BTW there are lot of threads in this forum about what is merit, how to earn merit, etc. It's good that you have started to learn about merits instead of doing bounty only(I have checked your post history). Apart from trying to make a post so people "like" what you create, there are other ways to gain merit by join for help like these threads:

Why would anyone give a merit giveaway? The answer is simple, we all cannot go through all the posts one by one. There are times when the post is missed, therefore to support newbies or low rank members who feel they have a post that deserves merit but doesn't get attention, you can submit it. But still follow the rules as mentioned by the merit reward giver. Avoid begging for merit or if you force it, your account will be very easy to get banned.
