All these languages na kznguat wey no fit forget even if we try to abandonam and speak only English. It has become our Lingua Franca do tey every where we go,we go dey speak this language, and we go dey continue to make other people know say this thing na wetin be our own.
We are Nigerias, and our language no go fit change nomatter how we try to changam.People wey really dey in position of the change no go fit doam despite the pressure dem put to try changam.
Our language, our culture, our heritage is what they can't changed, and nothing anybody can do about that.

This topic wey you write, I been expect say e suppose dey for pidgin English, I mean the title. Something like How many of us fit write well for our local languages. To dey honest with you, e dey hard many people to write pigin, let alone to write their local language. As Charles-Tim talk, him deh find it difficult to write or read pidgin because different version of pidgins dem dey.

No blame the OP as him start the topic with strong grammar wey we call English language, the problem be say our local board don dey too flooded with English writing and posting but I know say some piple just dey do things make e be say e different from some of us wey dey use pigin post, make una know say we no fit hide our mata as long as English language don flood this our local board outsiders must know wetin we took here, even if you no sabi use pigin post my broda na to try harder becos na our own language wey we get to use communicate outside from English.

We don de advocate for the board say make we de write more with pigin as e be say na the general language when every nija person fit speak well but e still get plenty people when no de fit use pigin write as e be say some of them don de used to normal good English.

The average English speaking man fit speak and write him English fluently without stress as e be say na wetin them know as their language right from when dem de small.

But when it comes to an average Nigerian, we know say most of us fit speak our Hausa, Igbo, yoruba or Efik well but when it comes to writing in those our local language eh, e de always de very difficult.

Like me eh, I fit speak my dialect well oh but when it comes to reading an article that is written in my dialect or even trying to write an article in my dialect eh, na suffer I go de suffer oh, I fit even manage read small for my local dialect but to fit write de hard me aswr.

how easy e de for you to fit read and write using your local dialect?

How we fit improve on being comfortable in the use of our local dialect?  I mean either reading or writing with it.

Omo, e no really easy o, e be like na one kind difficult something for me to do, even to speak my local dialect well self, I no fit, although I go dey try to dey read well pass to dey write, no be say I no fit write o but before I go finish write one sentence with my local language, I go gats to mixed am up with English, but how I wish say dey go put am compulsory for the whole school wey dey for our country to learn their local languages as a subject, e for really make sense and also be of help, but the problem be say, for each school different ethics dey come together or dey attend each school so e go dey really difficult to actualized that, if not na this suggestion for dey good, that means we go dey able to dey read and write for our local dialect, even if we no dey perfect but at least we for dey try.

I can speak my dialect well but I'm can't write it as perfect as I spoke it. Our local dialect is only useful among our ethnicity, so I don't see the important of learning how to write it

Answer to your first question (how easy it is):
Uhm...I'd say it's fairly easy for me — I can write (with correct spellings) and even punctuate properly.

Answer to your second question:
One has to learn to speak his/her dialect more often at home, have conversations with family members/relatives using that dialect. Also, asking questions about culture — the stories, folklores. Then try pondering on the pronunciation of words, the intonation, and their meaning.
Try to study your dialect!!!

Native language seems hard for people to express themselves in writing maybe because they are not used to it, but I think this should be a reason why we shouldn't use our local language which is pidgin to communicate in our local board. Let's emulate other people as they are communicating in their language in their local board. I think one of the reasons I prefer we using the pidgin English to communicate here it will make us to be more united more in the forum and for good expression too.

Me I like to use pidgin pass English take communicate because na for pidgin I dey fit express myself well easily. Both for furum and real life na pidgin I dey use pass, naim make majority  of my post na pidgin I use. Normally we supposed to encourage pidgin well well for this board, but no be everybody fit speak am to their full expression, naim make the best decision wey them make na to legalize pidgin and English for this local board so that problem no go dey. I no lie you, when it comes to reading your native for book, e dey very hard because no be wattin them teach us from small. If to say them teach us how to, I believe say we for dey chew like the wey we dey do with English.

We no go blam them, no be like say government approve make then dey teach individual language for school.
government allows local dialect to be thought in schools!

In my primary school, I learnt how to read and write using my local dialect and that is what helped me to become very familiar in the use of m dialect. I guess it's mostly in schools situated in the cities that local languages are no included in their curriculum.

