I ever try to report post but it still said : You have reported 0 posts with 0% accuracy

Was it being calculated by system or by moderator ?

Did you press submit? Whenever you report a post the number of reported posts will go up, but the percentage will only change when a report has been handled. However, it sounds to me like you haven't  pressed "Report to moderator" but, haven't pressed submit on the page which follows. It's below the input box.

to be staff looks like you need 4 digit reports which would take you months and months of dedication hilariousandco did it in a few months and was made moderator right away.

Do you have to report a ton of posts?

Do you have to apply?

Are you just selectively chosen?

I see a lot of staff members who are less then a year old here on the forums and only have a couple hundred posts and you see people with thousands of posts, long time trustworthy members and not staff status or ever mentioned being offered such. Just wondering how they are chosen? For example:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/mitzie-210680

has been here for a year and only 600 posts. Yet staff already??

Do you have to report a ton of posts?

In general, yes.

Do you have to apply?

No and I think this is generally considered a bad idea to do so, though maybe that changed with Mitchell aka bitcoininformation (but see my point about local mods below).

Are you just selectively chosen?

If you report a lot of posts accurately and display a good understanding of the rules and are a very active community member this will greatly increase your chances of getting asked.

It's certainly seemingly easier to become a local mod ie one of the local language board mods such as Mitzie is (though not discrediting him for that), though again this depends on other factors like how active a person is and how much a mod is needed for that specific section.

I became a moderator because PsychoticBoy quit and there was nobody assigned to moderate the Dutch subsection. I sent theymos a message in which I applied for that spot and got it.

Good report history, posts and actions that show you understand forum policy, activity (and when you are active could also play a part in it, mods at certain times could be more needed than others), etc. Being a good poster or trustworthy doesn't mean one would make a good moderator.

Finding mods for foreign language boards presents unique challenges, so there's no real set way to go about that. Sometimes it's by polls, sometimes it's just because a certain person has expressed an interest in moderating the board (either by their actions, or by "applying"), etc. It tends to be a more community driven decision, because acting like you know someone because you used google translate on their posts is dumb (though foreign language mods do need to be able to communicate with us in english).

Having lots of posts or being a prolific trader does not necessarily make someone a good choice to be a staff member. Reports are probably an important factor in being chosen, but I would guess the administration also looks for other characteristics one needs to be a good moderator, such as impartiality and maturity. These take longer to ascertain, but it isn't that unusual that there are staff who have been around for less than a year, I'm sure they were chosen for a good reason.

If you're curious, here is a list of the most active reporters from July of this year, as you can see, most of those near the top are now staff:

In case anyone's interested, here are the people with the most good reports:

I believe that theymos chooses who the moderators are. It is partially chosen by the number of reports they make, however I believe there is other criteria as well (not really sure what it is).

I think you have a somewhat greater chance of becoming staff if you are active in one of the local boards which the person you are referring to is a moderator of
