It's hard to calculate but i think a lot (maybe 15-25% of current supply). When people didn't know it's real value and mined it just for fun.

I heard before from a similiar amount of lost coins (approx. 2-3 millions). There was a research by a blockchain company (do not remember the name) some time ago about the issue. But I can not really consider it as "research" because it considered all coins which haven't been transferred for a specific time as lost.

I think bitcoin is like the cash, you will lost it if you didn't take care of it.

So, I think the number of lost bitcoin will continue rise if we just ask them to buy and not teach them to how to store it correctly.

My guess is that every day people loose bitcoins. And the amount of lost bitcoins is about 1.000.000 btc in total

I have a feeling that the unconfirmed transactions those amounts are lost forever?please correct me someone if i am not correct

That's what I thought as well.  I don't know how many are gone forever, but, I can assure you that at least .5 BTC is.  My best friends mom lost hers (misplaced her private key).

A few said it before: no one knows.

I think that 20 % could be possible.

1. In the beginning the coins were pretty worthless, so no one cared about storing them correctly

2. A lot of people (like myself) often lose a key or a stick gets damaged, there are for sure also some lost
   paper wallets.

3. In the future the number will of course grow, because there will be more transactions and more
people involved in the business. More people more mistakes and losses.

I think there are a few of them. Lots of ppl used faucets to gain a few, the they stoped because they where "hard" to make and forgot their passwords. So there could be a nice sun of btc lost there.
