There are many people who retire early or leave their jobs because they are not profitable after a long time. Never mind investing, the salary they get is really below the standard monthly needs. If they have enough budget to start their own business, then they can quit their jobs which in reality only take up a lot of time and life and I think that makes sense.

Besides us loving the job, basically we need to fulfill our living needs. Many of these types of jobs are really time consuming and they cannot have a side job. Even if they force themselves to have a side job, in the end they have to sacrifice many things, including lack of adequate sleep and their health. Having a stable job that can guarantee prosperity is something to dream of, so there's nothing wrong with retiring early and developing another business.

It's not that I want to make a competition between the two threads, far from it, but I have long thought that even if the time comes when I accumulate so much wealth that I can retire, even before the ordinary retirement age, I don't plan to do so. I will first quote part of what I said in that thread:

I said something very similar to this in that thread you quoted.
I have always believed that early retirement is an overrated concept. How many people who worked for their money decide to retire early when they get to a certain stage of financial accumulation? Most people I've seen who retire early are born into wealth. People who keep getting money whether they work a day in their life or not.
As I said in the thread, even if I have a billion dollars today, I won't stop working because I would always want that money to keep growing.
With money like that there are many investments and businesses I can do that will not require too much of my time and also allow me to travel around the world like someone who is retired.

I'd retire in some other activities that I might be used to doing it. But I'll still find a way to make myself busy and find more purpose for my living. It's hard to get out of something that I've been used to do. I'll still do little jobs that are easy for me so still continue having cash flow and source of income. That's also what I've learned from the elders that I know, they've said to keep on doing what you are doing but with little efforts only as we grow older.

If you were retired, would you mind very much doing a job like participating in a paid signature campaign of the forum? I wouldn't, and even less if it's one of those that doesn't have a weekly minimum.

What about you guys?

Retirement can happen anywhere but mostly in the government sectors, you can as well find it in the private sector but it's kind of rare nevertheless the nature of retirement differs and with that you can decide to retire and still handle your personal business so if you must have accumulated much wealth you can decide to retire but handling your own business I think there's no need for that.

There is something we do say in my country, that if you sit idle for too long, chances are pretty high you will fall sick, so just like you, i do not have any plans of retiring and watching TV all day long.

Of course there comes an age you can no longer do some physical activities, at that age i plan to engage myself in activities that require zero physical strength, the goal at that time might not be to make so much money from it, but that way i keep my mind busy and i don't stay idle.

i don’t know mate that’s still a responsibility and a lot of campaigns have requirements you have to meet which could bring you pressure i would rather spend time on the forum on my own time and willingness and not because i was obligated to

plus some people have a harder time processing things and just mentally being sharp as they get older many people are scared of retirement but to me it’s just a chance to do the things i never got to do before but with less pressure more time and hopefully more resources by that time

My kind of retirement will be stop doing the job that's bringing more money and start doing something which will just let me live as I want to be. Let's say I am insanely rich and running a production company of corn related products, once I feel I made enough I might choose to retire from my position and just getting the profits alone and start doing corn farming on my own far from the city and in a peaceful place with only people I want in my life. It's kind of dramatic but it can be lovely as long as I feel it's great.

No, I can't stop working and moving completely after I retire. I don't work on just one job with the concern of making money.
There are so many skills to learn that I can spend time on the ones that interest me and maybe I can turn them into money again, but I'm retired after all, I don't have to worry about turning them into money.
So I would just try to enjoy and enjoy the moment.
I would have the opportunity to talk to and meet more people because then I could use the time as I wanted. I would constantly plan trips for this.

What about you guys?

I also think like that, it seems like I won't take time to retire. as long as I'm still able to live and be healthy, I think I'll take any opportunity in my life. my life is too wasted if I only think like people who have early retirement thoughts, okay it's their right to think like that and there's nothing wrong with it, but I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, that means I have to work harder and as much as possible continue to make money to make my life much better and also my family.

