https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/what-does-airdrop-mean-2075741

If you read those topics and still don't get it, rephrase your question and i will try to help you

I also windering to know what airdrop is. Thank you for str1x.
But i think airdrop need wallet to receiv the token.

On my understanding about the airdrop is they giving a free coins to the participant, Because they going to promote their ICO.
After the airdrop the doing make a bounty campaign that need to participate it's because if they have a high value on when they doing a airdrop.

To make airdrop you usually need to call owner-only available function of your smart contract.
Of course, everything should be tested BEFORE your run your token to live.

Don't know how it works on "common" coins, but on ERC20 tokens it works so.
Read any popular smart contract to see the details. For example:

https://etherscan.io/address/0x6aac8cb9861e42bf8259f5abdc6ae3ae89909e11#code

Take a look at method distributeBTR (line 39)

Why is it that even after supplying your social accounts and MEW Wallet to partake in airdrop, one still never gets them?

There are airdrops that new projects offer. And yes, they need your wallet address for them to send the free tokens. And also, they would need some of your social media accounts to verify your account

Hi, all you need is a wallet address. Erc-20 compatible wallet. You can create one in myetherwallet.com. you can see lots of airdrops on twitter and here. Be cautious tho as some forms require private key. You must never give out your private key. Only your public key.

I think you need to do programming. You can see answer for example here:

Haha, thanks! Most of these talk about what is an airdrop or why it is used. I'm aware of what it is, but I was wondering how people conduct airdrops... if there is some kind of automated software that would put a coin/token into the wallets. But I just read and googled a bit, and now I'm more aware of how this exchange works.

BUT!!! now I'm super curious if there has been any successful airdrop campaigns. Do you know of any? Or do people usually now think that all airdropped coins are crap?

You can only choose to airdrop coins if you own a cryptocurrency and want to deploy it by hard forking another cryptocurrency.

Airdropping isn't something you choose to receive in the way you're explaining it. Airdrops happen when a hard fork is going to occur. The attacking blockchain needs to issue coins to those on the target blockchain so the attacker can ensure that coin holders have a currency to continue on with.

Almost all airdrop token use erc20 wallet, so i think don't use your exchanger wallet to keep your coins, you can use http://myetherwallet.com
keep all the key, and don't share your private key to other that can make your coin stolen
