I think the password that you have forgotten cannot be changed again when you write it down. all you can do is remember the password that you wrote down. maybe it's something close to you, like your name with a unique code, special date, date of birth, name of the film, or something else. if you can't remember it, I think you can't take the bitcoin you have. try harder to remember.

Rather than thinking about his password, I got the thought of what if this guy is a hacker or something and try to hack your email when someone try to help him.
Also to the OP, dont believe someone if they tell you to send money in return for services finding your password.

I doubt that bitcoin is yours, it's a strange thing to forget your password with a sizable amount of money.
It is not logical for me if something trivial like this can happen.
It's totally logical for early adopter to lose password because they consider bitcoin as nothing back then and only using it for experimental purpose.

I don't think anyone would ever forget the password of an account with 18.2 Btc, I honestly (without condemnation) consider it a crack to steal.
I had 0.2 Btc, and did a backup 10x to be sure.
I didn't sleep for 2 nights in a row, I was afraid that someone would not enter my account.
Now, maybe he really forgot, but I don't think it's about that much, or maybe he's planning on obscuring so much money for someone to help him, Caution!
Well im sure that if you are an early adopters and own 100 BTC but at that time which only worth $0.008 each you won't backup it 10x will you? It's just logical for people to forget password because bitcoin wasn't a thing back then and to cash it out is a lot harder compared to now.

It will be very hard for you to gather some information according to your problem about forgetting your passworf that has a lot of bitcoins, because anyone can say that they have a wallet which is forgotten or hack and they want to recover it from those necessary problems. First, we must verified that the account you are talking about that has been forgotten was really yours and if the account is have some email binding in which you can prove that it is yours. Second, you must provide that this account is yours by filling up the necessary details in order to recover the account that has been lost.

my wallet 2014 may 21
...

This could indicate, that its not seed/HD wallet.
Its old wallet just password protected.
If pass is that long (13 char) its bad, but its good also because you know how long it is.
It will be really hard to crack if you don't have any more clues about your password. You need first to indicate what characters you used in your password (letters, numbers?, big letters?, special characters?) and then only then start to crack.

The wallet is yours you are the one who created it and I'm sure you have the things needed to be written down to make your account secured specially the seeds of your wallet, you can easily recover your wallet with your seeds without knowing your password for sure.

Its always recommended to write seed on paper or store it offline, never store it electronically. Still no one care about this while creating the wallet. I always do this practice of saving seed on paper and in few cases it helped me in recovering my coins.
If OP has seed with him he can still get his coins else RIP his coins.

I doubt that bitcoin is yours, it's a strange thing to forget your password with a sizable amount of money.

It's quite not appropriate to ask for help at the same time not monitor the people that would like to help you anyway, thus readily providing the email address you have. Though, the thing here is to recover a password, I think brute forcing will not be the best idea, your best way is to backtrack your transactions way back before and look on your harddrive to scan and search for possible information that might lead you to recover your bitcoins.

It is not logical for me if something trivial like this can happen.

Because for us, the only reason why a person could seek their lost bitcoin is when they are one of the early adopters and bitcoin. And having an account which isn't really old is already a thing for us to doubt.

Is the password matter in this scenario? I will say No as what matters most is your Mnemonic phrase. Besides, it is difficult to forget a password that holds such an amount of BTC if truly it is yours as claimed.

Anything is possible. Maybe he had that wallet for a long time. It's easy to forget when your coins are worth $500 each but much harder when they're $5000 each. Wink

Hate to say it but you can treat it as lost. The only way is if you pick your brain for the typical passwords you like to use. Maybe it's something with your girlfriend or your pet's name. If it's a randomly generated phrase like s1Q2xvy_k! you're fucked.

Be careful with this account. He only has 7 posts. 424 forum activity means he used to have at least 424 posts but somehow he deleted them.

He also shares his email rather than asking for PM's.

Just a warning. Alarm bells are ringing.

You'll never know how you'll get the filthy trojan.

Maybe you are right about the trojan scheme if OP is contacting other user via email and sending some virus under the name of wallet.dat but I wonder how can you say that OP have only 7 posts? because upon checking his/her profile I see that there is 424 posts, see the photos below.

You got me.

I am guilty.

I have all local boards on ignore and then some global forums too. I thought he deleted his posts and the forum  haven't updated his post count but I was wrong. I should reward you for catching my mistake. Here...

first I suggest, if there is written "forgot the password" try to click it, then you reset your password again ... but if there is no writing. You should take a pillow and sleep, and do not think about the carelessness that you have made yourself .. !!

Be careful with this account.

Yes. This is pure cookie cutter scamming. The same thread seems to pop up every few weeks without fail and it's ALWAYS to some external contact source where they no doubt take you out the back and give you a good seeing to.

Something is not right like the other users have said. After reading some theories of what the OP is up to its clear they up to no good. The thing i cant understand is how is the OP going to benefit? It must be some sort of trick. Im so curious to know in what way we will be tricked if we try to "assist" this person?
I want to know what foul treachery is at foot.

I believe that you are not the owner of that wallet, so you don't have to try to recover it. No one here can forget the password of a wallet with more than 150k USD, which is a huge amount of money and the owner needs to store as carefully as possible.

Very suspicious. No details in the OP. Forgot password from a wallet with 18.2 Bitcoin. I'm not familiar with that wallet, Im wondering if he can import his wallet using key phrases.
But, nah no matter how I think, I couldn't believe someone just forgot his password to a very important financial asset. I'm sorry, but I think the OP has a gimmick.

Brute forcing someone else's wallet, maybe? Hmm.

Things like this should be kept safe such as emails, passwords, and important accounts. Maybe you have a lot of accounts in different platform that's why you forgot it, the best solution to avoid this thing is to keep a note with all your accounts in it. Important thing should be a priority not to forget.
Since it's your account, you're also capable of accessing it. Just try to remember you password. If you use same password to some accounts, then you can try it.

The password is irrelevant, only the seed words matter. When you create a wallet, you are supposed to write down a series of words in a piece of paper, you can recover your wallet with that.

It's not irrelevant, wallet file + password allow you to access your coins, so it's a really bad idea to be careless about it. As for seeds, not all wallets have them, Bitcoin Core doesn't use them and will not use them in close future. If we are talking about wallet files from early days, there's almost no chance that those wallets have seeds, so finding or cracking password is the only way to access the coins again.
Which one wallet he use for saving bitcoin balance, how available to recovery their account without know which one exchange or wallet kind for saving his bitcoin assets, maybe he made something joke for interested many people in bitcointalk tread become famous with his topic, I think he has many bitcoin assets in his wallet will know by many people in telegram channel to as for people how to unlock his wallet.
