This is the split that I use for a long term investment -
BTC - 40%
ETH - 30%
LTC - 10%
XMR - 10%
NEO - 10%

Two to three thousand is a good amount to invest, much better than going too low on it (100 or 10 bucks). That of course depends on you total networth, as 3k might not be a lot to you but it's a lot to somehow else. 100 bucks might be a lot for someone too, depending where they live and their general living conditions. Having said that, make sure to hold the main-coin which is BTC, this will acts as a "hedge" - by hedge I mean that it will balance some wins and losses you'll make from other coins, because BTC is generally very stable (relatively to other coins) and is considered safer than anything else out there. So there is a good chance that you will balance some losses out if some of your coins fall in value (BTC might rise then) or vice versa. BTC and ETH is a must, the rest is really up to you (have a look at ICO's once in a while, you might find a diamond).

Divide your $2k to $3k investment into 4 to 5 coins all in all and then invest in coins that are the top ones in terms of volume and potentials. Do not just invest without studying the projects unless you will invest in Bitcoins, Ethereum, Waves, Monero, and other top coins that have already established themselves in the crypto world.

Invest the amount by diversifying it to potential coins. There are many promising altcoins which have good potential.
ETH, NEO, OMG are some good altcoins. You can also keep 50% of your amount in BTC as it is giving good profits these days. The growth of BTC is too good and after the fork might be the best time to buy BTC as the correction will make it's price decrease. This month might be a little unexpected for crypto currencies.

find no scam ICO or invest to coins what you like

This is important to read everything before investing in any of ICO. That should not be scam or else you can invest in already existing altcoin which can give you some profits in short and long term. ICO are a good way to get the best coin at cheaper rate if they are useful in the long run.

You are in the altcoin section and that means bitcoin is not an option for you? Why? Ask one here if they dont have at least some bitcoin in their wallets. I doubt someone will answer no.
Once you are an established member here, bitcoin will always pop up to every conversation. Though I respect your choice.
ETH is a good choice but fluctuations come like 10-20 dollars everyday as I monitor it. Up 20 then back down 10 or more. Then you would need to be always there so that you wont be late to trade. Maybe in months you could come up with that 50k you are working for.

I would spend $3k in few different coin rather than one. It always wise to invest and diversity.

1. 30% BTC
2. 10% OMG
3. 10% Lumens
4. 10% Cardano
5. 10% Ripple
6. 10% Tenx
7. 10% VTC
8. 10% GRS

That would be my portfolio Smiley good luck

Ethereum (ETH) is much cheaper than bitcoin, a good choice and opportunity to invest with your money.

Right now BTC is too high, my recommendation is buying some ALTs that you trust, after some research, and sell them when BTC price get lower. Then keep your money in BTC for the long term investment, because its price goes more and more.

It is very hard to find where to start investing in cryptocurrencies. You need to try hard learning by yourself for best investment I suppose. Our suggestions are just suggestions. I would buy ethereum with my first money.

Investing in Altcoins is the best thing we can do right now. As the fork is near the Altcoins have reached its bottom.
This might be a good opportunity to dip in. ETH, XMR, NEO, OMG, LTC, XRP etc... are some good coins which can give good profit in future.
Altcoins have a strong chance to rise in the next few months. Diversify the portfolio to stay safe and secure.

I would not advise now to participate in the IKO, now there are too many bad teams who take their money and disappear. In your place, I would now pay attention to the altcoins that are currently in a very strong correction. Look at the stratis, waves , wings, gup.

Timing is everything.
I strongly believe in the passive income (DPOS/Dividend). So I would say:
- RISE
- NEO
- LISK
- ARK
- ASCH

I believe they will gain profit a lot the upcoming years. And even if they stay stabile; you gain money by getting dividend.

Hello,

I am new to this forum and to the world of cryptocurrency. The volume of threads here is overwhelming and I think it will definitely take time for me to absorb key information here.

I have a quick question. I am a newbie to all this so please pardon me if this sounds silly question.

I have $2k-$3k to invest into cryptocurrency. I am not looking to become a millionaire out of my investment. My goal is to earn enough money to achieve my goal of about $50k (for my mortgage payment). There are so many ICO's out there and it is quite a challenge to find the right one. I have an account in coinbase and I bought 1 Litecoin for the sake of it (just to get started).

I am thinking I could invest some in Litecoin/Ethereum and probably some money once a blockchain goes live. I don't feel comfortable investing in ICO because I don't know what will happen when it goes live in exchange. If you need to chose between Litecoin and Ethereum, what would you recommend?

Thanks!
Well if you choose between Litecoin and Ethereum, then I would have chosen Litecoin, but I doubt that you will earn 50,000 dollars on them

I would recommend you to stay away from ICOS with that price range, especially because the last few ones have been very disappointing from a ROI perspective. With that out of the way, i'd go for something like 50% Bitcoin+Ethereum and 50% in some promising alts - i'll leave the research up to you, don't listen to troll shills for this.

I'd second that. ICOs often have a huge dump as soon as they hit exchanges, and even the best projects have an initial dip. I'd say 50% bitcoin, 30% Eth, 20% promising alts. But don't spread yourself too thinly - it is hard to keep track of lots of coins, much easier if you are just following the news for bitcoin and eth.
Most important advice is a) understand that bitcoin movements influence every other coin hugely, b) do your own research for everything, and c) make reasoned decisions, not panicked ones in response to market movement.

It  looks like 2-3$k is not enough for traditional investment but it is a good starting point for speculations (including crypto), also remember that it is pretty dangerous and require some decent skills. First of all I would recommend you just to read about different alts and tokens and try yourself with like 0.01 BTC. For now day trading seemt to be the only good choice because BTC is at its top  ho holding coins for a long time might be dangerous.
if you have that kind of money then it is good for you , invest it in new ico there will be a half price of sometimes then buy it if you see a potential on it and it is good to buy that because you will get a big discount on it once you avail it early.

most coins are just a worse form of casino play, you earn money from market propaganda and other investors, you have systematic loss through the sell of the premine by the issuers,

or through the crazy tulpmania of bitcoin, which will in the end slaughter the money of many and millions will disappear, making the cryptoindustry rich only

best reason to invest is, because you seek to hedge risks

Invest in time and research and when you're ready to pull the trigger, go all in on one coin and hope for the best.  Tongue
