Make him read the whitepaper by [email protected]. Also introduce him to several images that show bitcoins (search bitcoin image description) and also show him some faqs on www.blockchain.info

 Grin are you kidding me?

just tell him to open an account at circle.com . there he will get his first BTC for free and can play with it.

maybe you show him the new docu Rise and Rise of BTC too.
are they still doing that?

Most of the Bitcoin Wiki is more or less outdated but it's still a good place to start IMO

Make sure he does not invest more then willing to lose.

Figure out what he enjoys trading, holding, mining, etc.   Buying direct is the easiest way assuming you have the cash to buy.

If I want my friend to be interested in bitcoin, what should I say to him if he ask "Where should I start?"

Ask him to buy bitcoin directly and don't try any mining Smiley

try to apply this procedure
- introduce the basis... some video about the BTC idea ... I like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9jOJk30eQs
- show how it works, an example transaction (change addy, blockchain explorer)
- make a wallet incl. paper backup
- let him join this forum and search for giveaways, promos etc. (learn and earn something to start with)
- warn him about risks (lost pass, too many small transactions ...)
