Does wallet.dat ever change? If the encryption bitcoin uses ever gets cracked (say some method of quickly reversing the hash), wouldn't the encryption need to change? In that case, wouldn't you need to recreate your wallet.dat?

I keep my wallet on a truecrypt partition protected by a ~30 character password. I also make backups whenever I use it, and save those on both a USB Drive, and a USB Thumbdrive. (not dilligently though, I think I need to rethink my backup strategy).

Perhaps my question has already been asked, but cant go through 100+ pages.
I have a Mac with Parallels installed on it.
Instead of using a live CD, can i use Ubuntu on my parallels instead.
I can configure in a way that the Virtual machine is isolated from my hard disk.

I have a Mac as well sadly most of the tutorials here are all for computers running Windows or Linux -.-
I have OS X Lion installed but I have the Virtualbox app
Someone told me that it's best if I create a bootable OS because even if I use Virtualbox malware can still have access to all my info since the Virtualmachine is saved on my computers hard drive.
Are paper wallets secure enough?
Depends on how securely you store them. I keep mine in a fire-proof and water-proof safe.

This thread has been super!! Can't believe I just created a bootable linus on a usb stick, learned how to backup the wallet.dat on 2 separate USB & encrypted it...all this from reading the 1st 8 pages of this thread. Thanks for the guide!!

What about using a Virtual OS with VirtualBox? We can download and install the client on there and only be able to access it through the use of Virtual Box. Furthermore we could download and install TrueCrypt on the Virtual OS and encrypt and save the wallet on a usb drive. Or am I wrong.

Virtual Box and a mounted truecrypt volume is not safe enough, because worms are able to collect your wallet when you are using it. Fully separated system provides better security.
Yeah I understand now. I see the big picture. But can Ubuntu be saved on a USB and booted on a Mac? If not, is there any way of doing something similar?
