If you have the time, patience and skill, please post a how-to for windows users, on how to create a bootable linux distro (any one) bootable from a CD
Bit coins or no Bit coins, this would be helpful

Ive created the guide to install Mint Linux in a USB drive and Bitcoin-QT as a client in the following post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/btc-security-run-your-wallet-client-from-a-bootable-linux-usb-170756

Also there is no such thing as "100% secure" anything in the world... it's just more difficult than most people want to deal with (since a bitcoin wallet with 100'000 BTC looks exactly like a bitcoin wallet with 0.00000001 BTC).

I'm a bit confused. Please pardon my ignorance.  I've been reading through the beginning of this thread to figure how to secure my wallet.

So by creating an offline wallet (USB, Paper etc.) do I empty my wallet on blockchain?  Or do I keep the wallet on their server?

I created a paper wallet. Does that mean if my online wallet is hacked and the bits are stolen, does my paper wallet replace them and I'm safe?

Another thing I don't understand is "encrypted,"  what does that mean?

any explanations appreciated.

I'm no expert, but I think this is how it goes:

"Encrypted" means that it's enciphered to a password. It is very difficult (in the range of "impossible", though not truly impossible) to access without that password.

The online wallet is not where the money is stored; it's stored in multiple locations, but associated with your number, anonymously on different machines which are connected. Theft is theft: if someone figures out how to steal it, it's stolen the moment it re-associates with another account (as if it was paid). Is there is a value associated with bitcoins, most countries will consider it a crime.

The paper wallet allows you to re-import the address so that if your computer breaks, you have a means of maintaining your bitcoin address so that the bitcoins are not simply lost. It is a failsafe, not financial security.

Great info, thanks.

So now I can create my paper wallet and *transfer bitcoins to it* for savings.  Spending the coins is difficult, but presumably we're talking about occasional transactions here.

For Windows users, I have found LinuxLive USB Creator a really simple way of creating a bootable USB drive that loads Linux. You can choose the Linux flavor you are going to install.
Hi,

I have installed linux live usb creator directly onto my usb drive, and I read afterwards that I should have downloaded it onto my computer.
Is that ok?
It seemed easier to do this.
Thanks.

Download the usb creator to your hard drive and install it as an application. When you open it as an installed application you will be able to follow the steps to crete the bootable linux USB drive. Its best to use the option that formats the USB drive.
