No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small
It's easy, just don't gamble and control yourself, don't let your gambling addiction or urge within you affect your investment as we are talking about your possible future success here. With gambling, you can mess up your investment like withdrawing your money when it's not yet suppose to withdraw it.

if you feel you don't have the capacity to gamble, just never expose yourself in a gambling sites, maybe delete all your gambling accounts, you'll be safer that way.

Staying away from gambling is one of the hardest thing to do for those who use to play gambling everyday. You cannot stop gambling instantly because you brain may be damaged due to stress. The best thing that you need to have to stay away from gambling is self control. You need to decrease the budget you use in gambling slow until the budget comes to zero. You can also spend more time with your family so that you can completely forget about gambling. I hope you can stay away from gambling soon.

Winterlemon912 you gave a good advice to ThePatient! He need to think about limiting his funds, to try to
lower the time he spends gambling, that will require a self-control, he needs to work on that, steady and slow
and to think about it every day, and practice it!
I think he doesn't have to stay away from gambling for life! If he learns how to control himself, he can limit
his bankroll and gamble for fun with money he can spare, if he can't do that then it's better to quit gambling for
good!

I've been around the crypto scene since pre 2013 pump. Been around blackcoin pumps, pinkcoin pumps (all the color coin pumps), all the country-coin pumps (remember those?), every shitcoin known to man.

I even knew about ethereum (commented on page 4 or 5 on their announcement thread) and was a huge believer in the project. .....but instead of sending btc to their ICO site on a summer day in 2014, I sent it to nitrogen sports with the intention of making more btc to send to their ICO.

Throughout the years, I've done similar things with various alts: Monero, dark-coin (DASH), Cardano, you name it. I had them with hopes of holding onto them to watch their value grow...but couldn't...and gambled it away with 3AM challenger tennis, random soccer matches, or baseball over/unders (though, when I go on a binge, I actually start off pretty damn well, but get tilted the moment I lose a few times).

I'm a big believer in the crypto space but it's difficult for me to hold coins without gambling. The thing is, I have no issue controlling myself when I don't hold crypto. I could go to a casino or wherever and not have any urge to bet with fiat. Idk what it is about cryptocurrency. I just get so into certain coins that I want to make more so that I can get a bigger stack to hodl...but then by trying to get more the quick way, I lose it all.

Anyone feel similar?

How do you combat the urge to gamble with your cryptocurrency?

It is your money and whatever you do it is your decision. I have never had a chance of getting into big ICO's like Ethereum. If I had the opportunity I wouldn't have missed this opportunity. So the choice depends solely on you what you want to do with your money.

It was different times in late 2013/early 2014. While I was certainly a believer in the project, there were MANY people who viewed Ethereum's ICO (which remember, was still a very new thing) as a scam. Many people who knew about it, missed out.

How do you combat the urge to gamble with your cryptocurrency?

That would be easy to be resolved. It will be just about your self-control and setting your goal with regards to the usage of your cryptocurrencies in your life. Once you have already know your goal and have set the usage of your cryptocurrencies, then it would be easy for you to invest in cryptocurrency while staying away from gambling. Playing and engaging into gambling is a matter of choice. There is nothing wrong in playing gambling as long as you know your limitations and know how to handle your cryptocurrencies. If you are having problem holding your cryptocurrencies because you are being tempted to always play in gambling using your cryptocurrencies, then why not look for something you think is worthy to spend your cryptocurrencies with. It is like diverting your attention into something to somehow forget the other thing that you have a hard time managing about. Only you can totally help yourself with that problem. Again, there is nothing wrong on playing gambling using crypto as long as you know your limitations.

I feel it too sometimes but I can still control myself. It always felt different with crypto because you know the price of it may be bigger in the next month or years. You feel the greediness to get more to have more in the future. You invest in crypto but will always be tempted to try those coins in gambling instead of holding it for a very long time, you think that you should try your luck using it instead of letting it sit in your wallet, maybe it will double.

If you always lose an investment because of that, I think you should always think of your priority in investing. Try asking for help too. That trait is a symptom of gambling addiction. You may say that it is in crypto only but you should remember that crypto is a currency just like a fiat currency.

I agree in some comments that your problem is because you are failing in self-control and the disorderly way of how you handle your earnings. While gambling it is necessary to know when it is time to stop so as not to lose your capital. Luck and strategy go hand in hand with gambling, bet with caution.
If you want to avoid gambling altogether then heed my advice about dopamine detox. I like that you are investing for yourself but it is frustrating that you spend it on gambling, now I do not want you to ditch gambling altogether because trying to avoid something altogether then it will come back and bite you, the withdrawal stage is where the most struggle happen and I want you to avoid that because it can be avoided.

Now for my advice in dopamine detox, the first step is to understand that everything that gives exciting feeling is responsible for dopamine being released in the brain, addiction happens when our brain reaches a cap continously that when we are doing something mundane, we tend to feel that we need to do something. With the continous cap reach of dopamine, our body adapts and becomes bigger and we are tricked by our brain to do more of the fun things (i.e. Gambling, sex, video games, drugs), and in turn we become a prisoner of our own desire and vices.

To do dopamine detox, you need to have a self-control and a strong support network altogether, without support network, this will be difficult. The first you have to do is do your usual routine including the gambling, and dedicate a time where you are doing nothing exciting, do mundane things, then gradually increase the days that you do these things until you can do a week, this helps in flushing the dopamine in your body. These will build habit and in turn make you naturally avoid gambling. Other thing that you can do is do something that can replace the gambling habit, swtch a workout routine to the time that you are gambling. You have the investments already, having a good life is not too far for you. Good luck

control your desires, that's it...
Sometimes your desire to get more coins are the reason why you lost most or worse all of them.

