HARDwork reporting day in and day out and have some thick skin because you are going to have all kinds of accusations thrown at you.

I wouldn't have thought having the same opinions as theymos would influence the decision making process. It shouldn't matter if they have differences of opinion on forum rules, Bitcoin or disagreed with theymos decisions.

As long as they follow the forums guidelines and have a good understanding of the forums policies there shouldn't be a problem.

but it's the reports against non-newbs that can take awhile so I think more Globals and/or specific sub-forum mods are desperately needed.
Yeah, I don't find this hard to believe. While patrollers are all good and dandy as a lot of reports are on newbies, there is still a massive amount of reports that can only be dealt with by staff who have duties other than patrolling.

Do you have to report a ton of posts?

Do you have to apply?

Are you just selectively chosen?

I see a lot of staff members who are less then a year old here on the forums and only have a couple hundred posts and you see people with thousands of posts, long time trustworthy members and not staff status or ever mentioned being offered such. Just wondering how they are chosen? For example:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/mitzie-210680

has been here for a year and only 600 posts. Yet staff already??

You have simply to be helpful and I'am pretty sure that the Administrators (BadBear & Theymos) will notice you Smiley by being helpful means help people and answer their question and report posts etc ...

They get paid. A lot. Its a decent title to have I'd say.

The amount you get paid reflects how much time/effort you put in. There's only a few mods that get over 1btc per month and those are ones who handle a lot of reports. The majority of others pretty much earn less or around the same as a decent paying signature campaign but it's a nice bonus regardless and I appreciate it.

Looks like hilariousandco has set a new standard and you would probably need to report beyond 1000 posts. seems the forum doesnt need any new moderators though as they seem to be doing pretty good. I dont think there will be any new moderators unless its for local boards.

Not necessarily. There is no specific number of reports that once it's hit you'll immediately get asked to become a mod, but it makes sense if someone is reporting so much with a high accuracy but there are likely also other factors incolved than just reports (though reports is likely the biggest influence). As for more mods I think there's enough patrollers and oftentimes the reports are handled before I even get the chance to click on them, but it's the reports against non-newbs that can take awhile so I think more Globals and/or specific sub-forum mods are desperately needed.

Is it not time to update the list of reports then?
People have asked for it already in the past.

I can see all of a user's reports, but I can't generate reports like that on the fly.
So theymos is the only one who can do that?
I'm sure he is a very busy man, but since it is 'on the fly' can't he do it once again? It's been a long time since that list was published.

Yes, I also want to see, how many people are ahead on me. I did lot's of reports and mostly accurate. But mostly reports from market section becaue I am very active on market. May be that's why it's not consider high quality.

We get paid but I wouldn't say a lot.

About 25% of ad income goes to the forum moderators as thanks for all of their work. (There are many moderators, so each moderator gets only a small amount -- moderators should be seen as volunteers, not employees.)

AFAIK only mods with direct access to the database can query it so the stats are easily generated. IIRC sirius and probably satoshi have DB access as well, yet they are ... uhm... even busier than theymos.

While I keep asking for an update I perfectly understand that the priorities are on different subjects.

And yes. Mod ain't really fun, you should only want to go for it if you're passionate about it...though 95% of people who desperately want mod read warnings like this and disregard them thinking it's fun. After owning a MC server for quite some time I can testify you get to deal with a lot of idiots. You can probably see that from the Meta section, too.

Indeed, I used to be part of an admin team on several TF2 servers. When you think youll have a fun night with some good friends a bunch of idiots show up. The worst part is that you know how it will end for the majority, yet you still have to go through the warning stages. And after 15-60 minutes finally filing the ban reports in the database your friends played the match without you. It was still worth it though, servers (as well as boards) need someone (or better a team) to take care of them.

Are they?

As BadBear said reports are not everything. There has to be demand first of all.

I'm not. Wrong guy. I only have 158 reports with 95% accuracy myself.

And I don't know how much they each get paid exactly, so I wouldn't say that - it doesn't concern me so I don't check the blockchain to see it. It's based on your activity moderating though, you can't just sit back. I think 30% of the BTC brought in from advertising is distributed based on activity? Not sure.

And note: That list is from July 2014.

Don't apply for mod (unless you're going for local boards, I guess). Applying for mod usually makes it seem like you want mod for the wrong intentions. Not all staff are "moderators" of boards, either, some like hilariousandco with a very large amount of reports are patrollers who can perform moderation actions on posts by Newbies (viewable at the patrol page).

You have to be willing and capable of reviewing user thread reports, clean up forum mistakes/software issues, for little to no reward, without bias, using all of your free time, and be willing to make anonymous stupid people all over the world hate you. It's a shitty job. You shouldn't want it.

Good report history, posts and actions that show you understand forum policy, activity (and when you are active could also play a part in it, mods at certain times could be more needed than others), etc. Being a good poster or trustworthy doesn't mean one would make a good moderator.

Finding mods for foreign language boards presents unique challenges, so there's no real set way to go about that. Sometimes it's by polls, sometimes it's just because a certain person has expressed an interest in moderating the board (either by their actions, or by "applying"), etc. It tends to be a more community driven decision, because acting like you know someone because you used google translate on their posts is dumb (though foreign language mods do need to be able to communicate with us in english).

I ever try to report post but it still said : You have reported 0 posts with 0% accuracy

Was it being calculated by system or by moderator ?

You have no reports logged.
