Well, you have shared your thought alright but raising topics on merits does not earn you merits. It only reduces your chances of being merited because there have been countless of topics raised on this issue of merits. You could have read more before posting. The more you raise topics like this, the more you gets shares of ideas on this forum becomes irrelevant.

I personally wrote a lot of posts(like 200) before I started thinking about gaining merit in order to gain more from bounties.
I was mostly posting for bounty campaigns and because of interest in various topics, and didn't really think I'd ever get merit.
I thought I might as well try do something useful, since I enjoy the crypto-discussions anyway, so I wrote some guides and gained a bit of merit, which I understand might require some english skills.

However, to my surprise, I've also received about half my merit simply from actually just discussing things!
I thought merit mostly were given to people who wrote great threads and such, since it's a bit difficult to find a single post in a long thread, but apparently that's not the case.
I don't think you really need to be an expert in english, and post long detailed threads.
Instead, just discuss in topics, and make sure you contribute in some way. There's little reason to write the same response that 10 other people already has,
or to write one sentence saying something generic. Instead, make sure you interest yourself in crypto, then hang around in Serious Discussions, Bitcoin Discussions, if you're technically savvy, check the Technical Section.
I personally enjoy reading in Political section and chatting in Bitcoin Discussion, there are really great discussions going on, not everything is the "Altcoin Discussions" 500 pages-spam.
There are many other sections(categories), find one you can contribute to, on a topic that interests you, I only gave a few examples.

But, why would someone give you merit, if you only repeat what someone else has said?
So, try to simply find an interesting topic and discuss with people, not just "generic response", contribute with your opinion/your knowledge  Cheesy

(although I'm a noob and only have 8 merit, so surely someone else has some suggestions Tongue)

Besides increasing the activity we also have to gain merit because in bitcointalk achieving merit is very much important.

What will help us to get the merit?

Share your opinion to help each other.
Thank you.

1.- Look at the top at the screen. Localize the "search" button. Introduce "merits" in it and read all the topics answering the matter, for there are hundreds already.
2.- Do not open a thread with a long-answered topic.

- Explore the forum, read, read and read.

It is hard to get merit for me because I am not that good in constructing my English grammar but I am doing my very best.Merits are very important to rank up.Your post should be unique and on topic it should not be re stated the post of others.

Try to learn french ... Oups I think we don't have any merit source in the french section or do we ? Maybe it's not a good idea then ... In fact we little poor frenchies have to learn other langages to try to earn some smerits ... It's not easy for noone nowadays, smerits are very difficult to obtain. Good luck !

(I don't understand how people can't find all the threads and answers with searching the web ...)

Read this: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-do-i-get-merits-in-bitcointalk-forum-3013411

The above was found by googling "how to receive merit in bitcointalk.' As you see, this question has been asked numerous times before and can be easily found by 'DYOR,' or doing your own research. In the future, investigate whether your question has been posted, redundancy is never a good way to receive merit. Furthermore, merit is not in the control of the person who is posting. If one is constantly trying too hard in their search for merit, it will show in the vacuousness of the comment or post. A better way is to be genuine, thorough, maybe even a bit creative in your posts/replies and simply hope you'll be rewarded at some point. As charlie chaplin once said, 'you'll never find a rainbow if you're looking down.' By 'rainbow' he meant merit, and by 'down' he surely meant down in despair as you log into your btc talk account everyday and see your unchanged merit score.

Seconded

Plus, make the search button your best friend.

And ready through these threads with an open mind;

You need to improve your post quality. Read the rules, help the community, make conversations, input your thoughts, be friendly with the community, show them that you are hear for good cause.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.
