It's a waste of time if several countries join forces to stop Bitcoin. Because in my opinion it is impossible for a country to stop Bitcoin, The only way
I can think of to stop Bitcoin is to turn off all electricity around the world. Which is also impossible to do, it means that the conclusion is that nothing
can stop Bitcoin. Instead of getting tired of trying to stop Bitcoin, think more realistically by accepting Bitcoin. Make good use of Bitcoin in order to
get benefits from Bitcoin.

They only have a chance to prohibit the use of bitcoin in the country but the rest they can't do anything. Bitcoin is a technology, you can use it by the internet, as long as they didn't break the internet network in the country then whatever rules they make will be useless.

We can still use VPN or something like that to access our bitcoin or to access our exchange. Like me now, Binance exchange has been banned in my country, I can't access the exchange with the normal network but I use VPN so I can using it freely. This is why, for those country who make a decision to ban bitcoin is a pointless decision.

I get to be thinking what about all the government of the world unite and decide to stop bitcoin and cryptocurrency ?  Grin

I have wondered if this is possible to happen despite bitcoin being decentralized. Within me, I don't think that is no more possible because bitcoin is now unstoppable. Just like water is to the fish, bitcoin is the light of the earth.

What do you say yourself ?

It looks like some governments really believe that they will be able to help cryptocurrencies to be stopped at least by banning them in the country.  Grin  Banning a crypto won't cause it to be destroyed, the system doesn't work like that. You can't stop it as you can't take the control of it.

It would be a real pain to deal with bitcoins in a scenario where all governments together stopped bitcoin. Regulated platforms and sites wouldn't exist anymore, and anonymous ones operating in secret and illegaly would be under constant attack of governments' agencies, similar to online piracy content downloads sites which are often taken down by authorities.
So you could never rely your funds in any sites. A hardware wallet would be a must more than it already is nowadays.

I believe bitcoin's price would be also very negatively impacted by a fall in demand, as many investors would retreat from crypto universe, fearing the punishments by their local governments.

Tell that to China, banning bitcoin usage by the public combined with mass surveillance, Internet censorship, and propaganda, I think that if a government were to do something drastic, I think that they will be able stop bitcoin. I forgot to mention that North Korea is also one of the countries that can stop bitcoin.
The people can still access the Internet but yes you are right, they are heavily monitored, maybe a VPN or a Tor browser and learning how to Jump the Great Firewall of China could help people to access bitcoin, I think that OP has a point that the government can't stop bitcoin's growth, the only time that they can stop the growth is if the people doesn't even know that it exist, never underestimate the spirit of human curiosity and the will to get out of the cage.

Well, that will only be possible with a very decentralized Bitcoin with good & safe ideals/principles the whole world can't find fault in.
One of the strongest point that is currently helping Bitcoin is it being a more moral network/system than fiat currencies system. If you remove the good aspects , I doubt most people will be able to handle the guilt when it's exposed to thorough scrutiny.

They also tried to ban gold at one time. But, meanwhile, gold remains in value. It's too late to ban Bitcoin. Capital control is always doomed to failure. How can you track all computers that miners use? The government simply cannot do so. This is technically impossible. There is no way to prevent new nodes from appearing.
I doubt that all countries together will be able to ban bitcoin on a general level. If one country prohibits, surely the other will permit it. Bitcoin exists outside states and any attempts to control or prohibit it further increase its value proposition.

They could, not can't. But it'd take several Trumps (referencing his outlandishness and singular dedication to get things done if he wanted, not his acumen) to come together to agree to use an enormous amount of resources to take down Bitcoin.

And if they did succeed, Bitcoin would only reorganise (literally and metaphorically) to come back stronger as another iteration.

Come at me, brah.

This isn't big news, it's always been known that you can't truly destroy Bitcoin, because it exists on hard drives of hundreds of thousands of people across the world. But governments can absolutely harm Bitcoin - look at today's adoption, which is actually quite low, then divide it by 100 and remove all the institutional investors and other big players, and you will get what will happen if Bitcoin was outlawed.
Governments don't have to physically destroy every bitcoin. Let's try to imagine what would happen if governments unite and declare cryptocurrency illegal and liquidate all cryptocurrency exchanges and exchanges, and those who use cryptocurrency face fines or jail time.
We can even see this in the example of the SEC lawsuit against Ripple Labs. US cryptocurrency exchanges immediately began to refuse to list ripple, although there are still no restrictions on this coin yet and it is unlikely that they will ever be. So, if cryptocurrency exchanges and cryptocurrency exchangers stop working, stores will stop taking it as payment for goods and services, then what is left for it? Of course, we will be able to send it to one another in different parts of the Earth, but without real application, how much will it cost then?
Therefore, it will be better if the cryptocurrency, as it was conceived, is simply an alternative means of payment for the currently existing payment system.

