Merit is something you earn when your post seems knowledgeable to user and the user may decide to give you Merit for it.
You don't have to repeat it a thousand times without some very relevant additions.

Thought the OP wasn't interested in continuing the discussion after he created the thread, this certainly allows for a lot of repeated replies since basically almost all advice are the same between one user and another. Hope this gets locked soon, anyways this is a very general question that shouldn't take 4-5 pages.

Hi guys, i'm a new user in this forum and I just wanna know, how do I get merits on my post. Is it just by writing or are there any other task involved.
Getting merit is not very difficult and it is difficult for many people who do not have proper knowledge to get merit. To get merit you should first focus on your post quality and how informative the post is. And try to open a topic about which no one has opened a topic yet but it may be important to forum users. Then you can get merit.  Again it is possible to earn merit from many contests like many have earned huge amount of merit in pumpkin contest.  Many have crossed the full member rank by opening a new account only by getting merit from the pumpkin contest. So stay active in the forum and try different strategies.

It is because people like that only think of earning merits for different reasons like increasing their rank to join bounty campaigns instead of thinking how to contribute in this forum or how to make a good/high quality posts then merits will surely come.

Is something I experienced when I first came here, you know sometimes too much expectations makes one to think of having merit in every post you make, but now I've come to understand that when you put much effort in your post and let it slide, the reward will come without you knowing.

Merit is required for a user to change his rank in bitcoin forum. However, to get merit, several rules have to be followed. If you post outside of certain forum rules, you will not get merit. If you want to get merit then share active and constructive information regularly.
Also if you have posted off topic then there will be no chance of getting merit. You should learn how to share good information from the profiles of various legendary members of the forum. Moreover, you should refrain yourself from copying and pasting, remember that in order to gain merit, you must share your unique information with everyone.

I can only give suggestions, improve the quality of your posts and let the merit come to you by itself.

if you see senior accounts that have a lot of merit, that means their contribution and also their reputation for years in this forum is no longer in doubt.

To find out the rules in this forum, you can look at the topic that was given a PIN in this thread.
do you mean senior member rank accounts or older forum members?. If you mean senior member ranks then I would say it is not entirely correct because some forum members even those who have Legendary member rank got airdropped merits when merit is implemented although there are some forum members who started as a newbie with 0 merits until they reach the legendary member rank because of their contribution to the forum. It may not be easy to get merits but it is not possible. I am once a newbie with 0 merits untill I have what I have right now and I won't forget those who have helped me achieve this because of their guidance.

Speaking about getting a merit on a post, is some how funny although to me I find it funny because you take your time do some research and when you're done with all that, you post it with a smile on your face hoping that it will draw attention "yes" it will but after having like 5plus comments you find out that your post have no merit put scroll down to other comments you see merits on other people's opinion to your post and not yours. That's really painful but what do we do? Let it go, continue the same thing on and on but one day merit will come like a surprise.

Asking for help about getting merit is not wrong, but your main focus on this forum shouldn’t be only about merits. If you put enough time on learning and post valuable conversation or help anyone on this forum with your knowledge or expertise you will get merit.

Merit helps you to stand out from the crowd and with only merit and activities you can rank up. So if you spend time on this forum you will find a way to get merit and rank up.
We know merit  is very important in this forum, but it is not always good to focus or give attentions to only getting merits because that will show that you are only eager to be accepted into a campaign, merit is always given for a quality post made,so it is not merit you have to look out for, what should be very important to you is making quality and reasonable posts that will be likeable by anyone who reads it.Making quality post do not only make you known in the forum, but it also gives you that edge above other members on thesame rank with you.Any forum member who disciplines himself on making good topics, posts that will attract the mind of the readers will definitely grow in merit and in rank in the forum,no doubt about that. Therefore,In as much as you need merits, also try to increase the quality of posts you make because that's what will bring the merits.

