For you to be able to avoid those scamming projects, you must be able to have enough knowledge first here in the cryptocurrency. There are a lot of investments here and one of the very common investments was investing to a project and waiting the project to reach he soft and hard cap of them then you will earn, but be aware of those scamming projects that is in the first they are good at paying but later on they will just be missing like a bubbles that will pop, and also don't be to much greed because one of the many reason why people get scammed is because of their greediness to earn.
This is indeed what often happens to investors who invest in new projects, where they lack understanding and are too greedy to get large profits and then when they start to be interested in investing in the project, the people behind the project take advantage of the opportunity to take it away the money they have gotten from funding.

Bookmarked! This is a great read and reference on how to avoid being scammed. I guess we should always spread awareness so that scammers will be lessen if not completely eliminated. We should continue this advocacy to restore the goodness of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.

I know it might sound cold but I have to admit that reading up on the sob stories of others tends to help me stay more grounded and coutious, there is a telegram group fully dedicated to this, they forward sob stories from all over telegram into the Channel, sometimes even twitter and other platforms, if there is anywhere on the internet where someone lost money through Cryptocurrencies and the victim posts about it, it would be forwarded in the channel, seeing the failures cost by FOMO  has made me a much more cautious investor.
The best way to learn is not from your own mistakes but the mistakes of others, this will save you time and money and this is true not only in the markets but in every aspect of our lives, so what you are doing is not cold it is just a very smart thing to do since many people come to this market with the desire of becoming rich and most of the time the opposite happens to them, and this should be a lesson to all of us there is not really a fast path to becoming rich, if you want that to happen to you then you need to work really hard for it.
But there are also ways to not get scammed even if you are not commiting mistakes. Always play safe when it comes to making investments, if you want to multiply your capital then you must first protect it. Scam projects are keep increasing and you must identify the project that you are going to make investment if it is legit or a shit project that can take your money away.
You don't have to worry about me, long time ago I discovered that the only way in which you could protect yourself completely from scammers is to not invest any amount of money in new projects, I know that I'm missing some good opportunities to make money but I am also missing investing in all of those scam projects and that to me is a fair trade, unfortunately many people are going to take their chances in those projects and after a few months they are going to lament to not take my posture.
I agree that trading is the fairest way to reduce risk. new projects are many fraudulent projects, so that they can use up the funds we have. trading on top ranking coins on the coin marketcap can be an option, and we must learn to fundamentally and technically

will only strengthen your vigilance but actually reduce your confidence. I have done it and really increase my fear to be involved in anything, at that time there was a negative case about btc-e and cryptopia and I didn't even dare to register in any particular exchange anymore, it was an example for market exchange, for investment stories many other effects.

I try to be more insightful by reading positive reviews from well-known articles, communicating with investors who are more sensitive in analyzing business, and avoiding unclear investments, automatically everything that is in my mind is more comfortable, it's better not to know too many sad things from the victims.

That is very clever of you to use telegram in your favor and keep yourself updated with the latest frauds. People must understand the importance of their online safety first. Only then they can make beneficial moves like you. The biggest problem with users is that they show a careless attitude towards most of online activities. Crypto currencies are a hot topic for everyone, which includes scammers so cautions are required.
indeed not all investors in the crypto world experience success, a good idea for those who fail to tell their experiences so that they can be read by many people and we can review so as not to make mistakes like that. at least it can be learned by many people

I believe that every good lesson starts with a good story and on this note, I want to tell you about the experience I had that made me cautious of "Get rich quick" schemes online especially those pertaining to Cryptocurrencies.

I discovered Bitcoin in early 2013 and although I didn't take it seriously at first, I was earning little money from it doing tasks online (pay for view, faucets and such), I took it more as a hobby and never intended on selling the bitcoin, I just knew in my heart that it would do great so I wanted to accumulate as much as possible without having to spend my money buying it (this was before I got into mining), fast forward to 2015 when the money doubling schemes were everywhere, I kept seeing adverts online and even though I knew better, I decided to invest in one of them (Avabitcoin) with the coins I got from my early days of discovering bitcoin, Avabitcoin was a platform where you invest bitcoin and they supposedly invest it and return profits to you on a daily basis, I decided to take the risk and invested for the first day, got back my money plus 12% profit, and greed overtook me and I did kept doing it for 2 more weeks before they vanished with my funds. I kept going all in even when I had already doubled my money.

If you want to avoid getting scammed online, you just have to follow the following:

Greed: Greed has led a lot of people straight to rekt, like my story above would have told you, I couldn't resist the pull of greed even when I had doubled my funds.

HYIPs: When it looks too good to be true, then it's probably too good to be true, when you see any investments that promise high yield returns, please stay far away from them, when you see genuine projects that offers returns, most of their returns are so low, some of them are average of 10% per annum and it's a wonder that we see platforms offering 10% and above in a day and we gladly jump straight into rekt, like I said, if it sounds too good to be true, then it's too good to be true.

FOMO: If not for the hype that Avabitcoin generated, I would not have invested in it in 2015, learn how to DYOR and avoid what others have to say about projects they seem to support, infact your mindset should be that everybody is trying to rip you off so if you always look at every hyped project with that mindset, you would have a clearer picture of the project without the blindfold of FOMO.

