So I've been involved in Bitcoin and crypto for about 5 months now and just about everyone I tell about it being friends and family most have never heard of it or the few that have they have no understanding of it so I was just curious into how others explain it all to total newcomers is their a webpage or video you may show for an easy understanding to explain it all ? Whenever I give my explanation it seems to go way over their head  Roll Eyes Cheers
I do believed that most of the member in this forum or none of them  including me didn't get easily understand for  an hour for what bitcoin really means. So, I think if there's a newcomer keep it simple and short, explain only the usages that's it. Wink

very hard to explain what is bitcoin to those who don't really understand what is cryptocurrency because learn about cryptocurrency cannot be instantly and we have to learn gradually until we understand however this forum already provide usefull informations regarding bitcoin so why not just showing to them this forum
Yes it is tough to explain what is Bitcoin to complete newcomer. At least if they have basic knowledge about digital currency, we can try to explain. For me, it takes few months to complete about digital currency, and still, i have doubts in that a newcomer will need min couple of dedicated hours to know what is bitcoin. And yes this forum is the best place to learn about Bitcoin.

Well i would probably explain it to them the same way as i explained crypto and bitcoins to my parents : Tell them that it is almost same as internet money. They don't have to know anything about blocks, mining or other technical stuff, tell them that it is money that you have to special wallets for them an that's it.
I think you are missing best interesting point of cryptocurrency world is decentralization, nobody can control our money and not have inflationary when use Bitcoin (because still have many altcoin inflationary as BCN).

When a newcomer is asking me about Bitcoin, I usually first ask them what are the things they know about it so that I will know what to teach. If they will say that they don't know a thing, I will tell them to do some research first, I want them to search for the meaning and history of Bitcoin. Afterwards, I will tell them my experiences on Bitcoin investments. I will also share to them my trusted investment sites and it's up to them if they will invest also or not. I will tell them to be extra careful and invest only what they can afford to lose.

I explain some basic needs of a person that really learn first. I ask him/her if he/she have an idea of bitcoin then if have i can go to the next step then i'll try to send some sites that he/she can learn.
My method of explanation of new comers is very easy. I can simply say that in old ages there was system of buying and selling the items which was called barter system. Then the real gold coin were introduces and later on the currency paper system was introduces in recent past.

Now as the world is more modern I gave them the example of mobile balance that it can be used only for to talk with each other and the bitcoin balance can be used for every purpose just like normal currency.

Honestly people are attracted to income and earnings and hated learning and reading.  If you want to catch your audience attention, you can try to bait him into earnings with bitcoin.  If you have established your finance with bitcoin then this will be easy.  Else telling them to come to this thread will only be a waste of time if you do not tell him the reason why he should visit this thread.  Though the way you explain bitcoin should depend on who your audience is, the status in life and interest.

I also experienced the same thing as you, explaining the length and the results make them dizzy, so I prefer to explain via video from youtube. And if they still do not understand then I just tell them to find out for themselves.

I asked this question myself. I stumbled over a steemit article called "A Guide to Being the Crypto Guru - HOW to Explain to People What Crypto is And Where They Should Get Started" which describes a wonderful way to explain the technology to people with different technical knowledge. His strategy is divided into three steps: Gauge knowledge level, understand interest and motivation and direct on the path to enlightenment. Depending on the different levels there is a different way to explain.

i will just explain to them the basics in an easy way. if they show interest then i will guide them to what they want to know. but not all the things i know, only a few. i want them to explore things here by themselves, and i will make sure that they i wont spoonfeed them

Firstly I explain him the most important things about Bitcoin, what is it and how it works, then I invite him to this forum, because reading the useful threads here will teach him a lot of useful info not only about Bitcoin, but about crypto currencies generally.

I've been doing this from quite a while now and start off by describing it as a 'digital currency'. Then I come to the security part where I explain how it is totally secure and decentralized. Later, I address mining and other methods of acquiring BTC. Next up, I tell the history of Bitcoin and tell them to read the whitepaper and how Satoshi mined the first coins. Finally, I tell them to access http://preev.com/ and look at up the price of 1 BTC and make them realize what its value was back when it released.

A new person will never try when he does not try it himself. Believe that when there is a will then we can easily understand a new thing, including bitcoin. So if only explanation but no will then it will not produce anything.

In my case as newbie, when I started asking about bitcoin to my friends who are already in this business before me, they just give some links where I can learn about it. And also in this forum, they encourage me to read some essential guidelines in order to familiarized myself. Just read and suddenly you will learn everything without noticing it to yourself.

The thing about bitcoin and cryptocurencies is that they are easy to understand, so explainng the basic thing for someone who never knew what they are is a pretty strate forward thing, just to give them a general idea and to get them started on it, and the rest they will learn over time as theu progress through it, just like we did.
To explain it, I think you should just say the basics. You can just go straight and say “Bitcoin is a digital currency, with a greater value. It can be used for peer to peer transactions.”
After that, you can go ahead to add other things of interest, like telling them it can used as long investment, shopping and a lot more. Anything you can come up with to convince them.
