So is it now safe to stake once again?
Yes, just:
1) download the new wallet
2) & update your config file as per page 1 of this threat.
3) Delete all your old files, except wallet.dat
4) Run "repairwallet" in Help/debug window/console
5) unlock wallet
6) Party!

here reports was that sync was way faster now. but thats because server just rebooted i guess.
