Get a Dog. They are the best. If you want a good friend, be a good friend yourself. Loyal, caring, trusting- unless you're getting a dog, in which case you can isht on his food dish every day.
Read books, think ideas, question things. It might not attract in quantity, but the friends you can connect with on that level are worth keeping in my experience.
I think you need to look for common interests and hobbies so you can spend time together and you were pleased to enjoy this process. Common hobbies have to communicate and make you a more interesting companion.

Communicate. Talking and listening are the two msot effective ways to get to know a person.

My first friend that I ever met was when I moved into my new house. I saw a girl playing on her swing set, so I went over and said, "Hey I'm new around here... Do you mind if I swing with you?" And we have been best friends for 9 years now!!! Just say Hi. That's all it takes sometimes!

You fine, it's nothing wrong being like that. Did you believe you must always have a friend? You will always have a friend when you have a same interest and have a frequently direct/indirect interaction and that thing you called friend will naturally occour. I have a friend who not like to hanging out but he is absolutley my friend, he is fine being himself who not hang out so often. We have something common, me and some part my friend are the only few guys who not smoking in UNI, thats why. There's always people who not good with socialize with other as loong that behavior not damage yourself or the other and you happy about it.

just be yourself and say hello to who you wanna meet. be honest. because you cant make friends with lies..
Be yourself, do what you like to do. You will meet them on your path. If your purpose is to make friends, you can make but they will not be what you are really seeking for.
Be kind and thoughtful. Offer to help them out if you're stuck. Don't be an eager beaver, just be there for them for little things if they need help.
