In my limited experience with the few professional sports bettors I have met they can only make profits in the sports in which they are experts, stats are fine and can be a great way to absorb a lot of information about your favourite sport, but if you do not watch it then you cannot give context to those stats and while the advantage that you may get out of this process may seem to be minimal you really need any edge you can get against the casinos to beat them at their own game.

· pool betting

This final one I like most and I am practising that frequently lately. I very often organise pool bets or join pool bets on Betfair. In pool bets you simply add money in 1 pool and bet on certain games. Its the same like friends putting money together and buy lottery tickets as a group and share winnings with everyone. Pool betting is the same but then for sport betting. I really enjoy the pool betting. For a pretty small amount you can have a chance up to 1,000,000€ guaranteed prize pools

The are a few main things what you need in order to become profitable in sports betting.

1) Understanding and calculating probabilities
2) Knowing the market psychology
3) Patience

I think these 3 things are VITAL in order to become profitable. First thing is that you need to be able to give a probability for an outcome. If you can't make a suggested probability, you don't know if there is value in the odds or not. Every bet you make needs to have a positive expected value. If you can make probabilities and bet with positive EV, in the long term you will win. It's the same with stocks, options or whatever financial instrument. This is the reason why for example online casinos are not profitable for the players in the long run. It can be short term if you get lucky, but long term not.

You also need to understand how the market can swing and how the masses act. Majority of people will just bet for the fun of it and always bet on their favourite team. Yes that becomes complicated in games like that but in such type of games, I don't bet on the final result of the game rather bet in between, like for soccer, who will score the first goal, how many goals will be there before half time etc. It just makes it a bit easier.

yes, maybe by learning about the characteristics of the team, you have a higher chance of winning the bet. it's just that, sometimes it's very difficult to determine the chance of winning when a strong team meets a strong enough team. this often happens in ball sports when I watching.
