Hey guys, with the recent bitfinex hack and the price plummet, id like to buy. But im also concerned about my Cyber-security. If the site I use gets hacked, anyone can take and leak my financial documents or my driver's licence. How would I keep safe?

P.S. Im probably to late to reap the bonuses, but hacks always happen and I want to be ready. Smiley

I'm happy for this question cos it an issue which will help us all and speaking of keeping safe ID due to what's happening this days I think is better to stay away from site which require some deep ID info from customers and use a paper wallet cos all online site are not ever safe. Thank

I agree with this, right now I try to avoid any sites which require ID, it is still possible to do alot with bitcoin without having to send someone your ID. If no one has your ID it is impossible for them to be used in a way you do not them to.

Yes,it is possible and that's why I said you have to avoid some site which require ID verification or site which are secure/customer concern and use a cold wallet that's it.

first, if you want to buy and sell bitcoin, you can buy and from your friends which have legit seller.

second, you can find market exchanger that would not need to verify but you can still trading. i think its a small market exchanger. its good better than not trading  Grin

in polo, i think you can still trading while you don't have to verify your ID, but if you want to reach the limit, you must verify your ID.

thats what i do and my other friends do. at least we can trade while its just small amount without to verify ID.

Bro You can Use an Exchanger where No Verification is Required Like Localbitcoins.com website.
In Localbitcoins No Verification is Required For Buying and Selling Bitcoins But It Only Needs When You Want to Buy a Large Amount Of Bitcoins Like 10 Btc......

Did you ever heard about USB wallet for bitcoin? My friend got it maybe a month ago as a present from some campaign he took part in. It seems more saved than online wallets as Bitfinex and Others. You can try this. Find more information about it on the forum. I'm sure it can help you to hold your money well and feel saved.

You can start by submitting the ID's as  "fake copies" watermark! I don't know how to put it if that line didn't make sense, basically when you submit id's online, you can generate a water mark for that date on the id which conveys that the id can be only used on that date.Even if hacker steals your details,he won't be able to use it again.Removing water mark would just destroy the image.Search for it!
Actually, I have submitted a water marked scan of my ID card and they didn't accept it as a valid document.

I had to send a clear ultra-high scan of my ID before it got accepted and I then had my account verified at Bitstamp.

When I send ID, I usually censor alot of stuff such as ID Number, Personal number.

That ruins the whole point of identification. You are to provide proof that you're you, using information that's private and only you have access to. If you censor it, what's the point?

All they need is my face, name and location. I've sent only this info and it went through at Paypal and Skrill. Why would I share it to some minority on localbitcoins?
That might work if you're dealing with a seller on Localbitcoins, but exchanges would want to see the entire document.
Adding a watermark, like others have suggested might be ok. Has anyone tried this with success?

It is true that verifying ID can be bad also. But for some transactions, it is needed for them to know your background and information. I don't try to verify my ID because I don't have one, they are not accepting Student ID and Im still not on my legal age so verifying ID is impossible for me that's why I didn't encounter this problem yet.

You can try with passport.

This call for concern as I also share in your fears but in my own opinion, I think there is little we can do as the onus lies on the Wallet provider to provides strong security for funds kept in their custody because they are providing these services at a cost to you and me, so they should be the one to ensure its safety...

This is the biggest problem that confronts the Bitcoin users , it is the security issues . I don't prefer sharing any kind of documents with any site , even it is legit or licensed , because it might get hacked and the hackers might hold your documents , then they will sell it on the dark internet .

Having ID Verified online is a risk, as always because there are always bad guys who will do anything to steal. But as others have mentioned, you can choose the sites where you can upload your ID, you're the one who is responsible for that, so choose well but remember that even the most trusted site can be hacked, so it won't be 100% safe. Putting watermark on the ID is quite a good idea, but I don't think all of the site who requires ID Verification will accept it? Haven't tried that. Hackers mostly focus on the wallet balances rather than Personal information, yes, but IT'S POSSIBLE, no one can prevent it, we can just reduce the risk by being extra careful.

You could try watermarking your ID. But make sure you use an application that will make it irremovable. You could even go to their customer support and ask them to generate their own passphrase that you will watermark with.

if you want to do this one, just make sure to first check with the site that you want to send your ID to . because most of them are sensitive about these stuff and don't like any edited or distorted scans. and adding a watermark to your scan may be considered an edit and reject it.

But, I don't think so. in my minds the average hacker amount will never think about the personal data of users, they target just a nominal in the wallet. but different with carder is targeting about the personal data of member or users can give benefits for them.
but I you can never put the important document in the 3rd parties or internet because the chance of the leak is high.
