other people are having but I don't expect such thing from a newbie anyway because you don't have the knowledge at all, you can't help people, you are the one that need help to acquire some crypto knowledge.

Ask yourself why you are on this forum, and start working on it, ask questions, engage in discussions, keep learning more about the block chain, I believe there are many things you don't know about crypto right now.

You must be patient if you want to make progress in this forum. You can't become great overnight if you haven't gone through some procedures to get there. You have not received any merit because you have not made any posts that any member has deemed worthy of merit. Take a look at those who have been merited, and look at their pattern of posts to see how they earned those merits; you can learn from them and improve yourself through the posts you make in this forum.
Just like you have explained, patience and consistency is one of the key to earning merits as a member of this community. We don't have to rush things because we want to grow quickly as start making money. Even with the merit system, there are some campaigns that don't care about merits when applying for them. This is more of a quality posts and the way we structure our posts. There are few managers that based there acceptance of signature campaigners on merits but still some that wouldn't care if you have large bunch of merits. You need to be a quality posters before you are accepted into the campaign.

The time you have spent here for more than a year is wasted if after creating an account you are still throwing questions like this on the forum. The merit system is not moderated directly by the forum, you can get it if the posts you make are considered quality by other users. Looks like you should spend more time on forums to learn this simple thing.
Merit is not to be chased, but will come to you if you are able to produce quality posts. Study all the topics that successfully invite merit, you will better understand how the merit system works.

There's a lot of threads similar like this and for sure you can't get that merits if you keep asking this question without doing any research so its best for starter like you to research first before asking some obvious question. This could make you a little smarter to ask more important question rather than asking on how to earn a merit which is already been ask by other and now its up for you to read so you can learn from the words posted by people in this forum.

Imagine you are here for a year but still you didn't learn anything so much better if you put some effort to research since this is more helpful to you rather than being lazy around or try to seek those people who will spoon feed you with the information's you want to know.

OP, you must understand that people here are used to seeing such topics, and this raises a lot of questions among users since many new people do not know how to look for answers on their own. But no one will ban you for creating several topics. We would just like to see something unique since your question is answered regularly.
And yes, you are not here for the sake of merit, but there is another reason why you most likely decided to register on the forum.
Your first post on the forum is a request for a loan. But since you are a newbie and have no reputation, you will always be denied credit.
Will you still be interested in the forum after this comment?

You said you've been here for about a year or so before deciding to create an account, so what do you find here during that time period if you still ask this simple question here. I hope you don't miss this Thread [1], this [2] and this [3].
Study all the descriptions in the thread to increase your insight while in the forum and learn more about how to get Merits. At first it's a little confusing, but you have to dare to do something new to contribute to the forum by producing quality posts. Merit is not something that is difficult to obtain, develop the abilities you have to achieve your goals.

Just ensure you dedicate your strength and effort of learning those things that are related to cryptocurrency, so that you can acquire knowledge of cryptocurrency and it can improve your quality post in the bitcointalk.org which is the best way for newbies to earn merits in the platform. Those legendary and hero members you saw with huge amount of merits in the platform took their time to study so many things that related to cryptocurrency before they were able to achieved a potential skills that made them to become a professional in the platform and to be in such position today.

Just be patience, I think you will surely get there when your time come because there are some rules and regulations that governed the merits source in the platform and if you are in a hurry to rank up to member or full member rank it can lead you to bad situation that will make you to be ban from the platform once you disobey the rules that deserve the punishment.

Well the main reason why I’d like to earn merit is because I have to wait 360 seconds just to reply + post a topic. Kind of annoying, and the only way to fix that from what I’ve read is to earn more merit. Thank you for replying to this though, gives me a bit more understanding and one more question, to search up a question, do I have to click on the topic that’s for the question that I am looking for? Or am I able to just search it up?
The limit will be lesser when you have more than 14 posts and 14 activity points even you don't get any merit to rank up to Jr. member, you will be able to make a post with a waiting time less than 360 seconds. It will become about 60 seconds between two posts that is enough for you to write a post and post it.

If  your post is not spam, I think compose it in 30 or 60 seconds is possible so the waiting time (60 seconds) is not a big problem. You need 4 more posts to get to that more friendly waiting time.

What are the time limits on posting and the levels??
I know 360 seconds are for new people like me, but was wondering if there was break down somewhere on this.

Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit.

I’m not aware of what the rules are, like I said, I’m new. I didn’t know that creating a bunch of threads could get me banned?

How about you starting from the rules[1]? Since you don’t know the rules of the forum despite stating that lurking around the forum for a long time.

Quote
I’m not just here for Merit, I don’t even know what its for, I was just trying to gain knowledge on how people have so much and how it works/how to gain it.

If you don’t know how it works then how did you know that earning some will reduce your waiting time before you can make a comment? In just a week of you creating an account you have made two loans request and one has already been rejected (and we also know what the outcome of the second one will be though). If you want to be part of the community be a part of it, don’t scam or make up stories to get loans that you won’t pay back.

I think Rome  was not built a day, those who you saw with tons of merit did not get those merit by a platter of gold, but by hard work and consistency before they could achieve that. I also ask myself such question when i came new. But now I have learnt that for you to succeed in this forum you must develop the habit of reading to know how to make quality post that will earn merits. Because merits will come when you engage in more serious discussion than only asking question.