Greediness and desire. 2 words but it can change everything especially when you are holding huge amounts of crypto coins. You can invest in crypto and not to gamble as long as you don't have these 2 words. These are just 2 words but it can make your life miserable. Worse is that most of the gamblers are using their coins that they are holding into gambling and if they lost they will regret. Change your mindset and invest into crypto "ONLY". Invest only and don't gamble at all

When we lost control over our mind, we will not think clear of what is going on in around us, and we tend to act spontaneity without thinking much. And in gambling, when you lose control, you will be anger, you want to recover the money that you lost with playing more and more. Without we know how much the money that we would use in gambling, we will get the big losses and that is a matter of time that will come to us. Yes, we need to be careful when we gamble because that is the only way that we must know, so there is no bad thing that will happen to us.

Your problem is in fact very common, casinos have known for a very long time that people have problems gambling away their money this is why you need to convert your money to chips in the casino, even if you are still holding the very same amount of money the fact that you are now holding casino chips makes you way more likely to gamble a lot more than what you should, so it seems to me that your problem is that you do not really see cryptocurrencies in the same way that you see your fiat and that is why you keep gambling it away, in my opinion you should always think of the value in fiat of your crypto holdings so this does not happen to you again.
The fiat value of chips ≠ Cash value. The volatile crypto market and the untrustworthy fundamentals of gambling finance make it hard to stake or hold the casino balance online, I prefer to split my holdings and the casino altcoins should remain less than 10% of altcoin portfolio. Spending less or more or gambling the rest of funds can be linked to unstable psychological issues, no need to blame the decentralized gambling industry, IMHO.

Am I not misreading this topic.

Topic: How to be invested in Crypto while staying away from gambling?

Honestly, I can't separate investment and gambling, instead I get a portion of the profits I get from gambling to invest in leading cryptos.
For now gambling and investing is still one thing that is required for me "gambling vs investing".

There are other things that are more interesting to me, experience, I've used two things.
-I have also used investment returns to gamble.
-And gambling results I have also used for investment.
So those two elements have something to do with me. Other people I don't know how he uses both.

For me, you are lacking of self control. I can say to myself that I don't have self control if I'm holding coins but I'm using it on gambling. Your experience is quite unusual though for me. I think the best thing to do is to change your way of thinking about crypto and gambling. Getting crypto in a quick way will definitely lead you to gambling since it is the quickest way. Change your thinking on how to get more crypto. Its just your mindset that is the problem. Your way of thinking about crypto must be changed so that even though you have huge amount of crypto coins, you will not be urged to gamble it all.

control your desires, that's it...

That's definitely not it

When you think you can or do actually control your desires, that's most certainly an instance of self-deception. How come? Because it is your desires that are controlling you most of the time. Indeed, you can do something against what you want deep down inside, deliberately and consciously, but you will feel pretty ugly like doing something which is against your nature even if what you did or did not was the right thing to do or not to do. The takeaway is that fighting your inner demons in the open is a losing battle as you simply can't win

Sometimes, when people invest in something, they have goals that they want to achieve. But as time goes by, they see their investment value become bigger and the time to close their investment comes, but they don't close it right away because they want to make more profit than what they have now. That makes them cannot see what is in their face because they become greedy to get more and more. They lose their control because greed, they lose their goals to achieve, and they lose their investment profit.

If you want to invest in crypto, you need to know which coin you want to buy and invest, so you don't pick the wrong coin. Research the coin is a must thing before you buy the coin because that can help you to determine the right coin.

Thank you for sharing that story. I always long to read stories like this so that I can learn from your experiences. You are struggling whenever you hold crypto but not with fiat. I think what you need to do is to take a deep sigh first of realization. And then, practice to minimize your crypto gambling activity.

Not stopping but somehow controlling it if you're gambling with crypto. Set aside the feeling whenever you hold it and also keep a certain amount that you will never engage in gambling because the agenda of keeping it is for investment purposes.

if you can't control yourself, you'd better stay away from gambling
The control issue is with crypto but with fiat, he can handle himself. That's hard to imagine that you can somehow control the other way and can't the other side.

Thanks for saying that. And yup. Luckily I've escaped without hurting myself too bad financially, I've "only" ever lost out on potentially millions in profit, but never destroyed my non-crypto financial life.
Wow, using only with that statement gives me a chill.

I can't even explain what would be the feeling if I'll be in your shoe. As long as you can balance yourself and won't let it destroy yourself wholly and keep on standing still, that only means that you are strong in that aspect.

Well, best of luck mate.

Your username is "thepatient", but it differs greatly from the reality that you have been through regarding investing in crypto.
Your biggest mistake is don't have patience and can't control your greed. According to the story you wrote in the opening post,
it was very clear you want instant profit. The key to the success of investing in cryptocurrency is patience, if you want maximum
results just holding cryptocurrency that you have at least 5 years. And don't use all cryptocurrency you have for gambling, just
use 10% for gambling. Please try the advice I gave, I'm sure you can succeed.

Maybe you're reading it the wrong way. He could be a doctor's patient, without any connection to patience. Wink

I'm a kind of slow earner than riski it all person. I feel the need to gamble at times but I just take a bit of mu earinngs and play with it. It's never more than 20% of my weekly profits that I risk so it's not a big hit if I lose and just a bit of fun and additional money for small expenses if I win.
People are really fan of finding up even on the slightest issue like usersnames, typo etc. This doesnt connect the true personality of the user itself. Dont know whats up to their minds.

Everything should really be on moderation and also not all people do have capacity when it comes on how much money they can earn/spent on various things that why people do end up
on situations like this where unwise spending of their money by means of gambling.

As other said earlier where theres should be separation between investment and gambling. So that everything wont mess up if somethings goes wrong into the other side.