Cryptocurrencies can only be manipulated not destroyed. You can't stop a currency that nobody has the control of it. Bitcoin and any other cryptos are decentralized and private to ourselves. But as I said, the prices can be easily manipulated as we have an Elon Musk example lately.  Grin

With the huge numbers of Bitcoin supporters out there, it will be a hard time for the government to manipulate people to stop supporting it just to be able to stop Bitcoin's momentum. Each and every country around the world have different type of government which enable people to decide on their own depending on the power they have and the government have to govern them. Bitcoin is a decentralized body not to be compared to centralized institutions manipulated and ruled by the government. Even if the world government will unite, it can still not be able to stop Bitcoin at all cost for it will become unreasonable unless stated and proven that it will just be essential if Bitcoin will be abolished for good sake.

They might not stop it but can bring out policy that will affect it negatively. By declaring it illegal and banning crypto related website and app will have bad effect on the price. However I don't think that will even happen. Bitcoin is not a global threat. They will rather focus on Covid19, terrorism etc
More precisely, governments of countries can limit, prevent, or even erase the existence of bitcoin in various ways, but relations between countries are often strained and sometimes there are conflicting opinions, which makes their cooperation in the prevention of bitcoin impossible, we should feel lucky that bitcoin is centrally located and does not belong to any country. Plus, bitcoin is clearly not the biggest concern for the government, the more important issue is economic control, national development, and the prevention of illegal acts that are soaring.

We can really still say this but the Chinese Government is trying to stop it as we speak or even talk about it. China is scared of being overrun by something they cannot control because it is still basically money but as long as they cannot find a way to keep it under control, users within the Cryptocurrency industry should not be scared of thinking about the sudden stop of using Cryptocurrencies.

I believe that they governments should unite and try to research on how the world can utilize this invention.

the world government can only unite to solve a common issues like the pandemic, global warming, and the likes. bitcoin has gotten to the stage where everyone dont want to miss out even those who neglected earlier. different governments have started seeing a possibility with it and looking forward to leveraging on its technology.

Banning BTC will not help. the application of a crypto ban is unlikely to prevent people from using it. Everything can be taken as a reason for a ban - criminal use or dark network markets. Most likely, however, such a ban would be the best advertisement for the flagship cryptocurrency. A total ban on Bitcoin will do the exact opposite - it will draw more attention to cryptocurrency and encourage people to start using it, as the idea behind BTC is to move a person's money without informing the government or banks.

The only way governments can oppose and crush Bitcoin is to compete with it. Such rivalry may mean that governments will make the use of BTC unnecessary by creating a particular technology or using a reverse approach.

The best way is for governments to re-apply the gold standard, which is no longer followed, and to allow people to have more financial freedom and confidentiality when using their resources.

This is unlikely to be what the leaders of the countries would like to do, which means that Bitcoin is likely to remain relevant.

That is not presumed to happen. Not all governments have come concurrently to agree on Bitcoin. Bitcoin is so famous and its appetite is the highest in the currency world. People will not be able to beat back from it even if they want to. Bitcoin is not yet legitimate in all governments. Less likely in the future. However, the legal countries do not think it will be excluded altogether. That will decide according to the convenience of the state.

It's too late if the government wants to stop Bitcoin, because Bitcoin has been trusted by many large institutions. Moreover, the demand for Bitcoin
this year continues to increase every month, making Bitcoin unstoppable. So it would be a futile action if several governments joined forces to stop
Bitcoin. In my opinion than the government is tired of fighting Bitcoin, why not make peace with Bitcoin by accepting it. That way in my opinion it is
more profitable for both parties.

I do believed that if governments would unite to stop bitcoin well it's too late to implement because bitcoin was already an established cryptocurrency and it already has a lot of investors some were known personality all over the world. Aside from it, the mere fact that bitcoin was decentralize make it more unique where the government has no control over it in short bitcoin has its own rules and regulations which the government has no power on it.

It is decentralized.
Even if all the governments team up together, they can't.
The least that they can only do to "indirectly" stop Bitcoin is to block all the trading sites to their own country, by imposing a law to every existing ISPs out there.
Still the coins that people hold are still in the blockchain and they can't have any absolute control to that.
How can they even gain control if themselves even hold one? Cheesy

All the governments in the world cannot shut down the Bitcoin blockchain completely, but they can crash the Bitcoin price to really low levels and the reduce the amount of Bitcoin users. Most of the "average Joe" Bitcoin users will run away from Bitcoin,as soon as they realize that using BTC is illegal.
Making BTC illegal will turn Bitcoin into a 100% darkweb currency, which is being used by a bunch of hackers and criminals.
Anyway,I think that the blockchain can survive a global ban.