Welcome to the forum, if you are looking for merit, it's other members of the forum that will give you the merit, if anyone thinks your post is useful and it worth meritng, they might decide to merit it. Everything is not just about writing, make sure your post is meaningful, make sure people are benefiting from your post and also make sure you avoid plagiarism. People that are despirate to get merit always end up plagiarisming and punishment for plagiarism is ban, so you have to be very careful and don't spam on the forum.

That's what I advised OP when I replied here to give OP an advice on what's best that OP should do here in this forum. If you focus on earning merits then that's the time you will notice that you hardly earn a merit compared to other forum members who receive many merits. Spending time in the forum is good but it would be better if the time you will spend in the forum is for learning then you will become a constructive poster which will help you get merits. It is also important if OP will learn how this forum works and also following forum rules which is very important.

The user might not be trying to get merits at all. Some join here with the sole purpose of joining bounties and getting some pay from that, and there are bounties that do not require one to get any merits.

it's not that they haven't read or studied about the wider issue of gifts. I think those who create an account just to join the bounty campaign are the ones who have experience in forums. it could be that the members participating in the bounty campaign are members who have been on the forum longer than us. more of them have starter account farms.
they know the information in the forums. they just don't want to develop themselves. they weren't hunting for Merit, it wasn't that they weren't capable. they just don't want it.

There is nothing wrong in asking how to get merits because merits is a very big part of this forum. It is something we cannot shy away from. Without merits ranks would be stocked and stagnant and the forum may become boring.
Everyone in the forum needs merit and it is good to know how to earn it legitimately.
Asking about how to get merit was basically fine, but what was problem was how he had directly asked about the merit system since his first post. If OP is aware that merit is needed to rank up, then he should already know how he got it without having to ask.

I honestly don't want to kick it too hard, but it's hard to believe newbie would ask about the merit of his first post unless he was mentored to be here. But welcome to the bitcointalk.org forum OP, if you haven't been introduced yet.

1 post and 1 activity. This question is not what you need now. What you need is to be active and while you are then you can visit some thread yourself to understand the merit system very well and why it was introduced. If you want to know that much about it you have to check the meta board but it is still early for merit to bother your mind. You need to enjoy the forum while making your thread and responding to post to the best of your knowledge.and you can get some merit that way.

OP, I see that this is your first post on the forum, and that you became a member only a few days ago.
So instead of introducing yourself to the forum community, and sharing your interests, your first question is about merit.
By using the simple search option, you would find hundreds of such questions on this forum and immediately see the answer.
The answer is very simple. If you want to get something, you have to give something first, and what that depends solely on you, your knowledge, experience, interests etc.

Op, you get merits when you make quality posts and quality posts are the posts that provide information and solve people's problem.

The user might not be trying to get merits at all. Some join here with the sole purpose of joining bounties and getting some pay from that, and there are bounties that do not require one to get any merits.

If many of such users joined the community, did more reading and learning, I am confident they could be as good as any member we have on the forum.

As long as you make valuable contributions to the forum, earning merit in the forum is not difficult.

But since you're a new member and I think you should learn more first, especially about the forum rules, I will  never urge you to start a post or a comment right away.So it will be preferable to frequent the forum to see how things are progressing.op you need seriously knowledge in order to contribute valuable things to the forum.

Don't be eager to earn merit, if not you will end up being a spammer in the forum which may lead your account to neutral trust.

Welcome to This forum. First creating the high quality posts that provide value addication to community post include insightful responses to other questions helpful advice or sharing knowledge on a particular topic. 1 more thing Posting regularly and consistently can also help increase your chances of receiving merit. Good luck

The funny thing is that you can give good advice to the OP in terms of earning merit. But what makes me wonder is that you yourself still haven't gotten merit even though you have made a post and after I tried to check all the posts you have made so far, I was immediately surprised and understood why you didn't get merit but could only give advice to OP. And if I may know why you are so good at giving advice to others, but you yourself have never carried out the suggestion.
