There are 6 cats in the picture. The one on the right has one more little cat that is not looking in the camera so it is unnoticed.So there are a total of 5 grown cats and 1 mitten.

It's either 5 or 6 cats, since the last one looks like two, and the b&w is likely to be one cat with a huge tail
