Curious...why do you still have a land line?

I want to ditch it, all i need is the internet, what set up do i need?   or you mean just unplug the phone?

That's correct. Unplug the phone and stop paying for it. Having wired phone today is ridiculous.

Tell them it is being recorded and you are going to get them done for harassment or just threaten them telling them the good old saying from taken, you will find them and you will.....

I think if not careful you just provide them entertainment if you do that:

Today a guy rang and i said i was the chinese takeaway (accent included), 2 minutes later the same guy rang back asking for the chinese takeaway... no lie - couldnt believe that.

Another time im saying fuck off down the phone multiple times, the guy kept saying can you speak up a bit i cant hear you - he got me good then i'll give him that.

Who takes these jobs? i almost feel bad for these workers.

Aha quite possibly another thing i would try is to answer let them speak once you know that's them, start heavy breathing and making strange sex noises and keep it up until they hang up.

It sounds like someone is playing games with you does it not?

Have you seen the numbers are they legit takeaways etc?

How about answering, "NSA, this call is being recorded.  Start."

by not answering the telephone, i haven't for years

That or if its an automated service
Stay silent and it hangs up  Grin

Honestly all you can do is keep ignoring it till they think the number is out of service or not used or try to get unsubscribed if it has some sort of listing based on what you purchased over the last few years etc.

Telemarketers are the sole reason why I haven't had a landline phone for at least 15 years now. My cell phone is my "home phone" now and I don't get those calls anymore.
A telemarketer called me once about subscribing to a newspaper. I told them I can't read. Their answer was, well if you get the paper you can learn. *facepalm*

Ask them where did they get that phone number, request they don't call you again and hang up. Smiley

My favorites!

Answer the phone and pretend to be...

A senile old person who loves to talk on the phone.

A two year old who does not know how to talk on the phone, or get Mommy, or hang up.

A religious zealot who can't wait to spread the word.

the little kid one is good, pretend to be a little kid and then change to the parent and acuse the caller of being a paedo.

Anyway, whats the best way to deafen them? im thinking speak really quiet to suck them in and then shout really loud or use some device to send a large sound down the phone mic.  Maybe they wont call again?
For a very long time now, I've been planning to setup a computer with voice recognition software and hook that up to a random chat room on the interwebs. The answers would be returned via text-to-speech.
I would then put the marketing callers through to my "answering bot" and record the conversation.

Unfortunately, I never made it happen. Roll Eyes

lol pretty good idea.

Getting tons of these things, usually a person asking for someone who doesnt live at the address.   They care little that they've disturbed you, who are these people that take a job calling people like this?

Tell them: "Your call is important to us, please hold..." Then you stick your phone near your speakers and play this. Loud enough so they can't pick up anything else for a few minutes, then you hang up.

lol, the trick might be to speak quiet to sucker them closer to the headset or turn it up.

You do not want to play their game. Just say those words, play the music and leave for a few minutes. Any music will do as long as you do not talk to them. You want a robot to talk to another robot. They don't care anyway and you'll reverse a stressful useless phone call into an opportunity for relaxation with soothing music...

Changed phone number first later ended my contract and switched to Virgin broadband only package. No phone = no unwanted calls. BTW I have my mobile if I want to call or want to be called Smiley.

you need a BT landline for the virgin broadband only package right? how good is the virgin internet service?

If you can get a cable connection you don't need BT landline. Unfortunately they have a bit limited coverage.
The internet service is quite good (but the support is useless as usual).

probably wont work for me im already living a bit in the sticks, stuck with BT Sad

Ahh, so you use the phone line for Internet?

I'm just saying, most people just use their cell phone as the main line. You could just unplug it.

Break the ringer.