Everyone must have goals in life. Financial freedom in a sense you don't have to work anymore is only worthful if you have another plans in mind on how you can spend your time in a healthy and productive way for yourself and for those around you. Personally, I wouldn't work in the same proportion I do nowadays, but I would keep some labor activity going on. Of course I would focus my time in recreational activities I have always dreamed about executing, although never had the opportunity to do so.

Work would stay in second plan. At same time, I think it's interesting to continue working in a reduced scale, because it also helps on the maintenance of your cognitive activity. By working, you are feeding your brain and giving it function, so it's less likely you are going to have health issues later related to this area of your organism.

alot of people think retirement is about sitting in a rocking chair, watching re-runs of tv shows on tv all day, everyday
..but thats not retirement, thats giving up
yes when your 65+ thats probably all your able to physically do without having a heart attack, but the point of retiring early is to free yourself before age/bad health gets to you

retirement is freedom of choice, freedom from dependency whilst your still young enough to enjoy freedoms

even if you still want to work, retiring early means you can fund your life through retirement plans, and then start a business without needing to remove business revenue as a salary, but instead reinvest it into growing the business and securing a better future, whilst being involved as much or as little as you want in running the business or delegating it out to someone that can and wants to manage the day to day. freeing you to have options/choices

This thread is in contrast to the following one:

Financial Independence Retire Early [F.I.R.E]

It's not that I want to make a competition between the two threads, far from it, but I have long thought that even if the time comes when I accumulate so much wealth that I can retire, even before the ordinary retirement age, I don't plan to do so. I will first quote part of what I said in that thread:

I am not attracted to this movement, and in 5 to 10 years at the most I will be able to quit my job, or spend a year traveling around the world if I want to. Some FIRE stories are of a sub-human stinginess to reach the goal of financial freedom, and then when they get it they still find it hard to spend the money. Also, having no obligations, lots of free time and little to do ends up with some people dying from overdoses or things like that. Those who don't take that route end up going back to work, but in something that they want, that motivates them and being their own boss. Marc Cuban would be an example.

I would also like to say that I'm not pretending this is an idea that I invented. I'm sure I've heard it from several public figures, one of whom was Dave Ramsey.

If you were retired, would you mind very much doing a job like participating in a paid signature campaign of the forum? I wouldn't, and even less if it's one of those that doesn't have a weekly minimum.

If we think about physical jobs and people going through hardships to do them, like miners during the industrial revolution, then we will surely want to retire as soon as possible. But today there are many jobs that can be done with a computer. And if you have accumulated enough money to retire, you can also make a small investment to start a project that motivates you. That is why I say that I plan, one way or another, never to retire, at least as long as my cognitive abilities allow me to do so.

What about you guys?

It seems to me that your stance is a little unclear, but I agree with much of what you say. The reality is most of the world is conditioned to the idea that we need to work for 50 years and when you do something for such a long time it is hard to break free of that cycle, but it does not have to be that way. Many people are also a little wasteful in their spending habits, which means that they perpetuate this cycle for longer than necessary and simply do not have the mentality to retire early, even if they had the financial means. You can live comfortably and spend wisely without being overly frugal. I too would pick up a hobby, which might also be financially rewarding, as you will need something to keep you occupied - but it's the fact that you control your destiny and have relative freedom that is the biggest benefit of being financially independent.

What about you guys?

I'd say I agree with this, and I have always thought about what I might do after I lose my ability to continue doing a full-time physical day job because there can always be options for you about what you want to do until you are not able to do them anymore. As long as you are healthy, both mentally and physically, and have the necessary resources, you can continue doing what you have always wanted to do or liked doing.

It happens with a lot of people who can't get into professions that they have always wanted to do but instead keep doing something else only for the sake of pushing life ahead and dealing with finances so that they don't face hardships. Once you retire from all those, you can start doing what you have always wanted to do.

So, just like you, I might as well keep doing something after I retire from the responsibilities. It can be anything, I haven't planned it yet, but I'm sure I can find something of my interest and will do it if I have the resources for it.

