I have thought of this topic because I don't invest much in altcoins, just trading it to profit. I'm talking about the one you will buy that you would HODL in the long term and keeping it in your cold wallet, hardware wallet, paper wallet, or whatever you do with it as long as you keep the currency itself.

The reasons I could think are the following:

  • You invest because of the Technology of the coin And what it could bring to the cryptocurrency space
  • You know the developers and supporting them
  • You believe you could profit in the long-term
  • Because of the Name of the coin. Lol.

I'm just wondering if there are other reasons that you may have and if you agree with the ones I listed. Share it here.
The only thing that makes me want to invest in altcoins is the ability to increase profits compared to BTC. Altcoins can bring much higher profit than BTC because their market capitalization is low, it is easy to pump many times in a day. But there are also certain risks when investing altcoins, and when investing altcoins you must accept that risk.

I rarely do that as most of these altcoins really turn out to be shit coins anyway until just recently a friend talked to be about Vechain, i have purchase some of their coins and i plan of holding them for a very long time and see how their project develops to bring more value to the tokens.

It is a mistake to choose a project based on the promises of developers to create this or that technology. Believe me, developers can promise you anything, but to create it is much more difficult. You need to invest in something that has already been created and is working or has a working sample. Investing in promises is very risky and stupid.

I do not have only one scheme of investing in cryptocurrency. I guess the first moment we must remember here about is the market waving, although it seems very simple to some people. It is evident that I do not invest in tokens and BTC when they are on the top. On the other hand, when I get extra money, it is invested in new and promising altcoins.

Like altcoins and invest in them more often than I should maybe Smiley
Usually prefer some strong coins that everybody knows. But also like some interesting small projects with unique ideas.

Looking the changes happening in the crypto market for the past months now, I don't see it as advisable to invest my Bitcoin into Altcoins. I prefer selling my altcoins for Bitcoin. Altcoins has the tendency to drop to about 20% causing a huge lose to investors.

Not at all often. Most especially at the present time of ICO that most of the ICO projects were turning out to be scam and fraud. Some was great in term of ideas in the whitepaper contents, but dumpers activities just keep spoiling prices.

A lots of time I've invested Bitcoin to altcoins. Furthermore I can still remember those name & their market price.
That's  because I've found them more profitable than Bitcoin.

The reasons was in your thread and that is "i could profit in the long-term" from those altcoins. That's why I keep them in my mew wallet. But this year, I've sold some of them due to dump market & unable to fulfill their aim...

I think in this year, I don't invest too many altcoins because I already did that in the last year. I am glad that in the last year, all of the altcoins have reached the bottom and I can buy a lot of the altcoin and this year, I tried to sell some of them. While I sell some of them, I still wait for the next bull run of the altcoin which I am sure it will happen soon. But I will think again if I can see the top 20 coins list can get down deeper, I will buy it again to add more coins in my wallet.

BTC $1 mln.
yes I agree with some of the criteria that you have mentioned, I more often observe how developers work on their projects, including the products and functions of the coins they develop. maybe that was one of the reasons I was interested in being invested with some potential altcoins.
I only make strong altcoin investments. bitcoin is more important in my investment. altcoin is only for daily trading or short-term investments. so I will not exchange bitcoin investment assets for altcoins.
From the moment Bitcoin dominance began to grow, I more often began to hear that many transfer their altcoins to BTC, but trade in altcoins. I agree, trading altcoins makes more profit than trading Bitcoin due to higher volatility. The price of some altcoins during the day can vary many times by several tens of percent, and I use it for profit and transfer to BTC.

Currently I am only interested in Ethereum. It is one of the best technology businesses I've ever known.
Their current ERC-20 platform is still very popular and ETH has made a lot of money from that.
And one of the reasons I hold ETH for the past 2 years is Vitalik's professionalism and strategy. he has led the whole business in the right direction and brought big profits every year.
I agree. besides Ethereum, I also invest in BNB, where I see from technical analysis, BNB has good prospects in the long run. besides that in terms of fundamentals, I think binance is a trusted exchanger at this time, of course new investors will choose an exchange that has been tested, because it is more reliable

The wonders of the blockchain technology
I would also buy alts to preserve the value of my coin- buying stablecoins. Ofcourse stablecoins are alts. Businesses would be better off using alts to complete trades rather than btc because it can fluntuate in value,  most times downward trend which can be huge losses for business that accepts btc.

But, funny as it may seem to you, it has to have a name as well.
Every coin has a name but what's funny to me is almost every coin name has been invented, including persons in the Biblical Story. Would people invest because they see "Jesus Coin"? I don't know if the developers are joking around about it or if they are believers. Sometimes, there are names not to be mocked or something like that.

I majorly invest because of the technology of the project and what people stand to gain from it. These days project team are not very sincere. they collect fund and don't carry out project development, making community to loss their trust.
This is probably the reason why the cryptocurrency space has been looking bad. The continuous developing of websites, whitepapers, marketing strategy, etc is going on full circles. It's continuous like that and people don't believe in ICO or anything related to "crowd-funding" etc.

And I believe for short term profit an IEO is the promising place at this time especially an IEO who launched by Binance exchange. Seems like this strategy is suitable for you, get profit from altcoin investment and the profit that you get you will store it to buying bitcoin.
I think having or participating in an IEO now wouldn't be so beneficial anymore, only the token holders could get most of the money from it. They could easily dump everything.

For long term investment im choose with the cheapest on 20 top coinmarketcap. And look also how the price and project going on by years to years. Probably im choose XLM,TRX and ADA for middle price im choose ETH.
Not bad, any coin in the CMC means they have volume and being traded, whether it's market-making or not, it's a good start when choosing. Are you putting it in a hardware wallet or something?

altcoin is good, but I prefer altcoin that is still 1 to 2 years old, usually an altcoin like this which has a huge advantage when it has been widely adopted by the public,
and also the project that already has yellowpaper, this is one of the projects that I am looking for, because the project has been running halfway through, different from the whitepaper which is still limited to the concept.

Considering the state of the crypto market now, I don't really think anyone is trading their Bitcoin to invest in altcoins. Me for instance, I will rather sell my altcoins for Bitcoin than trading my bitcoin for any altcoins. There are a lot of shitcoins in the altcoin ecosystem to even consider trading or investing in them.  For me, I don't invest my Bitcoin in altcoins.... I prefer Bitcoin can any other coin...

I am holding 50 % of my investments in Bitcoin and the other 50 % in altcoins. But for me Bitcoin is the most important. So I am sometimes investing in promising altcoins with a good team and community and sell the altcoin with profit to increase my bitcoin holdings.
Bitcoin should be the first place for everyone investment. I believe only bitcoin will give a huge profit either for short term investment or for long term investment. Different with altcoin, I don't know the potential of altcoin since the price only meet a decrease when bitcoin price meet a bull run a few weeks ago. And I believe for short term profit an IEO is the promising place at this time especially an IEO who launched by Binance exchange. Seems like this strategy is suitable for you, get profit from altcoin investment and the profit that you get you will store it to buying bitcoin.
