Buy the Mullvad VPN (or similar) with Bitcoin or cash in the mail.
Use the VPN to buy your domain and hosting. Have a look at orangewebsite or PeriQ.

It is quite easy to be  the anonymous owner of a website nowadays.
There are several websites which allow to register domains and get hosting packages without revealing any of your personal informations.

Here are some of the best ones I tried:

http://best-privacy.com/
https://www.orangewebsite.com/
http://www.geniushost.in/

The first one is the best in my opinion, but it is quite expensive.
The 3rd one is nice, but unfortunately it doesn't accept BTC ( unlike the other two ) .
So I suggest you to use the 2nd one. It is very reliable and it's very good if you want to run a blog.

I would think it'd be really easy

On PayPal, I hadn't given anyone my real name ever. they just knew my business name

Found here. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-did-satoshi-register-bitcoinorg-103369.

bitcoin.org was originally owned by Satoshi. He registered it through https://www.anonymousspeech.com

The website theymos mentioned provide anonymous domain registration and hosting. Another plus is that it also provide anonymous email.
An anonymous hosting service that allows you to register under a pseudonym and without providing a postal address Huh

Only thing needed for perfection would be payment in BTC.

Also a hidden service would be an option, but would only accessible using Tor

I dont know if they have a Tor-based website but I do know that they accept Bitcoin. If you look at the right sidebar, there is an update which titled "Bitcoin Payments".

From here, https://www.anonymousspeech.com/anonymous_payment.aspx#bitcoin.

AnonymousSpeech.com recommends Bitcoin payments. If you do not have Bitcoins yet you can purchase them here. We also offer an additional 5% discount for all payments done in Bitcoin.

Once you are using Bitcoin we guarantee you will love it! Fast, secure, and no fees at all. We know that it takes time for this mindshift for each and one of our customers, but once you have done it you do not want to switch back, ever!!!
very interesting... so having a website with them using TOR to access the site and using BTC would be sufficient ?

Rates for an anonymous site are pretty expensive.
40 EUR for a dot com domain
30 EUR for shared-linux server per month!  No DDOS protectoin and only 1 SQL database.
Yikes!

A friend said  simplest and best way to eliminate many of these things being used to identify you is

Don't register a domain or pay for hosting at all. Instead, register with a free blogging platform such as Tumblr or WordPress.com

Is this true?

That takes away some of the flexibility and is different for each case so it's up to you. Look up the ToS of each service, their registration process etc. Do you trust the provides with the required info you should give for registering? Would your blog's views be in agreement with their ToS?
I don't think i will be in a communist countries best interest, and a few radical groups wont like me so its not about the TOS it's about anonymous.

I'd like to create a website with a very radical political message. It won't be unethical (encouraging violence, etc) but I feel the points I plan to list in it will definitely make me a lot of enemies.

How hard would it be to protect my identity from anyone finding out who I am? I know domains always have a $10/year option for privatizing your registration information but is there any other protection I should think about having?

It's against TOS to leave false WHOIS information, so the best way your opponents can attack you is by taking the domain down.

Always use the $10/year privacy service, then everyone cannot see you've left false information.

Then feel free to enter all fake info, and use a proxy while doing it, and whenever you update your website.

I know a dude in Kansas who used 123 Elm St. as his address when he registered his domain names (plural).
What country is the proxy best to not to get caught....what countries are in chaos that have proxies? I mean its still traceable from who ever owns the nodes sooo....

It's not a much of country or provider issue. You should not use false whois info because whoever's against your cause or simply has malicious intentions could target you more easily. Unless of course you're willing to use .gr, where no information about owners are disclosed. I think that must be the only country tld doing this.

Here's an idea. Try to do it has anonymous as possible, leaving Easter eggs so it looks like it stemmed from elsewhere, say some BFL exec.  Grin
Your misleading easter egg idea is pretty good
