Monero would be the most preferable choice right now.
Firstly because it has a very strong development team.
It's completely anonymous and keeps the identity of the sender and reciever private.
Within two to three months its price can rise upto $300 per annum.
Most people are suggesting Ethereum but it has already seen a large jump in its capital in the recent months, so its price will not go up much in the coming year.

I think it a good time to invest in a platform projects, which now has a low market cap. Good choice for now is Waves and NEO.

Ethereum is the best altcoin in your terms. They have a plan of making it proof of stake, however its distribution is already proof of work. Some say that it is premined, but I do not think this is a big thing for such a big volume coin.
They have indeed a good team of developers in leadership of Vitalik Buterin.
If you are a Bitcoin maximalist, and looking for another long term coin. The second big volume coin Ethereum seems best for you.

I do believe that sooner or later the coins that are fully anonymous/untraceable will have the success.
Monero is already big, but it's far from its potential.
Aeon is a worthy follower imho.
But really, there are a lot of good coins coins nowadays (along with 100x more shitcoins, I know), so you'll have to do some research on most coins people suggest in this kind of threads.

Yes I already have Monero in my list, together with Ethereum Classic. I have not done any exploration in Aeon, but I heard it has one developer only. That is not very reassuring in my opinion.
Everyone, what about Decred? I heard good things and market capitalization is still low.

Well, unless bitcoin gets atomic swaps or some other decentralized exchange capability its probably going to get replaced. From what I have heard and seen LN isnt looking so good for that.

Fair distribution. No proof of stake or initial coin offerings. I want an altcoin distributed through proof of work.
A good team of developers. This can be argued, but please do explain why you think the team of your altcoin is one of the best.
A growing community. I believe a community behind an altcoin should be positive and optimistic especially during bear markets.

If you want all of this then i'd really suggest monero. It is the best altcoin i think.
It doesn't have much hype surrounding it like basically every other coin in the top 10 category right now. It has a ready product(it is not a token waiting to be redeemed in the future), a good team of devs, and a community which seems vibrant yet quite anti-pump.
It's going to be a good long term bet, with stable growths.

ETH has too high capitalization already so it won't able to grow a lot. I suggest to look at NEO. It's "cheneese ethereum", very good choice with suitable capitalization. IMO it will cost 150-300 till the end of next year.
Also NEO has had a very sharp rise though, so it could be questioned if it has still so more space to grow than ETHereum...

The first thing that comes to my mind is Electroneum. It is distributed by proof of work. However, this work is also a game people play on their smartphones, which is basically what the project's all about. Team is educated and somewhat experienced. At least, SiteWizard project looks quite successful and CEO is among people who founded it. What also might be considered as a plus for those who think it's better to avoid coins whose creators are not from developed countries, team is mainly British. As for growing community - well, they sold tokens on ICO 6 days before scheduled, so they are really popular and I believe more people will invest after the release. Fair distribution. If you want a good coin with a professional team, you must save Ethereum. And for New Comer Coin, try to buy Regal Coin. Because recently Regal Coin rose to 50 $ and became a competitor of many coins to invest.

Vertcoin might appeal to you. POW, with a focus on maintaining decentralization, ASIC resistant, and organic growth. A huge and active community with lots of optimism, and what seem to be very good developers. And it has some history to it. No ICOs, no bells and whistles, just an honest crypto that solves some of the issues plaguing bitcoin.
I like it. I also like the willingness of the developers to change their mining algorithm if there is a threat of Asics being developed. It also has a decent sized community from checking the amount of subscribers on Reddit.
Development is continuous and hash rate is also increasing. The future looks good for this coin. But I cannot invest in it anymore because the price has already been pumped.
Give me more suggestions.
