Answer yourself, are you a short term a long term investors, and how much you like to risk. If you are more like a "calm guy", then buy Bitcoin and Ethereum and forget about them for half a year or even a year. Without any doubts these two top cryptocurrencies would grow in price. But if you like quick (30-60 days period) profit, like to risk and have trading experience - then invest in any altcoin and sell it with first profit that suits you and buy another.

I also agree that OP should buy some cheap altcoins because he only have 1000 dollars for investment. He won't get a full ethereum in this price and also only less than two bnb. Best option is to buy some cheap altcoins like dogecoin and ada.