You know that their are platforms online were people are paid to teach others certain languages and yo wouldn't know the importance of being fluent at your language until an opportunity like this comes and you find out u don't know shit.

In the World today, learn everything wearable cause you don't know where it might need it.

Even I say we improve on our local language, e no dey wise we come show am here, bacuse if go write post for my language, how many people go read my language understand am, talk less of to even reply. If na pidgin we fit speak, but no be every body sabi that one too. You know say the country get plenty people we no too sabi speak their language for this our 21st century pass before, cause many parents no too dey gree carry their children go villa, and this reason make many of them no identity with home, this fit also be the reason why many youths no sabi.
We no go blam them, no be like say government approve make then dey teach individual language for school.

OP, i wish i can fluently speak my language i would have been happy. Quite unfortunate i cant speak my language so how do i expect to write it. Lol  Cheesy. I guess am not the only one here who cant speak their local dialect. Anyone?

The ability to understand and speak your local dialect is so important that it can't be overemphasized, I mean, that's like your ID just incase you find yourself anywhere.
I can fluently speak my local dialect and if it were possible I'd also love to go learn how to speak other major local languages in Nigeria, because language has a force you cannot really understand

I dont think it is necessary to know how to write in our individual dialect because we have a general lingua franca which is the english language. Speaking our dialect is cool because it allows fluent communication between individuals from the same ethnicity.

99% of the population in our country do no write in their local dialect. This is because it is difficult to communicate with writing to people. It do not enhance communication so there is no essence for it.

I find it hard to read and post in Pidgins on this forum. Although, it is easy for me while chatting with friends online. But when it comes to this forum, I prefer English. I think it is because I read and write fast in English than Pidgin while this forum is not just a short conversion with my friend and me. If it is a long posts, I may not even finish reading it if it is in Pidgin, unlike English which is easy for me to read fast and clear.

English is easier because we were taught in school in English. Reading English from basic school to tertiary school takes decades. As we are growing, we noticed that we got better in English.

It is easy for me to speak my local language. Also easy for me to write my local language. But to read it is hard for me just like Pidgin. If it is conversation online with my friend and me, I find it easy for those short conversations. I even use with my local language to chart with people than they do with me. But if it is a long text, I will not even finish reading it as I find it difficult to read and that will make me slow to read it finish.

By virtue of my position as pidgin writer, senior man , I hereby release the anointing to write in pidgin for this board as from now on. As you dey write am, e go dey sweet your belle. Recieve that grace make u follow us enjoy the pidgin world. Welcome to our world of ogbonge language

So if you ask me, I would rise to say that.... This pidgin English language does not have a specifications of its words to words rightfully spelling. We Nigerians just love to make things quick and shorten to arrive at a point so because of that, most of the spelt words in English language are cutten short to minimize the stresses of longer words and we believe having a rightful spelling in the English language is wastes of alphabets.
So, we are just good in spelling the words on how ever we could as long it profers an expected meant words in pronounciations.
I guess you're getting the whole essence of the thread wrong or you didn't understand it.

I'm not talking about being able to write correctly in pigin. We all know that writing in pigin doesn't require a particular order or spelling guide. You do the writing which ever way you want and as long as the reader is able to comprehend what information you are passing, then you're good to go. That's the reason why we sometimes use slangs that could be peculiar to a particular region in our pigin and others might not understand but people close to that region and that are conscious of the street vibes will relate easily.

What I'm talking about is the ability to reading or writing in our native dialect like the one we speak in the village. It's always very difficult to read or write using them. For people that are Christians, you know they actually translated the Bible to our local dialect like the Huasa, Igbo, Yoruba and the rest and normally when you get to the village during festive seasons, they normally would ask you, like in my church to read the Bible for them since they believe that you can read, but because you've not been familiar with reading in your local dialect, you will tend to struggle with it.

There is every tendencies that each and every members in this Naija local forum would still have to participate on other forums which are strickly on English languages. I would keep saying this... Naija has no specific language instead it has diverses of language which English was adopted to be its unified language but due to a collective measure, series of the local diverse languages tends to be complied in mixture of the English language to the Pidgin English language so that it could be manageably fluent exercised at communications.