Rushing: Avoid rushing into any investment because you heard it's paying others, one of the virtues of a Cryptocurrency investor is patience, Cryptocurrency investments are high risk investments and you have to treat it like gambling, never invest more than you can afford to lose, never go all in on any project no matter how good it looks.

EDIT:
Click on random websites: Many airdrop websites you see these days asking for personal details are fake and many of them are just clever ways to steal your private details and use it to steal your funds, be careful of the links you click and if possible, bookmark your sensitive websites (the ones that need private information like private keys and passwords) so that you wouldn't fall for a clone website.

Use new wallets: We can all remember the recent incident that happened with satowallet where the wallet stopped working and users lost a sizable amount of funds, we should stick to the existing and trusted wallets instead of just jumping into any random wallets swe see online, many of them don't have your best interest at heart.

Repeat Passwords:  I was just surfing through the forum a few minutes ago and saw a post where a guy managed to hack an ICO website and contacted the admins and the admins just don't care, never repeat passwords in two websites so that if a hacker manages to get their hands on one of your passwords, they would not be able to affect your funds in other platforms.

Quote
Please try to include telegram scams on your list, they are trending big now and almost all newbies from india have fall victim to this scam tricks, scammers steal project teams image and use a near identity name too, for example a legit project team member can  go by @fisher as the username and scammers will change the name to @flsher with same profile image to give you good offer, if you don't check very well you will think its legit.

If you have any similar experience, please kindly share it, it might help others (especially the newbies to avoid being scammed by shady projects out there and if I see good suggestions, I would edit this post and add them as well.

Seen some awesome answers and I would be adding them soon, keep the suggestions coming.

thats a great reading..
as i said to a friend of mine few days ago: "the best lessons i got in life were when i lost everything"
i see that you also learned few leasons from your own mistakes and from mistakes of others too
i also learned that we should stay as we are and keep trying even if something terrible happened, because every successful/rich person had the moment of "losing everything" once or multiple times.
the only difference between the people is: one stays and one leaves

thank you for the insparation

All great advice to avoid being scammed as there are many different types of scams out there and hacking methods used to fleece investors of their capital so be very vigilant and, always check to ensure you're using reputable exchanges, secure wallets and individual details for each account to minimize loss
Make sure to learn all the advance securities that you can provide to your accounts / wallets as there's always new things that this hackers/scammers will use in order to penetrate to your assets. If you do performed routine studies and not to relax each but to ensure that you are well aware to anything that happened inside this industry, then the chance of being victimized is slim. Better than doing nothing and find yourself inside the shoes of those victims.
I often read articles or write-ups to avoid hackers and it's very useful for me to secure my assets. And also i always be careful when logging in, registering to a website or when downloading files i usually check first whether the file contains a virus or not

same here  . reading really helps to increase our knowledge  . now i dont yet experienced to get hacked but some of my friends  did get hacked because they are still lack some technical knowledge . i did once  suggest them that add 2fa's on thier account but they dont listen to me . i guess that is thier fault anymore because they are sometimes hard headed or lazy but once they got hacked they will just complain and blame the owner of the wallet  .

The fact is i never invest in any new projects because i don't need to, old altcoins are better and safer and if i have to hold any new token or coin it will be from bounty projects, scammers are making money off innocent victims everyday so they are every where, i can change my mind only when regulation get approved
Unfortunately thats true, majority of new projects are just scam and making money by the naive investors who buy their too good to be true offer, sometimes investors are at fault for believing this kind of promises.

I also prefer to hold the old coins because they are already well established, and even you hold it for long period you wont get worried that it will lose its value and be delisted in exchanges.

The best way one can run away from getting scammed is by doing research to know the exact project to invest and to also know if team are up and doing like having updates on Thier soci handles, if they have working products, check their road map if they are following it sequentially or have done a bit up. If there are processes, just know it's a genuine coin to invest .
Investors have been doing something similar to that for years and it has not worked, scammers are simply too smart, they know what you're looking for and they can simulate all of those things and make it seem as if the project is any good when in fact they are trying to get your money, the only way in which you can protect yourself completely from being scammed is to avoid investing in icos, it is simply not realistic to think that you can do enough to avoid scammers when the market is full of them.

This is the easiest way to point out a scam project. The offers are a way too unrealistic and juicy. The promising words literally make the person feel like as he will miss the train to heaven and regret the mistake of not participating as long as he lives. Why would anyone become this generous to you? Even with a little common sense and self-control, a person can protect himself from all sort of losses.

This analysis are really correct especially the FOMO trap, i have lost in the past cause of FOMO but i learnt my lesson. Now I do a thorough research and study the whitpaper for days, i will rather invest more in Bitcoin than investing in an unverified new altcoin.

Doing a research is not an easy thing to do. Most of us here, including me, have some basic knowledge and we
make a basic research. We relay on some experts, if we know any, and their expertise. But as we know crypto-
currencies are new for everyone, experts just have more experience and probably some technical knowledge
for doing a deeper research.
Educating ourselves and people around can help us to not get scammed. But like always there are no guarantees
that you will not run into some perfect scam.

It's not enough to just do a research for a day, you really need time and effort as you cannot have a good observation and investigation in a limited time. You need to at least observe it in a week or so, also if in doubt because your mind tells you so, but your heart says that the team always there, seems so nice, they even conduct AMA, still better to follow your mind not your heart as your mind is much superior than your heart.
