From the time you created this thread, the cryptocurrency market has dropped more than you expected. It drops more than 50% since December 2017. The market hasn't recover since then and actually it is still on the decline. But, you just need to hold on because these situations will surely pass.
Holding is the right choice but when the coins you are holding lose 60% or more of its value in a matter of weeks and months then we need to admit that it is hard to do, holding is very easy when you are making profits but when your losses are so massive, holding your coins can be one of the most difficult things to do in the world and I understand all of those that have sold their coins even if that was the wrong choice.

The dips are the most important points in remembering to HODL to your coins because as we have seen many times before these are usually as part of a normal market volatility/correction.

This situation in the market is so pitiable and has reduced a lot of traders in incapacitated. I do not buy or sell top and buy bottom because i do not have the money. I am only holding and waiting for the market to moon so that i can get out from my holding position. The best option would have been to buy the bottom and wait to sell when there is a little markup but you must have money which you can afford to lose.

How do you deal with 20% plus drops. Do you try to sell at the top and buy back in? are you a hold on for dear lifer?
Many newbies in crypto trading might be selling their coins in panic on that kind of price drop but if they are already experienced traders or investors, they would going to hold their coins and wait for another round of price uptrend. Holding is still the best strategy to recover your investments and I've been doing it since I started to invest in cryptocurrencies.

The last thing you should have to do during the next dip is to sell your BTC and tokens. You will lose everything. Just relax and think over another business. At the same time, hodl the crypto.

I don't stomach all those dip, I just work harder to forget about it and move one. If the price rise later on in 2 to 5 years, I may be able to get my money back and more if not then I guess I'd just take it. ETh has definitely lost my faith, $80k is seriously a big loss for me. Too late because I moved my tokens to a private wallet and not in the exchange it it was in the exchange I would have dumped it easily. Luckily I got my back up plan still and am working on projects right now, I'd just forget the investment and will have to move on.

How much is a reasonable amount to start with? Is there such things as a minimum amount or could you possibly start with under a hundred?

Its just apart of it really, you avoid the parts of the market that are obvious for correction, then you wait out the bottom if the dagger cuts a bit and cost average on your entry.  I'm definitely not feeling confident with most alts right now.. I think we could fall even 20-30% further even with BTC staying above 6k.. The pain will help you trade better next time, I promise you.

Depends on the underlying asset. If it's one of the well capitalized coins/tokens and with huge daily volume, 20% drop in price is no cause for alarm. I have seen -58% myself and simply let it be, because of the more likelihood that it won't stay down for so long.

If the value decreases by 10%, it can be sold for a lower price to reduce losses. But with a reduction of 20%, this is a low risk and very dangerous if you sell them to buy back. Reduce too much, so think carefully before you want to sell or buy more.

if op sell it, it means he loss. If OP buy more with speculation and don't know what will happen with coin that he bought, he will loss more and more risk to do it. It is true better to hold, or maybe if have more spare money, change other coin to back up it.

Sometimes we would really feel that hardship on having decisions when we saw an possible opportunity to make profits when we do see the price had dip and thinking of that if we buy cheaper coins we can make money if it recovers but the question or doubts will always remain because theres no certain thing that it will definitely recover or die forever.

That is why trading is actually very complex, all decision must picked by technical analyze and not only with luck. But trader now think trading is easy thing, they only need to hold their money when stuck in a coin.

The dips are pretty normal so handling it with patience and back up strategy is the best thing to do. These are some tips I usually use every time I experience some dip in my coins.

1.) Always set your goal and wouldn't do anything or sell anything unless it's fulfilled.
2.) Do your homework, because sometimes holding it longer will just let your loss go bigger.
3.) If you are confident with the coin you recently traded then don't look at the prince unless you wanted to sell it.
4.) Set your limits in each coin you are currently holding, if the dip was severe it is probably better to sell than let it go out of your boundary.

10-20% on cryptomarket is just normal but for those who just recently invest in would really panic for sure but for long term holders of their coins then they can sustain such pressure.

You will get used to it, you just need to spend enough time on the crypto market. It is individual, but beginners checking the
charts like every minute. Later on when you get experienced there is no need for that,  only if you are a day trader  and scalping

How do you deal with 20% plus drops. Do you try to sell at the top and buy back in? are you a hold on for dear lifer?

No, I don't try to sell at the lower price that still happen now. I only wait for the price to bounce back in the other day because if I did this, I could not make any profit. I will hold no matter how long it is because I am sure that in someday, the market will rise again and the crypto will increase and reach the highest price. But we need to be patient because it will not happen in one night and this year is the bad year for the cryptocurrency.
No one should even be selling at lower price as anyone doing this obviously has shown the less understanding of the crypto space and how market should always be. Dips and corrections are normal and what we have right now is even a healthy one, so I do not see why people should always be worried about something they should not even be bothered about.

If it is about worrying, those who have been holding since the onset and still holding till date will not have done so if they are so concerned about the short term, but the fact that they have been able to see the benefit the market brings in the future, it has helped them to focus more on things that are important.

Then we need to stop worrying and don't think about the coin because this will give effect to our mind. But I realize that many people still cannot stop worrying about what happened in the market, and they still asked when this will end and when the price can increase again. I guess that they need to be calm down for a while and if it's necessary, then I will suggest to them to leave the market and enjoy their life.

Worrying will cause the bad decision in the trading, and we cannot make any profit at all. Besides that, we cannot think the right decision and only makes another mistake. I don't want to do this and I still trying to calm down myself in bad situations.
I think when an investor wants to buy Altcoins while the market dips, they just want to buy Altcoins at the lowest price but it is hard to predict. Investors can count on the market to recover and can take advantage when the price reverses. Investors are more likely to make a large return on investment using this strategy.

Hodl just until the coin goes up again, because with this one-on-one way so your money is not lost. if you are in Stoploss in a minus estimate then your money will be completely lost.

but different if you have patience in Hodl, until your coin up with his own. Surely you will experience profit.
Of course it's not just the stomach that shakes because of the dips but also your head will become dizzy seeing the assets you have depreciated, you're right maybe the solution is to holding it. you won't lose anything if you want to be patient and hold for a long time..
This is not something unique to this market, everyone that has become a trader knows that when you are trading you're going to get very nervous about what is happening in the market, it doesn't matter if the result is positive or negative, but as soon as it becomes very clear that the result is negative and it's not going to change traders go through a lot of emotions, that is why the mental aspect of trading is critical to become successful.

Hold it if you are do long term trading. For day trading you should be use stop loss after bought any coin, and the stop loss level about 5% to 7% and take profit about 10% to 50%, for situation of crypto market now, doing day trading look more profitable because some altcoin was push from the bottom.
Normally, stomaching a dip will always depend on your perception to the dip and the nature of the market in the long term and in the short term. Those who put so much of their attention on the short term are always prone to not see the dip as something they should not be bothered about and should indeed be taking advantage of but because they are so much looking at what is it they are not getting shortly from the market, the lose sight of the long term at the end of the day and that indeed is very bad. If you cannot learn how to trade and be ready to do it effectively, then the best simple thing to do as you said is to hold.
