Just keep your self busy and stay away from people intresred in gambling
There is no need to stay away from gambling. Just make sure you aren't gambling away money you can't afford to lose!
For some people may be he can control the outcome of their money but for addicted gambler they dont even know how to control their influence of money income and outcome mostly for gambling thats why they will keep thinking about getting their money by keep on gambling but in the end they lose all of their money
I always withdraw my first deposit when I have made a profit. That way I gamble only with my profit so I'll never lose money. That might be a useful tip for 'addicted' people

Basically the only real way would be to go to Gamblers Anonymous where you would get a sponsor that would help you go thru with it.

Indeed. It all depends on yourself because if you cannot control yourself, nobody can help you. 
Well if you want to avoid the gambling addiction then you should first see itin a different manner like play in the casino just for fun not to earn money...then use that time to something more intresting like learning prigramming language so you can make your oun casino

I don't see unwinding/outing/getaway trip as a nice suggestion for one to stay away in gambling for a long. As probability of returning back from their gambling manner after the trip ended has a high chance.
Possible solution for staying away in gambling must really cover all the desired and interest that gambling gaves a person so I see it really make sense if that gambler will found another source of money that really decent without any risking money like stable job with decent payment.

Better move an island where op don't have any access to internet and spend few months there so that it can be helpful to give up that gambling otherwise i don't think anything can be helpful there.

Depends of the island. but the best way for now to stay away is to join in christianity religion that can give some advice how gambling is.
I heard that gambling is bad and they dont allow this type of hobby for christianity..
As a person who has overcome several addictions my best advice is to surround yourself with people that also do not want to do the addiction you're trying to avoid. This can be groups focused on overcoming addiction or it can be online groups discussing overcoming addiction. Of course, it really all does boil down to simply agreeing not to do it and not doing it. It's the same whether it's drink, smoke, dice, or not rubbing your balls on poison oak. You don't have to deal with the consequences if you simply don't do it in the first place.

if you really intend to stay away from gambling,
stay away from anything related to gambling, such as gambling section do not see and do not come gambling sites
because I ever felt jealous of someone who won gambling
and you will go back to gamble again

very exaggerated,do not be that way to avoid gambling. first I was a gambling addict too, but now I'm not too often gambling, only on the secret, your seriousness to avoid

I agree. Seeing other replies this is the best solution. I wouldn't take suggestions like some people mentioned video games, porn, low budget bets and so on..
If you see that you are getting in over your head - either be a man and stop learn some self control, or seek a professional to help you with your addiction.
In the end, most of it is just in your head, and it doesn't take that much to overcome it.

ride a bike,listen some music,take your dog for a walk ,watch a movie or something

A succesful idea is to stop, stop for a while and you will understand how a dark part of your life was by doing it, i know many people which stopped and are happier.
yes true why are we don't try first to stop temporarily, we see whether life would be better without gambling?

You should gamble if you are willing to risk and lose the money. There is a difference between having the self control to making a simple, low cost bet and a complex, high cost bet. It has to be a risk that you are willing to take.
