Newbie jail gogo

Why was it removed in the first place?

Maybe because it wasn't perfect. You can make your bot account post with the intervals desired by the jail and you can make them level up the account so that it leaves the jail. One way to deal with it would be to add a merit requirement, but this would require people with merit to read and reward posts in the jail. There are no perfect scenarios I guess.

I agree that Brand New and Newbie accounts makes lot of crap threads with stupid questions. But I think that restricting to start threads for these users isn't perfect solution. Many people with new accounts came here to make their service announcements, how they would have to make announcement if such restrictions would be implemented? Farm account until reach Jr. Member rank? Buy account? Hire someone to post announcements and spend money for it? But maybe restricting to make threads only in Bitcoin Discussion board can be good solution.
That will be another positive or plus point of implementing this, we are working here since a long time and we have spent our time on this forum and gained trust, so i believe it is a defraud if someone from outside with a brand new account came and start managing campaigns and make other announcements of their company or coin instead of hiring already trusted or working members of this forum.
I agree with you. It will be good if you create of poll regarding this issue on this forum, i will vote for it.

That would be very helpful to all of us. It is true that newbies usually ask the same questions over and over again. The forum should to do something with that indeed. Something like the option when a user can wear an avatar only from rank of full member, so that would be an option to start a new topic from rank of jr. member or member, cause of between newbie and jr. member ranks the period of time is too short.

Of course it's not perfect, but why let perfect get in the way of the good.  I think it's at least worth trying.   My guess is that there'll be a marked improvement in the quality of new threads.  People shoot down suggestions just because they won't eliminate every conceivable problem, but that just hinders progress.  Not sure if theymos even reads these threads, but he really needs to kick some ass and get this place cleaned up.

I agree with this suggestion. Many newbies today are creating their own thread without even checking on the seacrh button if there's already a thread on it. Some are just creating it to boost their post count and turn to jr. rank. Some threads are non sense and irrelevant to Bitcoin. I have seen this rampant on Philippines and Bitcoin discussion forum. If your suggestion will push, then they will be required to search for the thread that they have questions. This way, the thread will be clean.

I think this forum should be reconstructed ;ie many things should be integrated for example" newbie guide" should be sent to members emails (I think it's better than the thread one ), also "remarks and suggestions section" should be added  so that admins remain in contact with users ...And many other options that aim to improve members experience here
The staff better knows about the reconstruction or modification of the forum, i have just stated my opinion and idea, its up to the staff (dev) if they are interested in it or may be they have any better solution for this.

I'll suggest that  a newbie and maybe jr member shouldn't be allowed to post new threads but only posts.

There are a couple ways you can avoid a lot of spammers and crap threads. I've seen this on another forum so it's not my idea but it can be applied here and could potentially solve the spamming issue.
So here it goes.
All new registered accounts have access to a limited section of the forum. In this section they would have to prove themselves. An account would get approved if it reaches x amount of posts and is at least a month old.
This requires constant moderation of the special section to filter out low quality posts.
Of course this won't stop spamming but it's a start.

Spamming the forum is very hard to avoid. Maybe those who don't read rules are those who are punishable or even those who just post for signature campaigns.
Yes I am one of them, but I wish and hoped that every post I made makes sense and can give a bit of advise that are not even said before.
In my opinion, it is hard to make sure that no one makes a post with the same thought. It's hard to backread, bumping threads should be avoided if not necessary,  and I think that there are millions users and few threads that are good enough or have quality.
I'm glad about the clean up, everyday is a challenge.
I hope that in the near future there will be solutions for everything.
I'm not that good with my grammar but I can try until I can deliver it more effectively.

OP are you talking about crap threads looking like this one:
I am a newbie, I want to know about the best signature campaigns for newbie?

Or threads like this one:
I am a newbie, just want an overview of what altcoin is and how can we earn thorugh it?

Or perhaps:
Some bitcoin users told me not to do transactions in these couple of days because hackers are active these days. I want to know is it true? or some kind of rumor? Anyone here who have faced such problem?

