but get 1000 bitcoins just to be safe

I think 1000 is so safe that you may earn more by this amount.

How have you to come to the conclusion of 1000 bitcoins. Can you please explain your calculation Tongue

I could help here it would be quite simple if we assume that we want/need between $500,000 to $1,000,000 for retirement in a cheaper country, then we need it to go to $1000 to have a million or obviously half we would have $500k. I don't think we would see them prices but i am mr negative so i would want a good 2-3k bitcoins for retirement which i am nowhere near lol

That is an astonishing lack of vision. The point is of course that we expect bitcoin to appreciate, and who knows how much it can buy in 20 years. You are just talking about what someone needs now, expressed in the current value of a bitcoin.

Not only a lack of vision, but a lack of reading comprehension, a lack of critical thinking, and a lack of arithmetic ability (not even qualified to be mathematical ability).

LoL. How did this guy find out about bitcoin? LoL

I wish there was a nice retirement/ hedge fund for all Bitcoiners to take part in. I would put say between 10/155 percent of my investment portfolio if there was such a thing. I know Wall St were going to enter the Bitcoinsphere but not sure if that has happened. Any light on that at all?

Just to re-iterate, Bitcoin is extremely volatile. Do not place all your investment eggs in one basket. Diversify as much as possible.. i understand the anti-government sentiment and all that, but they are here to stay and so are banks. Bitcoin is a risky venture and should be treated as such... do not invest more in Bitcoin than you could afford to lose... think of it like a penny stock, tomorrow this penny stock could boom and get you a few $100 (only this penny stock is under-valued imo). Diversify your investment into Stocks, Gold, Mutual Funds, Collectibles, Retirement Funds, Real Estate, Fixed Deposits and Bitcoin. Keep a larger share of your investment is all other asset classes and treat Bitcoin like the afore-mentioned penny stock, which means, throw money at Bitcoin that you can afford to lose and which you have already written off and even if it crashes to the ground, you will not have lost too much. The upside potential is huge though, and you could get rich eventually, but Bitcoin is not for the faint of heart.  Grin My 2 satoshi!!

Lets say I want to buy bitcoins today and store them for 20 years to use a my retirement fund.  Live comfortably, but don't need to buy a yacht or anything.  How many do you think I would need to buy?
Probably over a million but there is a slight chance 10-100 bitcoins would be enough.

So for arguments sake OP needs $1m to retire. You think Bitcoin will more than likely be $1 per coin??

I believe like a lot of people here it will either die and something else will eventually take its place or it will be the biggest shift in wealth we are ever likely to see and people will only be commonly talking about fractions or a Bitcoin as not many will hold a full Bitcoin.

It's 50/50 really IMO

dunno why people quote the 10k/per coin figure as some sort of a holy grail. Not enough. I wouldn't be satisfied with less than 30k/coin

because 100 btc for 10k result in a good amount to retire, it makes a good equilibrium, 100 btc are not impossible to achieve(i'm speaking for a poor people that start now to collect bitcoin, not a rich guy...), and 10k have the same chance to be reached

But like it has been pointed out, 100 BTC "for poor people" is only achiveable if we stay in the current price for a long time, at least 5 years. If we are 5 years at 1k+, then its impossible to amass 100.

well we already more than 1 year at current value, they should have amassed 20 btc at least by now, the price should stay the same for at least another year, until the halving or near it, they have time for 50 btc, should be enough for plenty of poors people, if btc skyrocket in the future...

Of course bitcoin will be skyrocketing in the future because if one thing become rare the price is so more higher than what you expected and I hope that must be bitcoins because Im that poor people collecting bitcoins now and hope for a miracle come down to me Grin

Yes absolutely right. He is coming to the final number taking the net present worth of a Bitocin and that is not right as after 20 years what will be actual worth of a bitcoin noone kows. If somehow we can predict then even I will sell everything and invest in Bitcoin. Smiley

Government only give in form of pension as it thinks is necessary for your survival. It will not cover the luxuries you are talking about. For that you will have to have a solid source of income.

What are you talking about, the pension system is a ponzi scheme, and it will be gone before you get to that age. If you dont setup a good income stream by then you will most likely be fucked because there will be no money left on the planet to pay for all this debt/expenses.

Don't worry then you are doomed and you don't have to do anything. Your creditor will do everything. But You can hide or run. Wink Smiley

Why do ppl want to be uber rich? yes, we all want that but if you can buy a new house+car, you're life has improved big time. Ore if you can work from full-time to part-time, that will be very sweet.

Dont be to greedy Bitcoiners!

1k bitcoin is a bit too much to earn now, maybe before, when difficult was lower, and altcoin were profitable, right now it's impossible to earn such amount

better to aim at the 10-100 range and hoping for 10k value in the future
