When reinstalling the wallet, do I need to re-download the whole block chain? Or, do I just drag the new wallet on top of the old one in my applications folder?
nope.
IF you want to be paranoid (which I recommend just as a good practice) backup your wallet.dat
otherwise, no, just replace the exe and away you go.
On a Mac, do I just replace the application in the applications folder?

number one culprit is out of sync computer time. If I get a batch of a lot of orphans, a reboot of my wallet vm usually takes care of that.

Hi Guys,
Nice job with the coin.
I have a serious question...
On my first stakes, is it normal to have four of the blocks rejected and only one accepted? It seems like an absurdly high number of rejected stakes. If I am only going to actually stake 1 out of 5 blocks, I am really scratching my head. Can someone please tell me why this might happen?

It will be interesting to see which 'camp' you end up joining, the big blockers or the small blockers.
I have a lamassu BTC ATM machine three blocks away, if I hit it big, it will be put to good use.

Most people have by now sized their blocks around 10K and upwards, though some are salmon, and picked the opposite tactic, many tiny blocks (vs just a few larger ones).

GetInfo should show as staking active. It concerns me that it is not showing that, and honestly I trust it more than i trust the icon. They are based on different methods to determine whether the wallet is hashing, and I believe my method (the one in get info) is the most solid of the two. Honestly I am not quite sure what to say about it. I will do some thinking.
Edit: after doing some testing, it is possible that when you hit getinfo that it can return "staking not active" when it is in fact staking. If you hit getinfo for the fraction of a second before your wallet has began hashing on the current network block, then it will say staking not active. I got my wallet to say that when i kept hitting getinfo repeatedly until it got that result. Try enter it a few more times. I think your staking is in fact active.
Should I throw several 5000 blocks at it or smaller at 1000, with a total of 10,000-20,000? You say, most are at 10K and upward. Right, the fact I have it sent at 4290 I need to wait until a block hits something that high, if it was seperate at 250 or 500 per block, I'd already be staking....is that correct?
That is the age old question. If you intend to leave it for a couple of months I would say split it to around 6k each block. If you are trying to do a quick turn around then go bigger blocks. But if you get unlucky you might not stake for a long time if you only have one or two blocks. Made it back, attempted the getinfo trick...nothing...so I decided to cclistcoins and get this -

I am fairly certain that your wallet is staking, but the staking status code in getinfo isn't quite perfect. The other staking indicator (the laser beam) is showing that your wallet is staking, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I will look into the code and see if I can prefect this. If you aren't totally convince, I can compile you a wallet that will print your stake hashes in the debug log so that you can double check it.
I'll give it a month or two, see what happens.... it was only 4290 not like the end of the world.