 Roll Eyes
That's what i am saying mate, even when i was a newbie i didn't know that which question or topic is valid to start a thread and which is not.
So better to understand what i am saying before trying to get attention.

Just a suggestion that if there would be some restrictions for "Newbie" and "Brand New" members that they can't start a new thread on the forum except "Beginners and Help" section then i think this will help to keep clean the forum.
I disagree! And this is coming from someone who hates spam. The reason: this will also take away any chance to create a thread from a knowledgeable person who doesn't spam the forum, while those are the people who create true value by posting.
You can't expect him to first spam enough posts to be Jr. Member before being able to open a real thread. I know these are a minority, but discouraging them takes away the last chance to get decent posters.

Most of replying users are involved in Sig campaigns , that's why such shit threads recieve thousands of replies .
Deleting entire threads is a much better solution. It seems this happens more often recently, as I've seen many recent threads from people complaining their post count went down. Assuming their signature campaign pays based on the total number of posts, that hurts them financially.
Sure, they'll open another thread, but if a moderator can trash 2000 posts with one click, I'd say it's an easy solution.

A much better solution is of course stricter rules for signature campaigns. I recently checked the post history of a few people enrolled in a certain signature campaign, and most of them were posting in Spam Megathreads*. This is just a small example, in my opinion they should all be deleted:

The first decentralized crypto betting platform
I favor whatever measure can be taken to reduce the amount of spam in this forum. I personally report shit posts and ignore some others but I’ve been thinking lately about this forum comparing it to others I read and participate in, most of them in my mother tongue, and I’ve come up with the following conclusion:

The more popular a forum is the more spam you can find in it.

Forums that tend to have little spam tend also to have little traffic, and the other way around. The most popular forum in my country doesn’t have nearly as many repeated threads as this one but it tends to have many posts with very short replies, like one-word ones (for example: “nice” or “I agree”) and people don’t get paid to post there.

So, in spite of the fact that I support measures to reduce spamming here, I understand that more people joining the forum and more posts, even low-quality ones, means more income for the owner, for campaign advertisers (because they have more potential clients), for campaign managers and so on.

I haven’t been here for long but I’ve seen people say that the owner doesn’t want to take strong measures against spamming and I can understand that up to a point because maybe if you do that you will see the traffic drastically reduced and once that has happened you never know if you can turn that up again.

Therefore, I think it is better that members against spamming take measures for ourselves rather than proposing to the owner, because in the short time I’ve been here I’ve seen quite a few posts on the subject but the owner hasn’t done anything.

So, taking measures like SMAS, or massively reporting, ignoring and/or not replying spam are what can really improve the quality without waiting for any action from the owner. In my opinion we had better think of measures we can take for ourselves but we have to be realistic and know that there will always be some spam and that maybe those measures will reduce traffic.

We have seen a mess on the forum due to many similar and crap threads, what i have observed that most of these threads are started by "Brand New" and "Newbie" members.

Share your views about this. Thanks

In addition to that I want to suggest if there is a way to perform a form of walk through test for newbies immediately they are registered which will directly take them to certain threads that have been created by reputable members of the forum to serve as a way to answer most of their questions. Threads such as

1. How is activity calculated,
2. How do I rank up
3. How is trust system managed
4. Basic rules of the forum etc.

At the end of it there will be some acceptance to have read and agreed to it and if you are not clear, you can only post into that same thread and until you click affirmation before you move to the main forum. With that newbies will then be held responsible for asking questions they could have been provided answers to.

I do agree that Newbies should not be able to create forum threads..
I spend most of my time on this forum just reading and learning and its rather annoying seeing threads started with the same old question again and again. If you're a newbie, chances are, any question you have has already been asked and answered 1000 times before and a simple Google would bring you the enlightenment you seek.. It must be very annoying for the mods..  Undecided

And they shouldn't be replying either

Edit: Example, there are at least 2 threads on the front page of the Meta section asking about how Activity Count works, both ignoring the MAIN POST (also on the same page) explaining exactly that, in fine detail... FFS