Humans are not the same as they think differently.

There is a man that I know that owns a University. The man is 95 years old now and he is still working. He did not quite because he loves what he is doing.

I know a man that has a job. When he become older. He let his children to run his company. Not that he will just give to company to his children but it would have started from the learning to professional stage before given them such. But he is still officially the owner of the company.

You will see some people that will leave some of his business for children and only continue to manage some.

All depends on the nature of the job.

I know someone that has a business but later lend his company to another company because he has gotten old already. The company has an amount of money they will pay him annually.

If you check different people life as they grow old, you will noticed how they may have different opinion.

What you call what you live sometimes might be draining some energies from you. You will noticed that you love it but as someone grow old, the doctor can tell the person to just be resting and not be working as he is doing at the moment. So very possible that the person's health may let the person just quit and be resting instead of working.

As for me I think there should be a resting time during old age but I believe some people will not accept this for themselves which I think is not also wrong.

I can see an argument for both approaches:

Retire early or keep working post retirement age.

Personally I am semi retired pre retirement age and I'm very busy
with my own agenda and would advocate for doing so if you can.

Im terms of keeping working, I can see the merits of that particularly if
you enjoy your work and have good colleagues.

It might also be nice to do some charity work to benefit others.

I heard also of people who worked all their lives and were very dedicated
probably too mich and after retirement the were dead within 2 years.
I loke to think I enjoyed a work free life before I die.

What about you guys?

The thing is, human body is not meant to stay idle and so there should be some sort of activity that we should keep doing throughout life to stay healthy.
Coming to retirement, there's no harm in retiring early but on the other hand, there should be something we should keep doing to stay healthy.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a paid job but can be some sport as well. That's my perspective on retirement.

Just like many people said, job isn't your career, but job help you to reach your career. It could be your job has a correlation with the career you want to pursue, or the job is only to be a source of income for you to start your career.

If work can be done more relaxed using a computer for example, then making a retirement decision is not necessary because for everyday life we need activities so that we are not bored in living life. For physical work as you said it might be true, it is better to take the opportunity to retire when we are no longer productive but we can continue working at home using a computer in a small investment process, in that way our retirement will be much more productive and can enjoy a much more relaxed and light life at home.
I don't see it's relax to work using computer, you're need to look at the screen for many hours which harm your eyes, harm your posture, lack of physical exercise, harm your health and many more. It's really exhausting if you only work in front of computer, people might see it's fun and easy, but they haven't try it at least a year.

There is even nothing wrong if people try to participate in paid signature campaigns on forums while retired because this can provide additional income for themselves. If you can make money I think there is nothing wrong with taking the opportunity to enjoy a much more relaxed life.

My concept of retirement for me is the ability to have enough funds that you don't have to work hard to survive. It is living a life in which you can determine how you want to spend your day without the pressure to perform a paid task to survive. For me, retirement is not becoming redundant, and spending all the time on fun, the brain needs to keep working. It could be a time to focus on things that give me joy and not necessarily money. It could be starting a business, working online, or volunteering. But the bottom line is that the reason for working at that time would not be fo money to survive but for fulfillment.

If you were retired, would you mind very much doing a job like participating in a paid signature campaign of the forum? I wouldn't, and even less if it's one of those that doesn't have a weekly minimum.
Bitcointalk has become part of my life. I don't think I will ever leave the forum except if something happens in the future. I want to enjoy my retirement age that's why I will avoid any job that burdens me. But if the signature campaign has no minimum quota, that's perfect. At least it will be a means of acquiring Bitcoin through the DCA plan.

Men will never able to retire, while women have a chance.

When men have many business, they have to think about the decision they would made, any fatal decision comes from the CEO. If they only have enough money to cover annual spending, it doesn't enough because wife always force their husband to generate more money, women tend to increase their lifestyle.

Sometimes, working until die doesn't sound bad.
