Magic tip for you to get merits is stop asking anything about merit!  Grin

Instead, spending your time to read helpful topics, which I presented in my another thread in another topic. You can get them and my recommendations via the following link:

Before focusing on Merit, try and learn as much as you can so you aren't like a fish out of water.

I have to be honest, i don't know half as much as some people here but i definitely feel i have something to contribute and i'm glad to participate in an active community where i read and learn something new everyday.

Don't get me wrong i'd like to get (more) merit too eventually, but i'm realistic enough to know its not going to happen overnight, so just keep looking/reading and learning.

One more tip here..... Read peoples posts who have merit- you'll soon understand why they got it.  Smiley

As a newbie i think we shouldn't focus too much in getting or earning merits. we should focus more in learning and studying bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and by the time that we get enough knowledge and we can already contribute i think getting those merits would just follow Smiley

Keep on posting things or commenting on topics that could help bring the community of this forum active. Something that you can share to the cryptcommunity and once someone can read through your post and would agree to it then you will be give merits. Just dont lose hope and keep on posting.

Merit points are nothing but points awarded for the good contribution to the poem in the form of quality content. Consider it like a Facebook like system but here on bitcointalk, everyone has certain restrictions that define his maximum number of outgoing merit points. Thus, one would always consider quality has the highest parameter while giving merit points to someone. The best way to gain merits is to share your knowledge in a best possible way without trying to cheat the system.

Merit is given by other users that find your post useful. It's not easy getting merits, and I wouldn't focus too much on it. Instead try to learn all about Bitcoin read a lot, and be helpful to other users requests and questions. At some point you will get your first merit, and your second. And soon you will see why you receive merits, and why most of the posts do not. From your history I can tell that most of your posts just answer with an opinion about something that has nothing to do with Bitcoin. Those posts will not get you far, as they are considered useless and spammy in this forum, thanks to all the bounty campaigns.

Yes, I'm new in this area and although having merit is enticing, it shouldn't be a focus especially for a newbie. Instead, reading the available information and learning from it pays much. Having merit will be earned through time and will be a reflection of what has been learned and contributed in this forum.

Im almost there I will get enough activity, but I can't get the merit. What should I do and how will I get it?

You have to make useful post which is unique and constructive. Then the merit holders will give you merits

I think that the new merit system, required now to reach higher member ranks, is very important to increase the quality of the forum. You can find more about Merit in this post, and also in the infographics that are linked in it: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.28856522

However, it is also true that not many people know about Merit, and therefore it is not easy to get, because most people will not give merit to others (they do not know what it is, how to give it, and it is not intuitive). I have never received any Merit (just what I got for my rank), even when I do try to provide quality answers to other people posts. It is really hard.

Merit is a contribution to rank up your membership. Few Months ago, there was not any merit system. The ranking was depended on peoples activity but now to rank up your membership you need to have merits and which is given by the merit holders. There is two way to earn merits one is to post unique and useful post so that the merit holders can give you some merit to you depending on your post quality and the other way is to become a merit source. To become a merit source there has some procedure. So, For earning merit you should make an unique post which should be useful to people. You must having a merit, It's my guarantee. So, people don't be so hopeless.Post with your own creative mind, It will bring your expectation. Best of Luck✌✌

You receive merit from merit holders as a reward for your contribution to the platform, I must say here that they have to find your post informative before you can be awarded a merit. Just concentrate on quality post, then merits will naturally come.

That simple, man, merit is a system of recognition of a good post. Yet, the quality of a post is not defined, but you can search for the most-merited posters in order to get an idea of what the community thinks deserving of some rewards.
To do so, maybe the better way is to stay in silence for a while and to read and learn as much as you can, either from other's experiences on earning merits or by building your own and original ideas about how can you contribute to the forum.
But both of these ideas need some time and to chill, to read and to learn.

Read this first https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/faq-everything-you-need-to-know-about-forum-activity-account-ranks-and-merit-2766177 then try to make good quality posts and try to contribute to the forum as well.
Take a look on "meta" there is many topics above merit, for example :

And who decides is the post useful or not?

I decide if a post is useful or not, and I award merit accordingly. Fortunately for you guys, there are about 100 other merit sources who can make their own individual decisions. In addition, posters who have received merit, can also make this decision based on their own judgement. So as you can see, the forum is awash with unspent merit looking for good homes.

Merit and activity both is different. You have enough activity it doesn't mean you deserve merit unless there is no quality or useful post. Once you post new topic or reply forum members will read. If your post is useful for forum or member's they can give you merit those are smerit holder.

You just need to post quality posts here that is fruitful to other members. For example, you posted a status in facebook, then people find it fruitful or funny, so they “liked” it. That’s your merits my friend, the “like” or respect for your status/ posts
