The longer you manage without breaking the resolution the easier it will be.

I had a resolution to stop drinking hard liquor because I used to get drunk on every party and last time I did it was on NY Eve when I drunk so much that I was vomiting for 2 hours, not joking. So I told myself that I won't get drunk again and I'll just have a beer next time I go out and it's been almost a month and I haven't touched whisky or vodka.
I wish all of you guys with resolutions manage to keep it.

I quit smoking as a new year's resolution. Way for me to keep it is a mind trick.

I need to want more not to smoke then to smoke.

That sounds weird so let me explain:
If i view my promise as a task that's going to take lots of work i am going to view it as in negative light.
I will see it as a hard road, and that makes me think smoking is an easy road.

When in fact it takes more effort to smoke then not to.
I need to buy it every week, i am controlled by it and my free time is controlled by it. It makes my energy levels low and i can't train as efficiently.
It makes me need to use more money.

So i won't view quitting as a hard task. I will focus on the future and now where i am free of it.
Now when i think smokng it i don't remember it something i can't do but something i don't have to do anymore.

I can rememer the nausea, bad breath, possibility of lung diseases, that i was constantly tired and felt bad.
Now why would i want that.

Many people have debated that the best way to sustain a new year resolution is to make it a lifestyle thing. Make everything you have vowed to do a part of your daily activity. Let it be a part of your life, that way you can not forget what you have promised to do or not do. If you said you will not smoke, start doing things that will make you not to smoke. Keep yourself away from any environment that will trigger smoking fantasy again. Resolutions should not only be made by mouth, they should be put into practice.

Most time we do all the above you mentioned but still achieve nothing.
First, you have to be convicted in your heart that you are willing to achieve that new year resolution.

The best way to sustain a new year resolution is to write it where you can see it each day especially in the morning,  so you can have that consciousness as you walk into the rest of each day until that resolution becomes a belief system or a culture

Remind yourself of your resolution each day by saying it out loud

Forget it the first time you fall back into your old habits. "If you make a mistake, you should just act as though it never happened the first time. Avoid thinking negatively; instead, pretend you didn't err the next day and return to the behavior pattern you were trying to promote.

If you continually making mistakes, try examining your behavior rather than placing the blame on yourself to determine where the process is falling short.
"If a decision doesn't work out, we shouldn't hold ourselves responsible. It implies that we now have more information to draw from in order to make better decisions moving forward.my suggestion though.

How to keep a resolution for the new year
Similar to last year, we have made resolutions for the new year as it is the beginning of the year. Due to the fact that you failed to keep your resolutions from prior years, you may have stopped making resolutions altogether. You weren't unable to keep those resolutions because you were unmotivated or incapable; rather, it was because you never gave it much attention.
Here are some strategies for sustaining ones New Year's resolution.

Make resolutions that you can actually achieve. You cannot set goals based only on your desires.
Write down your resolutions on a sticky note or in your diary so that you can remember them every day. Even better, set a calendar reminder.
Every day, make progress toward that goal. For example, if one of your goals for the new year is to read two books every month, start by reading at least one page each day.
To check off everyone you managed to do, use an app or calendar.
Finally, keep going; whether you skip a day or a month, it makes no difference; just pick up where you left off.

You can add your own suggestions.
