Even if CIA themselves release an official statement that they have Satoshi in custody, quite a number of people will not believe and some will even term it conspiracy theory that he is dead and that's why they are claiming credence for that which leads us to the fact that we don't know whether they got to him or he cut a deal or even the file is classified and we can't even know. We just continue to give him credit for bringing some form of liberation to us.

Is it not plausible that the CIA was successful in tracking him down?

Its plausible, but why do we should care? I mean bitcoin working on its own, developed by independent people around the world.
Satoshi has no secret knowledge about bitcoin, Satoshi don't control anything, even if he would died, nothing changes for bitcoin.

Non from the bitcoin community care about satoshi anymore so they can have Craig. They can do whatever they want to him. Force him to withdraw those premined btc, if the CIA can get them, its theirs. There are already thousands of readily available to replace btc if something happen.

Question:
We all know that Satoshi disappeared after Gavin talked to the CIA...

It is mostly assumed (I think) that Satoshi left the project voluntarily..

But how do we know that the CIA didn't get to him first?

Is it not plausible that the CIA was successful in tracking him down?

Disclaimer:
I’ve been into bitcoin for about 3 years now, but I haven't used much time on this particular topic. I’m probably just missing some pieces of the puzzle…

Could somebody please fill me in on the information that I’m missing?

I am not sure if I am right in my idea that the reason why the Central Intelligence Agency of CIA will approach Satoshi is due to their project Quantum Computer. Possibly they need the expertise of Satoshi to complete and perfect their quantum computer project. But if Quantum Computers will succeed bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will be in danger.

Of course they did, but it doesn't matter.

Is there any proof of that..?
We may never know who is Satoshi in the first place. Even if CIA had got hold of him then they would have tried to do some harm to the core.
I feel CIA has other important things to do rather than using their resources to find Satoshi.

because unless you are able to prove what you claim it only remain a conjecture, the same way when we think that maybe he is dead, no onw know all speculation

for all we know satoshi may be very well among the dev core, sirius was the only guy working with him i remember, on the launch of this forum, maybe we should ask him

Edit/PS: I thought I recall bitcoin technology being useful to the CIA. And wasn't there a story somewhere where the CIA actually uses bitcoin for their clandestine activities? You would think the CIA would appreciate the Satoshi

I kinda agree with that

Given their resources, Bitcoin is a valuable tool for tracking down terrorists (or whoever they might think of as such), money launderers and other criminals (Silk Road feels like to be the most glaringly obvious example of that kind). In this respect, it may be subpar to digital fiat and transfers but die-hard criminals are obviously quite familiar with these transfers and their "vulnerabilities" as well. In any case, Bitcoin is more traceable than purely cash hand-to-hand transactions

Because Satoshi is already part of the CIA.

Why people are so hell-bent on the CIA? Personally, I would rather expect him (or whoever or whatever might be hiding behind his name) to be part of the NSA

What would make sense for the CIA to arrest Satoshi? He has no influence on the Bitcoin development anymore. Bitcoin is open source. It would only make sense if he would develop bitcoin alone and the source code would not be open.
He is smart enough to hide his details and so is the reason he is not a public figure and bitcoin would not be this popular if it is a closed source, because no one would believe it and it will be a monopoly and no one would rather care to try it.

Because Satoshi is already part of the CIA.
Good theory .How can he be a part of the CIA.Leave the genius alone.

We don't know what happened to him, and unless satoshi revels himself to the world and proves himself to be satoshi the truth is we will never know, however since he hid his identity from the beginning then the chances of that is very low.

no one will know what the CIA did with satoshi, did CIA get to satoshi or not, i think CIA itself will cover the truth and won't tell to public about this. i think if they get satoshi, they will asked many question about bitcoin and blockchain technology and if they got the answer, the CIA will not share the info to the public.

Today's keywords CIA Cheesy someone said if bitcoin was a bad thing CIA would've stopped and destroyed the system like they are our mothers with hearts filled with love, get out of here kid.
-someone said something about Snowden and stuff Cheesy they already know where everyone located but reaching them in said locations is impossible such as embassies.
-If Satoshi doesn't spend a few bucks of bitcoins that he has from the first 100 mined blocks in the next 3 years know for sure that he is dead because he can go anywhere and use timely triggered transaction to avoid being tracked.
-You all say that it wasn't a person but a group of a few coders, however the idea must've come from a single mind, the spark were made in one person's mind and I believe him to be of old age especially because of the genesis quote from newspaper and he must've had some experiences dealing with banks and bankers.
Anyhow God bless him anywhere he is, dead or alive.

If satoshi said "let's do X about the blocksize thing", im sure a lot of people would blindly follow. This is how humans work.

To answer your question: We do not know and we will probably never know.

As I have discussed, people are prone to want to listen to leaders, and satoshi is the ultimate "bitcoin figure", it would have obviously an impact on what people think of bitcoin.

what would they gain.

the code is public.

its like trying to stop a train by getting rid of a VIP passenger.. the train still continues

I am not sure if the CIA guys knew too much about the Bitcoin protocol at that time. They might have thought, if they get the main developers, they would be able to control/destroy Bitcoin.

but to get that. satoshi would need to be involved..
he left.

so taking someone out of the project doesnt magically make who they take out suddenly be brainwashed into changing anything.. coz they are out.
however those IN can be brainwashed

We cant know it but if bitcoin were bad system or harmful for people , CIA could stop this system and we cant use this system too .I think bitsoin system will serve our world and this will be useful in the future so CIA can learn someting in this bitcoin system and they know if they stop system , they will not get anything!

As mentioned above, it doesn't matter, who cares. At this point, its moot what happened to Satoshi. The damage is done. Satoshi - whether he is gone/captured/still in hiding/whatever - was successful in getting bitcoin out there.

Satoshi is Legend.

If they determined to find where satoshi is that they want him badly, they sure could find him by tracking everyone who has the knowledge of cryptography during that time

This is next to impossible

They would likely have killed Snowden already if they could but they just can't. The CIA (and their likes) is not omnipotent or omnipresent. The US is obviously not the only pebble on the beach, there are many places in the world where no one gives a fuck about the CIA and other alphabet agencies. What if Satoshi is from China or Iran? Could they track him down? Other than that, we don't even know whether Satoshi is real at all, and not in fact a group of researchers hired by some government pursuing their own obscure ends
